[updated] Has anyone done the Counsyl NIPT? Worried.

I had my blood drawn for the NIPT last Monday. My OB goes through Counsyl (basically same as Panorama, Harmony, etc.). Anyway, they gave me a login to check results and my doctor even laughed and said I'll probably get them before she even does. "But don't worry - they won't give you any bad results online," she says.

So all last week I'm compulsively logging in multiple times per day to check. Every time it says "status: processing and analyzing." Yesterday it changed to "status: processing completed." When I clicked for details it said my results had been sent to my OB and have not yet been released online. I won't lie - I'm a little concerned. Either I misunderstood what my OB said about me getting the results before she does and this is just part of the process (releasing them to the doctor, then online)... or it's bad news and my doctor will need to review and go over them with me instead of just releasing them to me directly. Of course this would happen over the weekend. I plan to call them Monday morning, but my mind has been in all the worst places all weekend. I'm hoping someone here has done this same test and got the "results released to doctor but not online" message and had everything turn out perfectly fine.

Hi, I had the Counsyl test done for the genetic screenings... My understanding is they won't release them online until the doctor gets them and signs off on it... I think your doc may be mistaken so I wouldn't worry at all.
ETA- I received the same message and everything was 100% perfect

  • Sorry you're going through this!
  • I had the Counsyl family prep screen test. It told me when I logged in that the results would be given to my doctor and then would be available online. I think they do that so they can have you talk to a person about what the results mean (statistics, etc) before you find out from a website.

My results came back that I am a carrier (recessive gene) for a syndrome that causes genetic deafness which we weren't expecting at all--I didn't realize it would test for those types of conditions. It explains why my mom is partially deaf though and really is great info for me and her to have. DH is getting tested on Tuesday (also the Counsyl test) although I think his likelihood of having the gene is really small.

  • My doc said the same thing, but I didn't see them post til after. It takes about 10 business days for those results to come back (according to the office). So it was almost two weeks for me. Don't fret!
  • Also, don't feel guilty about checking so often.. I was borderline psychotic with the refresh button until the results came in... hang in there!!!!
  • I've been researching this because I'm having it done next week and it seems like the message you are getting is standard procedure. From what I can see, the online will say that the info has been released to your doctor and then they sign off on it and counsyl will release them online. This is exactly how I was expecting it would go for me. So no worries!

  • I had it done. Thats standard procedure. I even chatted with a rep and they said they can't give you results.. The doc had to give them to me. The good thing was i called my doctor same day and they told me over the phone same day. They did not make me wait ...

  • Thank you all for talking me down! I just wish my doctor hadn't told me I would get them before her! But maybe I misunderstood something.

Office opens at 7:30 (pacific) tomorrow. You bet your ass I'm calling them first thing!!

Congrats @bananers! I just did this test last Tuesday so I've been stalking this thread and squirming for results myself.

If you don't mind me asking, when you login to your Counsyl account, when does it say your test was ordered? I ask because mine says 2/5 even though I had the test itself on 2/2. I wonder if it's just showing the date on which the test was received. If it should be 2/2, I want to get that fixed ASAP so I'm not artificially behind in line. :)

It says the test was ordered on 2/2 but I actually took it on 2/1. So I'm assuming it shows the date it was received. Good luck!!

  • Sweet, thank you for your response!

I don't know if this is just a new test or what, but it seems tough to find information about it.

  • Yay! So glad to hear that. What a relief. :)
  • Congratulations! Sorry for all the fear! Sometimes doctors don't think about what they're saying before it comes out, then you have to deal with the consequences :( But that's very exciting! Congrats on a healthy baby. I hope you have a healthy rest of your pregnancy too! I also think sometimes doctors don't remember that some of their patients have suffered losses, and some things you would say to the general population, you wouldn't to someone like us who has had a loss or multiple.
