Symptoms Thread - February

I noticed there hasn't been a symptoms thread in a while!  I have a question about one I've been having and figured others might, too!  Anything going on you're not sure of?  Or know is totally normal but just need to vent about it?

Re: Symptoms Thread - February

  • Ok, my weird symptom is an ongoing ACHE in my lower belly.

I've noticed it for a week or so now but it came and went for a couple of days and I pretty much ignored it.  Then I worked out Saturday morning (40 minutes on the elliptical - low resistance, low speed) and since then it has been CONSTANT.  It's better when I'm resting but still present.  When I'm walking around, I feel like I have to hunch over a little and/or press my hand to my low belly for relief.  It hurts worse when I pick up DD.  At first I thought maybe I just overdid it with my workout but, now, three days later I feel like I would be starting to feel better if that were the case.  (Plus, my workout was super mild especially compared to what I was doing pre-pregnancy.)  I don't remember this with DD.  Sure, I had RLP but it was little tugs here and there to one side or the other...  This is like a constant mild cramp spread across my entire belly.

Anyone else experience anything similar?  I know it's common to experience mild cramping after exercise but how long has that lasted for those who've experienced it?  Should I wait for this to go away before working out again?  (I feel guilty for not working out but know I also have a tendency to "push through" things I really shouldn't ignore.)

  • Is this thread supposed to be a check in or a place to talk about your symptoms so we don't have five I'm tired/hungry threads in one day?
  • @jhems776 Before we started the daily (and then weekly) check-ins, we had threads for symptom-related topics.  I think different people use them differently but, as you mentioned, it cuts down on duplicate posts and also give people an opportunity to ask questions, if needed, on days other than their ticker change days.  :)

  • @JennM205 the same pain happened to me recently! It lasted 2 days and was bothering me all day long. The 2nd night of it, I had a really hard time getting comfortable sleeping and tossed and turned all night. The next morning it was gone, thank goodness! I hope you feel better soon!

  • @JennM205 ouch! Sounds annoying. I've been having aches in my lower abdomen constantly and it ended up being that pregnancy is causing my IBS to flare up. After adding more fiber to my diet, I finally just had Metamucil one night and it went away that same night... yours sounds more like a muscular thing though. I hope it gets better soon! I wouldn't work out again until it does, though, but that's just me.

  • I think I'm about 9 weeks. (Haven't been to dr yet) but I was hungry hungry hungry all the time. Now all of a sudden I feel so freaking nauseas I could just about die. Anyone have it kick in just now?
  • Itchy boobs!!  They haven't been as sore lately but at times itch like crazy.  Oh and ummmm some painful gas pains lol.  I keeping thinking I need to use the bathroom but to no avail  :/.  Occasionally slightly nauseous, grumpy and tired!
  • Horrible metal taste in my mouth 24/7, waves of nausea, sore boobs and gassy af! 10w4d and counting!
  • Nauseous and exhausted! Along with lovely gas and constipation. My boobs hurt like crazy and are SO big, I look like I have freaking porn star boobs. I also have a need to brush my teeth as much as possible, usually 3-4 times a day and I've been showering twice a day, my normal is once a day or even every other in the winter. I feel like I smell and have rank breath ALL THE TIME
  • Gas and constipation, omg!! I can't sleep at night BC my belly is so bloated.  I've tried prunes and even more water, I eat plenty of fiber....my first checkup is next week and I'm going to talk to my midwife about changing to a prenatal without iron...until then I'm stocking up on colace and miralax...so uncomfortable....
  • For the first time I really don't feel like eating (like in my life  ;) ) but when I don't get I get nauseous.
  • Ok ladies I need some help/reassurance with my lack of symptoms lately as its starting to worry me.   I feel normal for the most part.   No nausea, or metallic taste, boobs are a little sore after removing the bra but otherwise fine,  etc.   The only symptoms I think I have, I'm worried I'm making as part of pregnancy symptoms even though they're not really strong.  For example:  increased discharge, thirsty, increase gas, appetite, and tired.    To me these all just kinda minor as i'm functioning normally.    I'll be 9 wks tomorrow and my next appt isn't until the 26th....so yea, i've got some time to go and the worry is strong.    Anyone else free of the 'bad' symptoms (constipation, nausea, etc)?
  • @jhems776 That was me a few weeks ago!  I went from being a total foodie to not wanting anything (what!?) and then, of course, just feeling worse the longer I went without forcing something into my mouth.  Finally past that stage but I'm not sure this one is any better.  Now I only want bad foods (fruits and vegetables seriously sound just awful).  So I eat what I can tolerate and then regret it later - whether in the form of added pounds, constipation or major heart burn.  Reaaaaaly hoping things level out in second tri!

