Randoms

I figured I would make a Randoms thread because making one for my questions seems a little dumb.

DH and I are considering going to a 3D/4D ultrasound place for our gender determination. They will do it between 15-20 weeks. I'll be 15 weeks in 2 weeks. My question is has anyone gotten an early gender determination and how accurate is it that early on? My OB won't schedule my anatomy scan until I'm right at 20 weeks and I'm being an impatient brat.

Re: Randoms

  • I've done it with both my boys and they new exactly the sex. It's fun to do and something to remember. We plan on doing it with this little one too

  • @Duffgurl how far along were you?
  • @Lynnlove28 I was 15 weeks with both. Also just make sure you drink lots of water. Of course you should already be doing so. Just with the more water intake the clearer you will be able to see your little one.

  • At my last appointment at 12w6d, I asked my doctor what he thinks about those boutique places and told him we were very impatient/anxious to find out the sex. Since he wants to see me once more before my 20 week u/s, he said make your appointment for a Tuesday, the tech is usually not busy that day and we'll see if she'll just take a peek.. I'll be 16 weeks.. He totally made my day and saved me $100!
  • I also did it for my last pregnancy at 16 weeks and they were 100% sure of the baby being a boy (he is!). We're going this time in a week and a half at 15 weeks and I'll trust it if they say boy, but I'll be a bit more hesitant if they say girl... I feel like there's very rarely a false "it's a boy", but with girls it's a bit more iffy, especially early on.

  • Cool! I'll probably schedule one in two or three weeks. Aside from that I'm currently listening to my 15 month old cry in her crib. We are trying to change her sleep associations to putting herself to sleep instead of being rocked. Last night was my last straw, I put her to bed at 9:30 and she was up and down until 2:30 at which point we just let her sleep with us. She sounds like she's trying to give it up but won't fully. FX for a better night!
  • @Lynnlove28 sleep training is so hard, but so worth it! We have had DS on a nighttime routine from pretty early on (he's 22 months), and now he actually loves going to his crib, he'll ask me for "night night" right around 7:00/7:30 most nights. It gives DH and I some time to be together which has been amazing for our marriage.

I totally get it's not for everyone, and every kid is different but for me and DS it has been one of the best decisions so far.

@Bookhousegirl we had her on a great schedule but then a few weeks ago I resigned from my job and went back to staying at home with her so it threw our routine off. She started needing to be rocked to sleep again and waking up 3-4 times at night. I thought it might have just been a phase and she would work herself out of it, as she's done a few times before, but this past week its gradually gotten worse so we knew it was time to re-train.

She cried about 25 mins and finally gave up so hopefully she won't have any night wakes.

Edited because I can't word right now
  • I only use the app on an iPhone. Is there a way to search?  I can't seem to figure it out
  • @Samm116 go to the very bottom when you're in the group and scrolling through threads, there is a search box!
  • I really want donuts but I don't want to drive. We are in the middle of a winter storm warning and the roads are crap!
  • @texasmama2014 thank you!  Never knew it was there and it's pretty noticeable.
  • Two pregnant women I know went to the hospital within the past 48 hours, and were diagnosed with placenta previa. I know it's fairly common and isn't necessarily a huge deal, but it freaked me out nonetheless. Yesterday I had lower back pain most of the days, and I was terrified it was going to turn into cramping/bleeding. Even though I knew it was probably nothing, I couldn't relax. At least I have an appointment in 6 days where we'll get to hear "bloob's" heartbeat. That should help me calm down for about 10 minutes!

  • So far I haven't gained but maybe a pound or 2 even though I went from dieting to not really eating healthy at all. Over the past 2 weeks (14 & 15) I cut back on the candy and eating out but I have suddenly gained like 4 pounds!? I am a little worried because I was obese before bfp and really don't want to gain too much weight. Any ideas why I would start to gain weight all at once? It's been like a pound every day or two

  • @Car0liiine could it be water weight? I know my weight varies by a few pounds depending on how much water I drink. It could be when you weigh too like if you just ate or at night.
  • @Car0liiine I fell into the obese category when I got pregnant too. I'd second what PP said about water weight and also what time you weigh yourself. My doctor wants me to monitor my weight gain, so I always weigh myself first thing in the morning. I do fluctuate a few pounds up or down during the week depending on what I ate or if I drank enough water the previous day. I'm 15 weeks as well and though I originally lost weighed, have gained a few of those pounds back.
  • @Car0liiine Try not to beat yourself up too much! You are growing a human -- not only does the baby have some weight to it (albeit not much at this point), the amniotic fluid and placenta have weight to them too. 4 pounds at this point isn't bad at all -- I think I've already gained 10! Don't be concerned unless your doctor is.

  • Thanks y'all. I weigh in the mornings and I do usually fluctuate by a couple pounds throughout the week. It might be water weight as I have just now started having the increased thirst and increased urinary frequency. I'll keep an eye on it and talk to the np at my appointment next week.

