I think changing tables are unnecessary (not a changing pad, but an actual changing table) and my family doesn't get it. I don't want a piece of furniture that I will use for such a short amount of time! Same goes for a bassinet!!
Maybe this should be saved for FFFC, but it's probably pretty applicable to UO.
I thought the best part of the Super Bowl Halftime Show was when Coldplay performed. Bruno Mars was pretty good, but I didn't care for Beyoncé's performance - just not my style.

My apparently UO: I don't think kids should be sent to school/preschool sick. It's pretty rare for kids to be sent in can't-get-out-of-bed sick, but they come in just sick enough to spread germs and make everyone else sick all the time. I know it sucks to stay home with your kid who seems fine except they're coughing and have a runny nose, but that kid is wiping their snot all over everything at school and as a result I get sick. And that sucks.

If that's the case, my kid would never be in school or daycare. She literally has a runny nose 90% of the winter.
My UO, I hate holiday parties at my kids schools and daycare. I am not creative and I never remember until the last minute and I always feel out done by the other moms when my kids come home with their Valentines (or holiday gifts, etc from school).
I have yet to figure out what I am going to send with my DS tomorrow.
@oandmplus1 I hear you. My theory is that if we let kids stay home a little longer when the colds start in early winter we might break the cycle of us all being sick for months on end. It is a lot harder to be a teacher when most of the class and all of the teachers have a cold.

Totally see your point on this... but also think of the single mom's who work and simply cannot take additional time off or they'll get fired/not have enough $ to get thru the month.
@oandmplus1 I know what you mean - I let DS pick out some valentine cards from Target and I'll send some cookies or cupcakes. I don't have time to do the Pintrest type stuff... not enough hours in the day for that.

I get that. It's a real shit position for everyone. And I end up being sick all winter and having to go to school anyway because I work for a small school that doesn't have a ton of sub flexibility, and every time I get over one cold there is another one to catch. I'm mostly salty today because yesterday a kid who really should have been home coughed in my mouth and I can feel my (already present) cold getting worse by the minute.
I don't think you have to like Beyonce to appreciate the very public stand she's taking as a black artist about black lives.
Agreed! I'm just talking about how some call her a goddess and queen. I just don't really like her music at all and can't see why everyone is so obsessed.

@oandmplus1 - Agreed; it's always a competition. I decided I'm not going all-out on any of these things because it just creates huge expectations (and it takes time!) as they get older. I see moms pinning these super creative and difficult projects for Valentine's Day; meanwhile, I bought a box of Rice Crispy Treats with a spot to write 'to' and 'from' on for DD to bring to daycare. Mother of the Year, right here.
I don't follow Beyoncé at all, but during the halftime show, I found myself wondering how many squats/leg workouts she does to be in the shape for those dance routines. Can't help but be impressed with that.

It really puts everyone in a terrible situation... I get pissy with people at work too that come in and are barking every where and I'm like "cool, I'll be over here in my office spraying Lysol every time anyone passes by"
@elenabrent I just threw up in my mouth a little bit with that. I hated waiting tables because of people who were sick and touch/cough/sneeze all over everything and don't wash their hands. Ugh it's so gross.
It needs to start at employers who need to be more forgiving about time like this. We get three PTO days for the whole year. Besides FMLA, anything after three is unexcused. You have six total for the year and you're fired.
As for Beyonce, my opinion doesn't matter much in the scheme of things. Happy for her to have such a platform to talk about something she felt strongly about, and always happy for anything anyone can do regarding equality, but wish she could show support for the full police escort she had on the way to the game in the same breath.
Her song Partition makes me horny, though. A+ for that.
@mamabish and @suprsuz I LOVE the opinion that changing tables are unneccessary. I'd rather save the money and buy a good dresser. Kids will use a dresser much, much longer.
My UO: I hate the perception that people who want unmedicated births are sanctimonious hippies who are judging everyone else. I'm not an especially crunchy gal. And I think everyone should do what they want with their bodies. I don't think medicated births are "wrong."
I just don't want one. The medicated births in my family went awry, and the unmedicated ones were straightforward with easier recoveries. That could be a coincidence. But since I'm built like the other women in my family, I'd like to try doing what has worked best in our family. Simple as that.