@LakeR2014 - You are not alone! This is me as well. My boobs are a little sore, and sometimes I wonder If I'm not just making that up lol. I'm 7w3d, so still pretty early, but I'm with you. One day I got really gassy, but the next day nothing....so who knows. I'm just trying to stay positive, maybe we're just the lucky ones?

  • @LakeR2014 You are definitely not alone! I consider my symptoms to be very mild compared to everyone else too. You not having your period is a symptom and even your mentioning your breasts being sore after taking your bra off is a symptom. As for me, I have felt pretty tired (the worst this week but still not terrible compared to what I imagined) and sore boobs occasionally (oh and bloated) but otherwise, I feel blessed to not have the MS and digestive issues. My skin looks even better and I am not extra emotional. Don't get me wrong, I may have the occasional stomach disruption but I primarily just feel bloated a lot. And I crave way more junk food than normal. I will tell you what everyone on The Bump says if you search this in the threads, just enjoy it and know that it is normal to not have a lot of the common symptoms like MS (it is just rare :) ).

  • @LakeR2014 Me too! If I hadn't read other people's responses in other threads I think I would have been more worried about not having the more typical symptoms. I have occasional sore boobs, gas, bloating and being more tired than usual. I still can't wait for a heart beat to confirm it (my appt is next week!) but I do feel lucky with no MS.

@LakeR2014 @scifichick09 @blondie080300 @pdxmamatobe same!! in the mild boat, aside from sleepiness and drowsiness. I actually had to email my doctor and ask if it was normal to not have symptoms and she said yes, very normal (if that helps). I haven't even thrown up yet. I mean yea, my nipples got dry, and my scalp got oilier, etcetera but shrug. So far, so good. High five. B)
  • Thanks @scifichick09 @blondie080300 @pdxmamatobe & @frogdog06   It's really nerve wracking seeing everyone with 'normal' pregnancy symptoms and I don't feel at all different.  Don't get me wrong, if everything is fine, I feel very lucky that I don't have the typical symptoms, but not having any strong ones has me worried somethings wrong.    But then as my husband says, 'whatever will be, will be, and we'll be able to handle it, so try not to worry unnecessarily now.'   I'm trying to take that mantra to heart as I don't have another OB appt for two weeks.
  • To those of you worried about not having symptoms, I didn't have any with my first.  I was tired but that was it.  No cramps, no sore boobs, no food aversions, no MS, wasn't nauseated and didn't throw up once.  Similar for #2, no real symptoms to speak of other than being more tired than usual.  This time around it's different and I'm not really interested in eating anything, my boobs are really sore all the time and occasionally I have some cramping.

Every person is different and every pregnancy is different.  Enjoy not having any symptoms and try not to worry.
  • I was so looking forward to no period = no breakouts.  But apparently my body disagreed, so now I'm bloated, tired (huge bags under my eyes), and have zits everywhere.  I was hoping I'd be one of those glowing pregnant women, but instead I look haggard and awful.  Add the nausea/ravenous combo and I'm wonderful.  Luckily I'm not moody at all, possibly even less than I was before the BFP.
  • Does anyone have any feeling of lower back pain? I'm pretty mild in symptoms these days around 8 weeks but this morning my lower back is really achy! I haven't heard of that before so I'm curious!!
  • @=tink= My lower back ached for a day or two around the same point in my pregnancy (a few weeks ago now).  It wasn't painful per se...just ACHY.  I think aches and pains in the lower back during pregnancy is pretty common, actually.  For me, the ache went away as quickly as it came.  Hoping the same for you!

  • I'm having some mild lower abdomen cramps. Feels just like period cramps for 2-3 days now. It kinda reaches down to my upper front thighs too.  I know its not round ligimante pain this is lower. I dont remember this from my first pregnancy. I have no bleeding or anything else going on. Has anyone experienced this?
  • I barely had any symptoms with my son.  No sore boobs, no nausea, nothing except a little tired and craving sweets.  My OB always told me I was "boring" (in a joking way)... Because I never had any complaints or questions.

@=tink= I had lower back pain since the day before I got my BFP and every day after that for the next 3 or 4 weeks. Lately, I get it when I walk a little bit (like at the grocery store) so it's there almost every day. No reason to worry, getting that lower back ache was what tipped off my SIL to take a test with her second! It's totally normal.

