Breast lump

I am about 38 weeks and last night I discovered a small lump, under my skin (not visible in any way) in my right aereola directly below the nipple. It seems to have appeared out of nowhere. It feels about pea sized and is sensitive to the touch. I am of course going to bring this up to my doctor, but until then I wanted to get a read on whether anyone else has experienced something like this in current or past pregnancies? Is it normal and (possibly/hopefully) benign or is there cause for the panic and worry I'm feeling?

Re: Breast lump

  • Definitely mention it at your next appt and get it checked out.  There can be multiple causes.  But it is not uncommon to already had a blocked milk duct before baby arrives.  In the meantime, before your appt, you can look up things that you can do at home for a blocked duct or Mastitis.  www.kellymom.com is a good resource for this.  I hope that it is something simple that can be addressed easily and quickly.

  • Lumps appearing is normal due to the change in hormones in our body, however since it is sensitive to the touch definitely get it checked out. Maybe it's a clogged duct? Otherwise they can ultrasound it to see what type of tissue it is and go further from there!
  • I noticed a few small lumps early in my pregnancy. I had an ultrasound and was told that they're benign cysts. It's always scary to feel something like that, but mention it to your doctor just so they can set your mind at ease or take any necessary steps.
