Have You Bought Any Pregnancy/Baby Things Yet?

I've been pinning nursery stuff for weeks now, but I definitely haven't considered actually buying anything yet.  I finally pulled the trigger on buying a great groupon for prenatal yoga classes.  I don't know why it was so hard for me, it was only $25.  Sometimes I still feel like I'm not really pregnant yet and shouldn't act like I am!  Maybe it's because I don't have morning sickness or because I haven't seen my doctor yet, I don't know.

So I'm going to put it out there to you ladies... anyone bought anything pregnancy/baby related yet?  If yes, what? If no, why not?  Just curious if I'm the only weirdo out there about these things!

Re: Have You Bought Any Pregnancy/Baby Things Yet?

  • I am in the same boat! I don't want to buy anything yet because it doesn't feel real yet. And no doctor visit yet tops that feeling off. However, I did buy a "my first teddy" yesterday. That's the first and only thing I've gotten so far and it felt pretty good to buy. I wanted to get something that I would be able to keep regardless of the outcome since this is our first pregnancy.

  • With my first, we didn't buy anything for weeks...I felt like I would "jinx" myself. This time, we actually bought a crib/changer a couple of days ago. I found it on a super cheap clearance, and since we wont be able to reuse our old crib (my son is still using it as a toddler bed), anything to save money! However, it is still in the box...and will be for quite a long time :)

  • I dealt with 2 years of infertility, so sometime last year I went crazy and bought a crib.... yes. a crib (it was a really good deal)... Its been sitting in my spare room / baby room for almost a year now (May will be a year)... but I finally got my first BFP a week or two ago... sooo.... yeah. My hubby thought i was crazy last year when  I brought that thing home. :)

Since my BFP I have not bought anything but I have a friend who sent me a few books, bibs, and a teddy bear.

  • I bought baby's first book :) and a year and a half ago when we first started TTC we bought a pair of baby ninja turtle socks from target on clearance hehe

  • I haven't bought anything yet but my youngest is two. So even though she is in a big girl bed and never uses the crib I kept it set up this whole time in hopes of having another baby. I also saved all of my children's baby clothes and toys so we are ready! Hand me downs.

  • @Koalamomma3That's a really sweet move by your hubby.

The only thing I've bought so far is a maternity top which was on sale 4 months ago.  Nothing since my BFP, but I'm sure it won't take me long to start.  My daughter is still in her crib and it switches to toddler bed, then full bed, so I guess I'll be getting a new set for the baby. I'll probably start with smaller purchases first though.  I bought a baby shower present for a friend last night and it got me back in the baby stuff mode.  Excited!

  • Not yet  but sometimes it's hard ! I still have a lot of my kids clothes so I won't need too much bit for the things I do need it's very tempting  to go pick up a few things!
I turn into a squealing  little girl when I see how tiny newborn socks are too! It's going to be a very long 9 months for my hubby....
  • I have a few basic handmedowns from DD (she's 6), although I just saved like white onesies and bibs. We have a crib from her, but we did buy a 4 drawer chest when we were at Ikea last weekend. It's still in the box, but Ikea is about an hour away for us so we snatched it up while it was on sale and we were there.

I just bought a few tunic-type shirts for myself. I'm trying not to buy "maternity" shirts. I didn't with DD and was able to wear them for quite a while after she was born without still looking pregnant, so we'll see how that goes this time. DD was a June baby though so I didn't buy many summer clothes, which I'll obviously need now. I'm hoping to just get away with dresses for work!

It's getting hard, though. Shopping for baby is so much fun!

  • We haven't done any shopping yet either, the only thing we bought is a shirt for DH that says "She's eating for two, I'm drinking for three" for him to open up at his birthday in front of our family to reveal it to just them. I refuse to buy any baby/maternity things until after the first appointment. It still doesn't feel real because the symptoms come and go (except fatigue that is always there) and I don't want to "jinx" myself. I feel like after the first appointment (if all goes well FX!!) we will start buying stuff over time. That has not stopped me from pinning stuff on Pinterest though! To a secret board of course so no one else see's that I am cracking out on baby stuff! I guess it just depends on how you feel. This is our first pregnancy so I am just trying to take it as it comes. The only thing baby related I started doing is taking weekly pictures of my stomach, I want to have those no matter what.

  • I kept everything from DS, so I think all we will need is a new crib and maybe clothes if we find out it's a girl. Some of my maternity clothes got pretty ratty so I'll have comb through my closet in a little while.

I did buy a new wrap (for babywearing). Oops.

  • I haven't bought anything yet. Waiting for an ultrasound first! Then I'm buying alllll the baby things haha
  • I bought a onesie a few months ago for when we announce on FB that says "ich bin ein Berliner". All so I can make the joke that I'm pregnant with a doughnut. I have no shame.

