Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Diapers - How many of each size to register for?

Hello from 2nd tri.  I am starting my registering....and have a question for all of you.  How long was your baby in each size, and how many do you think I will roughly need (obviously this is a guess)?  I am going to go with Pampers, starting with the Swaddlers. I really just want to register for the diapers I will need the most of.  Also, how long should I stick with Swaddlers...then go to, what?  Cruisers?  I realize it varies some baby to baby, but I just want to get an idea.

TIA!!

Re: Diapers - How many of each size to register for?

  • We used large 2 packs of swaddlers for newborns (unnecessary--size 1 would have been fine). At first you go through 8-10 diapers/day. Then I didn't use Pampers--we switched to 7th Generation starting at size 1 but probably the same general sizing. Size 1 lasted about 2-3 months times about 8 diapers a day. Then Size 2 lasted another 3 months times 6-8 a day. We've just hit size 3 in the 6th month. Good luck on your 3rd tri and enjoy the shower!

  • I didn't register for diapers, but I did get a diaper cake of size ones. ?The diaper cake was Huggies, but I didn't really like them, so we have used Pampers Swaddlers since the beginning.

I bought a pack of Pampers Swaddlers NB and a pack of size ones. Lily was 9 lbs when she was born, so she skipped the NB size entirely. ?I really wish I hadn't opened the bag, because I was unable to return them.?

Lily was in size ones for about 6 weeks, size twos until around 4 months and is currently in size 2-3. ?After that, we have to go up to size 3 which is Cruisers. ?

?I personally wouldn't stock up too much yet as you never know what your babe is going to wear and for how long.?

  • DD was swimming in size 1's - which is what the hospital provided - 6 pounds 15 ounces when she was bprn.

We had a case of newborns
    2 cases of size 1's
    2 cases of size 2's

That would be a great start!

  • do not register for diapers--it's unnecessary;  people will buy them for you regardless;  I think DD was 3 mos old before I had to buy any myself.

edit re:  PP advising against NB size:  DD was 6.6 lbs when she was born, under 6 when we left the hosptial;  she was in NB diapers for quite a while (like over a month);  each baby is different and you just wont know until your DC arrives

  • Don't register for diapers. My baby was 9lb and only ever wore size 1. We like Luvs the best.

Ditto. No matter what sizes you may or may not get, it'll all get used. K was 8lbs even at birth and she was in NB for about 2 weeks. 1-96ct case of Swaddlers, plus the small packs we got from the hospital was enough.?

  • I wouldn't assume people will buy diapers for you...and if you register you get to tell them what brand you prefer.  We cloth diaper now, but used Pampers Swaddlers at the very beginning.  I can't tell you how many to register for, but I can suggest skipping newborn size and asking for some size 1 and 2 diapers.  Have fun!

  • I did not register for any.  I think I bought a pack of newborns and a pack of size 1 before he was born but that was it. I didn't want to have too many diapers and then he not fit into them...like newborns.  I also didn't want to have too many in general, then outgrow them and have no use for them. GL

  • We didn't register for diapers but ended up getting a lot at my shower anyway.

Like 1 of the PPs, DD was 9lb and never wore NB diapers.  They put her in size 1 at the hospital.  I had bought and opened a package of NB diapers that were way too tight for her.  Luckily my SIL had a baby 8 days later that was just under 7lb so she was able to use them.

  • We registered for 1 case of NB and 1 case of size 1.  I would caution from registering for too many.  You never know what brand and/or size is going to work.  DD was 6lbs 11oz at birth and we still seemed to zoom through NB and Size 1.

  • Don't have your heart set on a particular kind of diaper because each baby is different and some work better than others.

that being said- i would totally skip registering for diapers.

  • Thanks everyone.  For those who said that I will receive diapers regardless...that isn't always the case.  My sister and my cousin both have had baby showers in the past.  My sister didn't receive one diaper (a very large shower of about 50 people I might add).  My cousin received one small package, also a decent size shower, of probably about 30 people.  They got a lot of clothes...and blankets.

But thank you everyone, you have all been a great! :)  I will register for a case of each size.