I don't think that every political statement has to be equally fair to everyone or recognize every person/point of view. And I think her standing up and speaking out about police brutality towards black Americans doesn't mean that she doesn't appreciate her police escort or that she thinks that all police are a part of the problem. It's the point that celebrating black lives/saying black lives matter does not in any way mean that all lives don't matter/shouldn't be celebrated. It's calling out the systemic racism and oppression that impacts black Americans and celebrating their lives/culture/etc.
I hate Valentine's Day. DH is also on board with this, but I do get a lot of crap from people saying how unloving I am or whatever. I just prefer to be loved/show love every day of the year! I don't need one day set aside to go out on a date or anything with my husband. I'll still tell people to enjoy their Valentine's Day.. just don't celebrate it myself.
Along the Valentines day idea, I don't like red velvet cake/cupcakes at all. All that food coloring= gross I did however get DH some chocolate truffles.. that I will be sharing with him lol

I don't pretend to think that my opinion, such as it is, matters much. I get that I'm a middle class white American with no real understanding of the situation. I also said that I'm glad she had the opportunity to use that platform and I'm glad that many Americans felt empowered by it. In the same way, I am sad that celebrities so often use their voice to complain about problems, but often stay silent when it comes to fixing the problems.

@elenabrentI'm another one who has a kid with a runny nose for the entirety of winter. If it makes you feel any better I'm sick all winter too thanks to him and his daycare germs.... we can commiserate and keep passing germs together.

@PleaseSendPicklesNow I agree with your point on medicated vs. unmedicated births. However you want/need to get your baby out is totally cool, but I want to do it this way. Doesn't mean I think any less of anyone who chooses drugs or a c-section, or ends up with either after planning not to. Who knows how it'll actually go for me!
@PleaseSendPicklesNow I'm pretty crunchy (I guess, based on ideology but not necessarily how I would describe myself), but I'm definitely not sanctimonious. Even when I want to get on a soap box about things I try to restrain myself. So, I guess my other UO is that I hate that stereotype.
My UO is that I'm not a big fan of the "Brag about your SO here" thread... but mainly just because my H doted on me and was amazing with my first pregnancy, and this time around I'm not getting any extra help or special attention. So... mainly it's out of jealousy and reading it makes me want to post on the #whymypregnantselfiscrying thread.
Also: Hoping for an unmedicated birth does not mean I'm going to turn my nose up at non-organic food, become vegan, eat my placenta, refuse to vaccinate my child, or anything else.
If you can't tell, I've dealt with some wacky assumptions this week!

When it specifically comes to systemic racism and oppression, it is not their responsibility to fix the problem. Not at all. Bringing an issue to the forefront that needs to be addressed does not in any way mean they are responsible for bringing the solution. They aren't the problem and aren't any more capable of being the solution than any other minority.

I agree with you. I've told a few people that I'm planning an unmedicated birth and I feel like I always have to preface it by saying "I'm not trying to be a hero/ I don't believe it's the "way nature intended"/ I'm not afraid of the baby being born "drugged out"" or all the other stereotypical reasons. It truly is a personal choice for mainly my own comfort. I want to be able to be up and changing positions/ walking around if needed, I want to avoid a catheter, I don't want to feel nauseated (I'm looking at you pitocin) and I'm afraid of my labour stalling due to an epidural. That said, I'm aware that things may change and medical intervention may be necessary. If I need a C section to get the baby out safely I'm all for it.
My U/O: When you tell people you're planning an unmedicated birth and they give you this knowing look while telling you you'll change your mind. Riiiiiight, you know better what my mind and body are capable of than me. Ughhhhhhh.