  • Nothing really for the baby in particular, other than some things I picked up through the years "for a kid if we ever have one." I just put in an order for belly balm, preggie pop drops, vomit bags, and a belly band for me. I never got around to getting those things for my last (failed) pregnancy, but my appointment isn't for another month, and I need to take care of me.

  • I already grabbed a snoogle pillow, maternity clothes, and belly butter for myself. I found Aiden & andis (sp) swaddling blankets for half off unopened so I jumped on that as well as a winter bunting for 75% off. If it's on sale, necessary, and gender neutral I'm buying it lol.
  • Nope, I've got most of what we need in storage. When I start showing I'll buy some maternity pants since I'm a different starting size than last time. I'm sure down the road when we know the sex I'll grab some clothes (if a girl) and start thinking of a nursery. I've got 8 or so months to get my shit together, I'm not in any rush.

  • Target had a huge and awesome baby clearance a few weeks ago so I git a while bunch of stuff. At 70% off I don't even feel bad about it. I really want to buy a crib but I'm trying to push my crazy aside.

  • I haven't bought anything...i'm too scared to!
  • I bought some maternity pants last night because I knew being plus size, I would have to order online and didn't want to be stuck when I need them. I bought more than I need, and will return what doesn't work.

As far as for baby, I bought a Ravens onesie to announce to H, but that's it so far. We will probably wait to do much shopping until after the first appointment on 3/2.
  • Burt's Bees Belly Butter. A friend suggested I start moisturizing now in a attempt to combat stretch marks. Broke the good news to my husband with " Your Baby's First Word Will Be DADA." I'm pretty sure my parents have started buying things already (this will be their first grand child). I'm waiting for the first ultrasound before picking up anything else.
  • Nothing yet. Its too early for me.

@GingerGril : Stretchmarks are genetic. You can't prevent them, but the belly butter is ok. For some reason later it smelled really weird during the summer (sweat?) and eventually the pumpkin seed extract made me break out in hives. I switched to coconut oil and never had a problem. Just an FYI.

  • I purchased a couple of onesies at Target. A pack of 3 for $9!!! So expensive!! :s  Experienced mommies: Are they cheaper elsewhere???

They are pricey. I usually get the Babies R Us brand and use coupons.
  • I bought our DS a "Big Brother" shirt to wear around the grandparents when we tell them. I have had SO many urges to buy some baby Nikes or Converse shoes but am really trying to hold it back until I have my first ultrasound appointment next month. But I am sure I will buy something before then because I cannot contain myself much longer.

I haven't bought anything yet, just pinning on Pinterest. I'm still in the "I don't want to jinx myself" stage.

  • Thanks for all of the feedback ladies! Good to know I'm not the only one afraid of "jinxing" my pregnancy, which sounds pretty pathetic when I think about it.  I think that's the only thing I'll be buying until my first doctor's appointment and u/s on the 1st.  A little over two weeks ahh I'm so excited and nervous!  After that if everything is ok, I might go a littl crazy with buying pregnancy/baby stuff!

That actually sounds pretty reasonable to me. Especially since some babies stay in a size for a month or two at most. But if you plan on having more than one, you'll use them enough.

  • I am a flea market freak. I love finding good deals. I came across a stand that had BRAND NEW baby clothes with the tags still on for only a buck or less. I got a bunch of white long sleeve onesies with the mitts on them and a couple of gender neutral outfits. I even found some motherhood maternity pants and shorts with the tags still on for a buck.

Old navy. I like the idea that they're number sizes, not s m l xl, etc. I use their pants almost exclusively, so I'm hoping they work for this too!
  • I have purchased a bella band. I wasn't sure if it would be worth the price but I actually think I will get a lot of use out of it.
I have also purchased some maternity clothes online from Old Navy and Gap. They do free returns and there was a sale so I thought why not. One of the dresses looks so big but I have a feeling my opinion will soon change, haha.

  • I caved and bought a little heart and arrow one-piece at old navy because it was on sale for like $3. Other than that, I spend too much money on DS... so I'm going to have to learn how to shop for both eventually. Nothing will happen until at least our first US, if not when we find out the sex of Number Two.

  • I have a house full of baby crap. We don't need a thing!
  • I have considered getting some maternity clothes because of how awful the bloat has been, but I am a little afraid to get excited and purchase anything yet since I'm only six weeks along. We do have an ultrasound on Friday - maybe after then I'll even allow myself to start pinning more baby things for the potential nursery. I just feel too nervous to do anything really expensive before the first trimester is over. DH also says we should probably wait and get a better idea of what our budget is later.