  • My weirdest symptom was a breakout of red bumps on my arms and one hand! Of course, I freaked out and went to my primary doctor who could find nothing wrong. My OGBYN told me it's a reaction to the hormones! Anyone else get that? It started on my left arm above my elbow, moved up my arm, then my right hand got a few, and then my right arm around the elbow and upwards. Started two weeks ago, spreading stopped after about a day, and the red bumps are finally faded now and almost completely gone. So weird!

I just started to get that mild ache in my lower back too! Glad to see that it's normal! I've also had the random cramps and pains in my stomach and abdomen, most often if I'm laying down and move to one side or the other. My doctor reassured me that it's totally normal- the uterus is expanding and taking up more room, even with the little one being so small still, and it can cause these random aches and pains. She also said it's totally normal for most people to not feel it or notice it. She said some people are just super in-tune with their bodies and feel every little thing, while other people may not be, and everyone's symptoms are totally different!

I had these on my stomach right before my BFP. They spread a little but we're gone within a week. I had them also with my son
  • @SarahMConnors Did the bumps itch? I had a break out that was similar to what you're describing postpartum with my DD. It was extremely itchy, and happened around my knees/legs as well. OB told me the same, it was hormone related and Cortisone helped with the itching until it went away. Its definitely a symptom you don't hear of often!

@camichael84 yes they did itch! It was so crazy! I'm not allergic to anything, so I knew it wasn't hives. & @mamajen10414
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's gone through it- I was sure I was losing my mind! It's crazy what the hormones do to us!
Thank you both for reassuring me that I'm not alone in the weirdness!

  • Okay I am 10 week 2 days and I hadn't experienced any huge bouts of nausea or morning sickness. I thought i was one of those few woman who are lucky to not get morning sickness. Recently when brushing my teeth I have been gagging on the excess tooth paste in my mouth. Its especially worse when I go to spit and I gag and dry heave.

I have changed tooth paste thinking the flavor wasnt helping and it didnt change.

Anyone else effected by this and later on in pregnancy.

  • The past couple of days I feel flu-like - headache, achey, tired, vaguely nauseous, irritable. And now I'm at my in-laws for the weekend and everyone is telling me, "oh it's because of what you ate" or "it's because of the pollen." OR IT'S BECAUSE I'M FREAKING PREGNANT OK! Jeez. Sometimes I wish I had a bump already so people could SEE it better, know what I mean? Just because I'm not throwing up doesn't mean I'm fine. I still feel crappy!

Yeah-- I'm feeling like that today too, @WildMama   up until now I have been pretty functional but today, after taking my almost 2 year old to the zoo, I have felt awful. Not sure if I overdid it chasing him around or if I'm just entering a new phase of symptoms where I feel generally crappy.
  • Yes this happens to me @Smashbox29, I'm 11 weeks and dread brushing my teeth (especially getting to the back) as I too often gag and dry heave. I've even been sick a couple of times.
Sometimes I dry heave on a morning in the shower.
My fatigue has gotten better but has been replaced with the often nauseous feeling that can sometimes last the whole day.

  • Also, I just had to leave the room bawling after watching the debate. Not trying to get political here, just saying I was SUPER hormonal and so upset about some of the stuff being said that I had to leave the room. Sobbing. Like, for a long time.
  • Just the usual here -- fatigue, moodiness/emotional, lack of appetite, nausea and heartburn later in the day. The fatigue is probably my  most severe at this point, luckily. Last night, DH and I were at dinner, and at about 7:30 I closed my eyes for a second, and I swear I could have fallen asleep right there!
  • @WildMama I totally feel you. My co-workers and boss at my main job have been putting a lot of pressure on me, and I've been running a bit ragged- and I just want to yell "I'M PREGNANT!" so they stop expecting 200% from me and realize that the last few weeks I've been holding it together while prego.

@Smashbox29 I've only just started feeling queasy more often. Earlier on I felt sick with certain smells- I had a coconut shampoo and conditioner that I was using, and one morning all of a sudden I was practically gagging as I tried to wash my hair. I think it's normal to come and go, and to experience different triggers that will fluctuate too.

Pregnancy brain fog! Last night I was getting ready for bed. Took all my day clothes off, put my Jammie's on and got into bed. Realized I still had my bra on so I took it off... It was a completely different bra than I had been wearing all day. So, I had taken my one off and put the new one on without realizing.

Then today I lost my keys for a good 5hrs. My husband was on the phone with the tow truck driver to get a lock out because we figured they must be in my truck since we couldn't find them for that long. Nope, they were sitting on top of my coffee maker the whole time.

Edit: Pregnancy brain set in again
