Omg so many people put Lucy - why the hate? I really need to know since its our top choice eeep
I love Lucy but I wouldn't name anyone after her. My other association is the peanuts character. I also have a beloved aunt Lucy. With all these positive associations I still hate the name.
I know a cranky old Lucille so that's out for me.
It's a matter of personal opinion/style. If you love it, use it!
This is slightly ridiculous of me but I am truly sick of all female names that end in an A. There are just too damn many at this point and I'm sick of it. Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Isabella, Ava, Mia JUST STOP IT ALREADY.
@m8881 I was surprised to see Lucy on the list also. That's our daughter's name and we get compliments on it all the time. People also tell us she fits her name perfectly - probably because she's a comedic toddler with a smart mouth who never shuts the hell up. I don't know if the name shaped her personality or what- so use at your own risk. I don't know if it's possible to get a docile or quiet Lucy. Anyway, if you love Lucy, I guarantee people in real life will not be eye rolling.
I'm not a fan of men's names that are made feminine. Like Carla or Paula. (full disclosure: I loathe people with these names). I am also not a fan of Jessica. Or any name with -den or -son at the end.

girls names that has ANA added to the end (very 1990's) Liliana, Briana, Ariana, Kristiana. The name Rhonda is also on this list......I have never met a nice Rhonda
I thought Jax was a cute nn the first time I heard it but now it bugs me. Declan - I hate the way it looks and sounds Craig Alicia Jenna Pamela/Pam Jordan on a girl, jordana is even worse Agree with the Bertha hate
There are names i dislike because i find them kind of ugly (Robert, Keith, *shudder* CHAD...) but i realize that's just a vague personal preference. There is nothing really wrong with Robert.
The names i truly loathe? Last names as first names. Misspelled names of any kind. Names that technically don't exist. Like "Raystlin" What the sweet hell is a Raystlin? It's not anything, that's what it is. It's an undignified mess of consonants and Ys. It's a casserole of nonsense. It's a name that looks like it was purchased last minute off the rack. The SALE rack. At walmart.
When i encounter kids with names like this, I'm sorry, I assume their mothers are sweater wearing soccer moms with four elves on the shelves who chronically mix up there/their/they're. The only thing worse than being pretentious is trying to be pretentious and failing.
Sloane, Jaden, Jackson, Branden, Landon etc. Ivory, Paisley, Madison, Aurora.
There was somebody... was it here? Who wanted to name her child Paisley. Which is BY FAR bad enough. Except that she insisted on misspelling it. With two EEs and some other nonsense. It was so badly misspelled that she altered the original pronunciation without meaning to. She ended up spelling it "Pasilee" - rendering her child forever as "Pas-ill-eee".
This right here is why you don't try to be a hero with illiteracy.
This might sound strange, but names like Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary, Grace, Rose, Jennifer...I wouldn't say I hate them, I am just SO BORED by them because I've heard them so much over my lifetime.
I don't hate but just highly dislike. Ashley Brittney Brianna Courtney (my name) Lol I think I just dislike how common these names were growing up, including my own.
I personally am just super not into common names. I personally find it strange when people go and choose from the top of the most common list. So as far as choosing my own baby name, those are the names I like the least. But in theory a name i 'like' could end up there. So names that I just dont like on their own. Im not into this adding -ley -lynn to everything, thing. Or names that just sound extremely made up.
I had to add another one. Perfectly legitimate name that everyone seems the like, but I hate Samuel. The sound is so unappealing. It just sounds silly.
I'll also second the Faye thing. Don't get that either.
Sloane needs to stop. Morgan Margot All the over used Olivia's, Sophia's, Maddison's, and the like. Travis and Trevor Ava and Ada Sean Veronica Riley Mia Leah And so many more.
Emily -- all Emilys I've ever encountered are whiny brats Peter -- not sure why Brianna -- so 80s Alyssa -- feels 80s and made up Trevor, Craig, Gregory -- give me the willies, don't know why
I'm surprised at the hate for Hunter. It's my son's middle name and he went by it up until 3 years ago when he decided that he preferred to be called by his first name, David. Maybe changing to David was a good thing, lol!
I do hate the name Parker though. I have no idea why either.
Martha. Just because for some reason even tho that name only shares 2 letters with my name, that is the most frequently misused name that people call me.
For boys, Richard. Just, the nn Dick... No thanks
Are you a Melissa? Because I've gotten the '....Martha?' mixup periodically when I've introduced myself and I've never ever understood why people hear that.

Iris.
I used to really like this name until someone on this board said they knew an Iris and everyone called her Iris the virus. Now that's all I think of when I hear or see it.
I agree with everyone who said Keith. Isn't there a joke on Family Guy about it being the most unattractive name, ever? Lol
So happy to see so many others agree with me about Sloane. Especially for a girl! It sounds like heavy death metal to me. I don't get it. Also, Wanda, Bertha, Esther, Gertrude, and all of the popular names from the 80's and early 90's (ashley, emily, Erin, Nicole, Jennifer, etc).
For boys...Samual, Thomas, John, Eric, Zach...so common, so boring.
I have a love/hate thing with the name Lucy- I love traditional names and I think it's cute and pretty, but I always think Lucifer. Or that kids at school would call her Lucy-fer or something. Or maybe I'm just crazy!
also can't stand: -Stella -Elizabeth -Victoria -Sloane (exception Dr.Sloane from Greys) -Griffin -BERTHA -Melvin -Bailey (exception Dr.Bailey from Greys) -Sandy/Sandra -Isabelle, Anabelle, Arabelle, Bella, Belle
ETA: my dislike from almost every name above comes from the fact that I know someone that has that name and is either completely annoying or just a terrible person. I'm sure if some of the names above weren't associated with someone I don't like, I would actually like the name!!
Re: Least favorite names
Oops!! Well, I think I just have bad associations with the names. Too funny!
To nn to me and just not pretty.
I know a cranky old Lucille so that's out for me.

I don't get the Lucy hate. I think Lucy is a lovely name. We like what we like, I don't know why.
Haha about "nasal". I'm not a fan of hazel either. Could be because I had to squirt witch hazel on my hooha after a second degree tear. Shrug.

And anything that sounds trying-too hard or made up. I like simple but unique. (If I have a girl, my top name is Nola, for example)
