I am sick of having to pay $5 to wear jeans on Fridays at work because I don't really fit in a school shirt anymore, especially after my principal told me it wasn't her fault I didn't fit in them anymore (I had to bite my tongue on that one). So today, I squeezed into one just to prove a point! Going to use the $2 I saved to get something sweet out of the vending machine this afternoon. It's totally stupid, but I feel better about my life today because of it!
@jadablue it varies from week to week...money goes to Relay for Life, United Way, Ronald McDonald House, and other charities. We have different pay levels, it's $2 to wear khakis and a t-shirt with tennis shoes, $3 to wear jeans with a school shirt, and $5 to wear jeans with a regular (non-school) shirt. I haven't really cared until my principal made that remark.
I just ate 5 thin mint Girl Scout cookies for breakfast.
eta My gif won't work! Wahh
My niece keeps trying to haulk her GS cookies at me but with Thin mints, there is no stopping til the tube is gone so I'm remaining strong and telling her no!
@briterfly84 That's really interesting. I have to admit I would find that practice really irritating. Good thing I work in government where you're not even allowed to hawk girl scout cookies.

When I was leaving school the other day there was a group of boys throwing a sleeve of Thin Mints around like a football and kept calling to each other "Pass it to me, no me, pass to me!" So I just walked up to them and said "I'll take it". Idiots shouldn't be throwing cookies several yards around the crowded sidewalks while people are trying to dismiss from school...especially in front of the pregnant lady.
But I actually didn't eat any. Despite the fact that they were in an unopened wrapper, it was the end of the day and they were in grimy hands of middle school boys who likely don't wash their hands after they use the bathroom So maybe my FFFC is that I put the pack on the common table of the mail room and other teachers started going nuts over them...
I only bought 2 boxes from a coworkers daughter, I may be buying more next week. I LOVE them. You are not the only one who has no control with them @yodiggity
I am starting going to the dr every two weeks. Maybe more of an UO but I hate this part. So close to being done but having to miss work every two weeks. Of course they have emergency hours between 6 am and 8 am, and they typically close at four. No one at work is worried about my missing work but I find it obnoxious. My OB is 20 miles from work.

same here except weekly. Luckily, I am able to make up the time so that it doesn't count against PTO but still...it's annoying.

I mean, it's worth it but it's not very convenient.
@ready4theparty, I dread that part...my OB is 45 minutes away, so I have to take a half day each time just based on drive time! I know it means we are getting closer, but I don't want to use up my time. I teach so I can't make up time. And I would 100% rather take Friday afternoons off for appointments but my office closes at 12 every Friday. Oh well....
I'm dreading this too! I work 45 mins from my house with traffic & such. I usually have a mid morning appt so shortly after getting to work I have to drive downtown for 30 mins to get to my dr then driving time back. i spend more time driving than I do at the appointment. I'm taking my GTT test today..... So that will be fun. On the bright side I'll be downtown where all the good food places are for a yummy lunch after!
@Ready4theParty I have to use PTO for my appointments because my work hours start before my doctors office opens and my shift ends after my doctors office closes... I was having to take half days for a while, but now my appointments are late enough in the day that I only need to use 2 hours of PTO per appointment. I'm also now on the every two weeks schedule.
My work does the $5 casual Friday too, but only once a month. I hardly ever do it because I don't carry cash and it's easier to just wear the clothes I wear every day than to remember cash.
FFFC: My registry is a mix of exactly what I want and random stuff that I think people like to buy for showers. I'm worried that people are going to buy similar items instead of the exact items I want. I'm going to buy all of the stuff that I really want, mark it off the registry, and leave the random stuff (diaper genie, bassinet, bath toys, sound box, etc.) for everyone else.

Dang! They make you pay $5 to wear jeans on Fridays? Wow. We can wear jeans on every Friday as an office perk, but they have this thing if you want to wear Jeans on Thursdays you pay just $1 (which sounds more reasonable, imo) for Relay for Life. I think you're getting ripped off.
My FFFC: I'm wearing to work the same pair of jeans I wore to work yesterday. Since I sit at my desk all day long in a back corner office don't think nobody noticed.