  • For sure, bloating has a lot to do with your weight fluctuations esp. first trimester! I woke up one morning at 15 wks and realized my belly wasn't as big as it was when I was 13 wks. Idk if bloating has one trending direction but I feel like I'm bloating less as weeks go by. My bump is growing but it's really firm compared to my bloat belly couple of weeks ago! FTM so all of this is pretty fascinating.
  • Just have to take a second to complain about my in laws. They are TOTALLY accusing like this is their baby and now me and DH. It's quite annoying and I get it that they are going to be grandparents for the first time, but my god. Shut up and leave me alone. I'm due 8/10 and FIL'S birthday is 8/15. Every single time I see them, they bring up how this will be his birthday baby. No. Please let me go into labor before that date!!! I want my baby to have its own identity and not be associated with Grandpa for the rest of its life. Also, they are already talking about how the baby will be staying with them all the time, but my MIL smokes like a chimney (in the house) and secondhand smoke is really freaking me out right now. Is it bad if I tell her that 1. She can't hold the baby unless she washes her hands. 2. Ask her to not smoke in her own home if the baby is there? I feel like a bitch for feeling that way, but I'm just really concerned right now. Rant over.
  • I cannot understand in-laws feeling so overly entitled just because they're IN LAWS. Ugh! My SIL told me that the baby I am carrying is 25% her mom's. I wanted to fking slap her in the face. How dare she think it that way? How some in-laws feel so entitled and so possessive is beyond me. This isn't anyone's child but ours (me & DH). MIL is mentally unstable so we do not plan on having her in our lives esp. when the baby arrives.

In other random news, I am eating overly ripen mango right now but for some reason, it tastes like semen...
  • My MIL constantly would say "how's my baby doing", and always refer to him as "my little boy" with DS and it started driving me nuts! She doesn't do it now that he's older but I'm dreading that whole process again. She also consistently wants him for a weekend and her condo reeks of smoke. When he has stayed there all of his stuff stinks when he comes back. She claims she doesn't smoke when he's there but the smell is in the walls and carpet so it still transfers to him. We now only let him go for short periods of time and if she wants him overnight she can come to us and we'll take the opportunity to go away for a couple of nights.

  • @alyssajrob22 I have a few family members that smoke inside and I let them know a few hours in advance that we will be visiting and if they want to see the baby they need to not smoke inside. All of them are very good about it ( we have a 10 month old). We have one friend that doesn't seem to care so if she wants to visit she comes to our house. I am not ashamed to talk to people about the smoking thing to keep my kiddos healthy. It sometimes feels awkward depending on who it is because I am not sure how they will react but so far people have been very respectful.
  • You know, sometimes I complain that it seems like my in-laws don't care too much about DH or me, but I think I'd prefer that to overbearing in laws...

    Random/please ease my mind?

I've had some lower back pain lately and I can't help worrying that it means something is wrong. I've had no abdominal cramping, and no bleeding. Is it normal to have some mild lower back pain this early (I'm 15 weeks today), or should I call my Dr.?

  • I bought some pregnancy jeans over the weekend (the kind with the elastic panels at the sides) and wore them for the first time today for work (today's my first chance to wear them since it's casual Friday). The pants fit fine in the store and at home this morning, but I realized as soon as I started walking from my car to the office that they are way too big! They totally fall down when I walk. This is really disrupting my day because I seriously have a hard time going anywhere. I have to stop periodically to hike them up. And of course I wore a bright red thong today, of all days. I might have to run out on my lunch and pick up a cheap belt somewhere.

My coworker is laughing at me and telling me that I'm not pregnant enough for these jeans. But my regular ones are uncomfortable and the belly band is kind of a hassle!  Boo.
  • @Snaps816 you'll love that extra space in a couple of months, so I say hang on to them. I have to consistently hike up most of my maternity pants at this point but that got better once I had a real belly last time, and it's worth not having my pant buttons digging into my waist all day!

I'm a FTM, so don't know for sure, but I'm also 15 weeks and one of the emails I get about baby's development (maybe it was babycenter? Maybe it was on an app?) said today that back pain is pretty common at this stage as the baby gets bigger. So, I think it is normal.  But, if you're worried, call the doc!

  • @Snaps816 that's the only thing that has kept me from purchasing maternity jeans yet. That drove me crazy last time because they didn't quite fit in my thighs until my stomach got bigger, if that makes sense. I'm about to be forced into maternity pants, my hair bow around the button trick isn't working in some of my pants anymore.

Yeah, I definitely can't wear these now. The tricky thing is, they are a skinny style, so they are snug around the ankles/calves (I think that's part of why they keep getting tugged down). So I have a feeling once I start gaining some all-over weight, they won't fit my legs anymore. I might have wasted $35 on these.

Your uterus is growing and your organs are being reorganized, probably normal!! I get occasional cramp like twinges and soreness. Your body is doing miraculous things that it had never done before!
  • So I found out today that my OB is pregnant and due with twins at the end of July. I totally wasn't expecting it! I'm happy for her but need to process that I'll need to switch doctors at the end of June to another in the practice. I really like my doctor so I'm bummed about not having her for the whole time. The upside is she'll probably be going through similar changes.

  • DD had a slight cold earlier this week with just a sore throat but she passed it on to me and of course I have a full blown head cold. I just want to take a deep breath without having a coughing fit!
  • My maternity pants are comfier than my maternity jeans. This really irks me a lot. Guess I'll just have to go shopping again. Darn.
  • My MIL constantly would say "how's my baby doing", and always refer to him as "my little boy" with DS and it started driving me nuts! She doesn't do it now that he's older but I'm dreading that whole process again.
My mom did this all the friggin time with DS. Anytime she asked how her baby was I'd respond with how I'm doing. Then I'd say "and MY baby is doing well, thanks!"
  • Today is DS's 2nd birthday. DH and I aren't fans of the Valentines Day trendiness, so we are super excited that we have a built-in excuse not to go out or participate in couples' events.

As far as gifts go, I gave DH a child. I win forever!
  • Ugh, I had a terrible dream last night in which I got a call from my OB basically telling me the results from my anatomy scan were not good, and I needed to come in ASAP - but they wouldn't give me any more info than that. I couldn't go in until at least the next day and I just sat up in my bed, sobbing. I still can't shake the sadness from that horrible dream :-(
