Davids Tea - safe for pregnant women?

Hello and i apologize if this has been discussed. I did search for herbal teas but it was way too broad and i couldn't find exactly what i was looking for. Not sure if David's tea is just a Canadian brand, but if its sold in the States, then i welcome answers from everyone!
I miss tea.
i miss coffee. i know i can have a little but i would rather cut it out all together.
But i really miss tea. My husband and i had a bonding thing at night time, and we would make tea and have it watching Netflix. Now he does and i sit there sad with water in my hand lol
Anyone know of a particular kind at David's tea that is safe for pregnant women? I am on my second trimester. I read so many things when i google it, and its all so all over the place.
Thanks for your time!

  • I think you need to read the ingredients for each tea as they vary. I have some
davids tea Pom springs but just read and check out the ingredients

  • I know and i have been doing that but beem discouraged because i cant find one darn tea that doesn't have something in it that i cannot have!
  • What did your dr say? I would ask her/him rather than a group of internet strangers.

Also, you need to look at the type of tea, not brand. That's what matters. FWIW, I still drink peppermint herbal tea and that is safe.

  • Yes i am aware that its the type of tea, not the brand. I am asking about Davids tea because this is where we purchase our teas. I am asking the strangers on the internet because i am assuming there's someone out there that knows of one type of tea at Davids that they heard their doc or midwife say is safe.
I have asked my midwife and i didnt get a straight answer there either. Was thinking someone out there in Bump world may know something i dont!
But the peppermint thing is very helpful! I do enjoy peppermint! I shall get my hungry for tea self over to the mall to purchase a peppermint! Thank you @MrsRo731
  • OMG I love David's tea - although I haven't found one I can drink yet either. I've stuck with decafinated English breakfast tea for the keurig for now. I'd love to know of one thats suitable during pregnancy as well! I have an entire cupboard dedicated to David's Tea it's a brutal addiction hahaah
  • When I was in David's tea with my husband I pulled up a list of teas to avoid on the interweb and just went through them till I found something I liked. The woman working was super helpful, which was nice because they have so many options
  • I'm keeping an eye on this thread because I'm going to a fancy afternoon tea when we go to London next month and I'll definitely be drinking a few cups of tea. I know they list the tea menu online so I might just research each one and see which ones are pregnancy safe.

Personally, I'm one of those "everything in moderation" people (with the exception of drugs & alcohol obviously), but if you're drinking the tea daily it's probably best that it's on the "approved" list. The OVIA app has a useful list of food restrictions too.

  • I'm pretty sure the Pom one I have is okay

  • I am also a really big tea drinker. My midwife told me that there is no restriction on what tea I can consume. She did mention to double check how much caffeine I will be consuming and to not try someone's homemade blends because they are not regulated, but otherwise I had free reign. I have been drinking early grey, chai, peppermint, chamomile, etc. with no side effects.
  • I just ordered some David's Tea today! I got the one called "mighty Aphrodite". It is a raspberry leaf tea. I drank lots of raspberry leaf tea during previous pregnancies and I believe it helped with labour. And it's yummy! Always check with your doc to be sure.
  • yes @EmT156 i just found out about this one too! i am going to call my local davids and see if they have it in stock or if its just order online only!! pretty excited to have my tea again! thanks for all the input ladies!!!

  • I drink tea daily but haven't tried David's a quick search and it looks like just an awesome tea company. I order loose leaf from Teavana personally, and I don't really see the difference and what I'm missing? I asked my OB if there were any kinds of herbs or specific teas she didn't want me to have and she gave me free reign, just saying to watch the caffeine. Currently I'm drinking a Chai mix with a little bit of black tea for caffeine boost in the AM and I drink all kinds of herbal at night. In the first tri I only survived my nausea because of ginger tea.

I really like David's tea in general.

I was going insane trying to figure out what kinds of tea are ok because if you search online everything will at some point have someone commenting on how it might not be safe (and who even knows where people are getting their info from...).

But after some checking with my OB and others I'm doing what others are doing - decaf black tea (earl grey for me! I like the Twinings brand but I bet others have good ones too) and peppermint. I agree that everything in moderation is probably ok though....

Edited to add: I like Rooibos tea as well!
  • @sboston06 Usually fancy tea places have decaf options. Usually they are fruit or floral teas which still taste great!

  • It is news to me that certain teas are unsafe in pregnancy (other than the caffeine issue). Urrgh so many endless rules!!! I am not typically a tea drinker but since becoming pregnant and cutting back drastically on coffee I have been drinking Peppermint tea or Celestial "Sleepytime" tea  (which is so yummy and there is a cute bear on the package). I just googled these and apparently they are safe... guess I will mention to my OB and see what she says.
  • My midwife gave me a list of herbs to avoid so I check it when I drink a new herbal tea, the only thing I've run into so far is licorice root which is too bad because licorice tea is my absolute favorite.