I put a few things like that on mine. Gift baskets mostly (bath sets, towel sets) but not the ones that contain the crap I don't want (i.e. clutter). I tried to tailor my registries to how I shop for baby showers. I like to purchase one thing that's personalized (usually a lovey blanket that's embroidered with baby's name or something) along with something small off the registry and a gift card for where the person is registered so they can buy whatever the really wanted on the registry instead of me buying the filler crap they put on there like pacifier clips...lol
Damn, $5 every week for jeans would get old real fast on a teacher's salary. Hell, it would get old real fast on almost any salary!
My confession is that despite insisting that I never wanted to get a young puppy ever, I think I may have been swayed. DH was talking to a coworker yesterday about how we've been looking for a second dog again, and she knows the director of a local rescue that has a whole mess of puppies available this weekend. The black & white aussie mix...be still my heart!
@yodiggity I guess my other confession should be that I'm trying to resist texting the rescue lady 800 times today. They are having an adoption event tomorrow from noon-4 but we have a birth class on the other side of town from 10-5 I'm hoping she'll either hold her for us or agree to meet tonight!
@AEG84 OMG that puppy is seriously swoon-worthy!!! Our dog we had now we got at 9 weeks old, and while her first 6 months were frustrating, she was actually a really good puppy (and currently great dog), but the nipping and whining at us up on the couch since she couldn't reach us (and we wouldn't let her on the furniture) drove us crazy so we swore we'd never get a puppy again. I'm pretty sure I might change my mind on that haha. Puppies are just too adorable and in the grand scheme of things, if you get a good one that turns into a great dog, that "puppy phase" is so short.
@AEG84 I LOVE Aussies!!! Oh be still my heart... we will puppy sit for you anytime. Annndddd if they won't let you get her tonight, I'll pick her up tomorrow... but no guarantees you'd get her back just kidding... sorta...maybe
@AEG84 dooooo it!!! That's an adorable dog, plus good karma points by going with a rescue and not a breeder!
And with that, my FFFC: That "adopt don't shop" BS that is pushed down people's throats these days drives me effing nuts. There is nothing wrong with using a reputable breeder to get a new pup. There are definite pros to each option, but there is no "better" choice, just whatever works best for your family.
My other FFFC: I can't stand my dog and his jumping bean butt 90% of the time. He's lucky he's cute. Honestly, our family and work scheduling situation has shifted so drastically since we brought him home and I just wish I could give him more attention than what he's currently getting.
I can flex my hours or work from home which is nice. Hospital is between work and home so that is nice. I know I am annoyed more than anyone else and it's petty. I am trying to get a ton done before baby arrives which is the start to our busy time. My coworkers are all like BUT YOU'RE HAVING A BABY SOON! And could careless.
Also my FFFC is that I'm leaving work early today and don't even feel bad about it.
Annnddd I guess another one is that yesterday my boss apologized to me for our company not having a maternity leave policy (he was unaware, just assumed we had one), and it makes me feel less bad if I don't finish my reporting before I leave... I'm not sure why, but him apologizing, made me feel like it was ok if I ended up sticking them with extra work... oh I'm terrible, but... Sorry not sorry.
We can meet her tonight, squeeeeee! Still thinking I'm a little crazy, but she knows how to use a dog door already, so worst case we can shut them in the laundry room where the dog door is to limit destruction while we're at work.
@cmjenkies, I think the "adopt don't shop" isn't aimed so much at getting a dog from a breeder as it is at avoiding pet store puppies. Many of those come from puppy mills with such awful conditions for the dogs, especially the mamas, and often have health conditions due to irresponsible breeding. FWIW, growing up, my parents always got our dogs from breeders because they wanted to know what they were getting (labs or retrievers), and I don't see anything wrong with that.

This, totally. I've got some friends who breed Goldens, and know someone casually who breeds poodles, but they all take excellent care of their dogs, have maybe 4 breeding pairs that produce about 1 litter a year, so you know it's not a mill. They also retire their breeders after about 3-4 litters. For me, I don't really care what kind of dog I have, I just want one that gets along with me, so I've always preferred to adopt. There's no such thing as a no-kill shelter (even the ASPCA puts down "un-adoptable" dogs). My problem is that I want ALL THE DOGS. My husband has to go pick out the dog, if he doesn't want me to come home with multiples.

My unit is going to be gone for the next month but I can't participate in training because I'm huge, so I probably won't be working past lunch until they get back. I also have to do physical training in the mornings, meaning that I'll actually spend less than 3 hours each day doing my job. I don't feel even a little bad about it.
I'm still sad we didn't get a dog when we first moved into our house. I've told DH (as the one at home) I will only train one thing at a time - meaning no puppy training until the last kiddo is potty trained. Plus we just don't have enough space for the size dog he wants (Dane/Newfie), not to mention the vet bills that come with big dogs. So now we have at least 2 years and probably a new house before having a dog. But dang it responsibility, I want a dog.
Also, I'm totally leaning towards a herding dog instead of a giant. My parents have a Sheltie and she's so smart (crazy fast training) and protective/loving! I mean she's almost 16, so she's kinda a crotchety old woman now, but she was
Our dog is from a breeder. She was from a litter of 13, both of the parents first and only. Both mom and dad are registered AKC Labradors (one black, one yellow), owned by the same family. It was a bucket list item the owners had, to breed their dogs at least once. They said if the litter had maybe 8 puppies they might have done another litter or two, but with 13, they were so overwhelmed until all the pups were able to all go to their new homes. Once all the dogs were officially sold, mom was fixed lol. We momentarily considered breeding our dog, because she seriously has an amazing temperament (the doggy day care she attended briefly asked if we had her on calming medicine, because of how chill she is for a Lab), and she just turned out to be such a gorgeous dog, but we quickly changed our minds. Knowing we were going to have kids in the near future, we wanted to know our dog's history for when we had young kids in the house. In the future, we are probably going to look at rescuing younger adult Labs. DH has promised me once we have a place that can handle multiple Labs, we can have one of each color

If he's not available would you pick one of his "friends"? I love the little black one behind him. The four to the right look like they are at least part pit. I am not anti pit as I own one, but if you adopt one of them you might want to do research on pit bulls bans in your area. Some bans will just fine you but others could take the dog away.

Maybe my FFFC is that our work has $1 wear jeans on Friday that also goes to charity, but that since I'm not in the main office I wear jeans every Friday and don't pay the $1. Oops!
I was recently informed by someone that I'm apparently supposed to use PTO time for appointments, although on hire I was told not to by my boss due to my employment status and none of my coworkers do either unless it takes them out for the whole day. I am a salaried employee and I ALWAYS work above my 40 hours. Nope nope nope, until somebody of authority expressedly tells me otherwise, I refuse to claim PTO time for them.
Also, I wear leggings/yogas every day since they can pass as black pants with my boots/sweaters. Perks of being on the road and not in the office. It looks more professional than my scrubs/khakis and I would totally not dress up to go to some of the homes that I am in anyways. The life of a home health OT can be a bit messy at times.
