Maternity Clothes

We may not need them just yet but where have you all found you can find the cheapest, decent quality clothes? I'd like to try and prepare for this. Thanks! I did have to go buy a new mat bra yesterday to sleep in...sisters need a little more support these days! ;)

  • Anyone know where to find plus-sized maternity clothes? I'm in that weird place where I can still wear some non plus-sized clothes, but it depends on the style and I'm sure it won't last much longer. And Motherhood Maternity had a tiny selection of plus-sized clothes when I went there during my last pregnancy.

  • Target and old navy! I actually jumped the gun and bought a cute sweater at target the other day because it was on clearance for $6.88..  I've ordered stuff off gap.com too when they've had really good sales and I like their stuff as well! My favorite jeans are old navy though.
  • Target and old navy. Also, Ross sometimes has decent maternity stuff.

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I've done Stitch Fix before and liked it a lot.  I know they do maternity clothes too, and last year when my friend was pregnant she got some super cute maternity clothes from Stitch Fix!

But I will probably get most of my clothes from Target.  I have to admit last time I was there I browsed the maternity section.  So much stuff!  I'm also guessing TJ Maxx would have good stuff, although I haven't looked at their maternity section.

  • @krzyriver old navy has the nicest fitting. The tanks are amazing and stay right where they need to.

  • I bought most of my clothes at the gap for my previous pregnancy. I found that it was much less expensive to buy online than in the store.
  • I'm going to check out Kohl's when the time comes. Even Target is a little high end for us with me as a full time student. Old Navy and Gap never fit me right.

  • @von1976 None of Old Navy's regular clothes fit me, but I really like the maternity fit there. I don't know why it's so different (maybe the stretch in the maternity clothes?).

PinkBlush has some cute stuff I'm hoping to try out this time around.  I'm not sure on the quality, but the prices are pretty decent.  With my first I had stuff from Old Navy, Gap, and Target mostly.

ETA: @krzyriver looks like they have a plus size line there too.

Check the target clearance often... I feel like kohls is even more expensive than target!

  • I wasn't a fan of old navy's quality but I haven't purchased maternity clothes in over 4 years so maybe it has changed. I really liked the jeans I got their at first but they would stretch out and lose their fit and become very saggy fitting after more than an hour of wear. And the shirts I got had such bad pilling after one wash. I would rather spend a little extra and catch a good sale at GAP. Pink Blush has great styles, but I can't vouch for the quality. Someone asked about Plus size, and I am pretty sure Pink blush does offer plus sized maternity clothes.

I love Ross and Good Will for these. I know some don't care for second hand or cheap n' cheerful, but the things I've found at Good Will are AMAZING. You can get some truly expensive maternity styles (think Pea in a Pod or the name brands that usually go for like 80 bucks a jean) for under 10 bucks. You can take home a cart load of decent, stylish stuff from Good Will for like 50 bucks.

My maternity stuff has been getting use by others (barrowed) or myself (weight gain and loss, and let's face it-- they are comfortable!) since 2011. They are getting worn and I need to go have myself a good Good Will foraging party. You DO have to take the time to rummage through things, and I do recommend trying on-- then washing the items when you get home. However, last pregnancy I found some of the cutest things that fit me (I'm a 1X plus size).

If you don't mind paying the money-- I love going to the Name brand just to try on and see what fits. THEN you can either order online (some discounts and shipping) OR go to a site that I found for cheap clothing. I won't link it here because I don't know how that fits in TOU, but I can always message you with the application name. Once you know how you fit into the name brand clothing then you can order it from anywhere.

You DO however get what you pay for. So, sometimes its worth it to pony up for the maternity clothes.

  • I second target!  Also the over the belly jeans they sell by liz lange maternity stop at size 18 but I am a size 20/22 and the 18s fit awesome! Strongly recommend their jeans.

  • Lularoe and Zulily are my two go to places where I can wear stuff now and they will stretch with the babies (baby).
  • Asos.com is Amazing so cheap! They also have some really cute more expensive options for your shower. I am buying tank tops etc. when they are on clearance for the summer. They already have some really good options up.
  • I'd recommend looking at Motherhood Maternity for clearance/sale shirts and tanks, Target and Old Navy for maternity pants, not sure where else yet since it is still early but I will look into what the others suggested. It seems like the stores near me have limited maternity sections...when I was just wishing to get pregnant all I ran into was maternity clothes but now that I will be needing them they're MIA!
  • I actually went to thrift stores in the area.
Super cheap, already comfortably worn, and with the money I'm saving, husband and I are going on plenty of dates before the big day. :)
  • Also, ask around your other mum friends. They might have maternity clothes they hoarded 'just in case' that they would be willing to pass on to you.
  • Wah, I gave away all my maternity clothes because I thought we weren't having anymore, whoops!  Since this is definitely absolutely our very last pregnancy, I'm probably going to put the word out wit my friends and see if anyone has any they want to part with. Next step is craigslist and the good will and I'll probably get a few nice outfits new for any big events.

  • I'm planning on hitting up consignment  stores or some thrift shops in the hope they will have something  nice. The nearest retail maternity store is a 3 hour drive  away and for some reason I  a terrible online shopper. Nothing I get ever fits right.
  • I'm in Manitoba, Canada and Thyme Maternity has nice stuff as well as Motherhood Maternity.
  • @laurakunzelman another Canadian yay!  How does Motherhood Maternity  fit in comparison  to  thyme?
  • I have not bought anything yet. I went to Thyme yesterday to look around and I will buy some of their leggings when I need them. All I wear are legging any way. They also have nice tank and tee shirts I would buy. I am excited to see my bump. We have an H&M in Winnipeg and they had nice pants too. And some decent tops. I have not went to Motherhood Maternity yet but their website shows some good clothes I am excited to see.
    Where in Canada are you?
  • @laurakunzelman I'm on Vancouver Island on the west coast.
  • @alysie89 lucky!! My hubs is from Victoria and we can't wait to move back some day. Just waiting on BC to allow physician assistants to work there
