Ok so I had plenty of stitches the first time around but this time I am 1 week pp and this morning when I was blotting after using my squirt bottle there was a piece of a stitch on the toilet paper. Is it too soon for my stitches to be dissolving??
My dr said about 5-7 days the stitches would be dissolving and seeing a stitch would be normal. I'd say you're ok unless youre noticing more blood or pain.

No, I barely have any bleeding at all. Good to know. I forgot to ask and I don't remember seeing stitches last time so it freaked me out a little.
I lost two in the first 4 days ....it freaked me out and I wasn't happy about it and I'm still not sure it was an ok thing to happen. My midwife said it was ok and another midwife checked them after the second one fell out and said things were normal. I have a suspicion maybe I got a bad stitch job No issues with bleeding or soreness as a result though!
How long do the stitches hurt? I'm going on 2.5 weeks and I'm still in a decent amount of pain. Much better than when I left the hospital, but sometimes I'm so sore and uncomfortable sitting or even laying down. I'm sure there is discomfort for an extended period of time, but I wasn't sure how long. It's still really painful to go #2, which sucks

It might depend on how bad the tear is? Mine was third degree, but nothing has hurt externally after about a week. I was taking my pain medicine religiously during that first week, though! #2 is still uncomfortable when I forget stool softeners, but only internally and very briefly.
It's been 4 weeks and I can STILL see my sutures. What the hell? Not to mention I feel like my doctor didn't stitch me up far enough...I feel like my vag is never gonna go back to normal
@Meg920 I had 3rd degree but the dr said it was in a good spot whatever that means. Most of my pain was gone by the end of week 1 although coughing still hurts at week 3. Could your pain be from hemroids?
@Meg920 I am 3 weeks postpartum and have "multiple second degree tears" I am still in an annoying amount of pain sometimes. My doctor told me to expect the stitches to loosen up and to be more comfortable at about 4 weeks so I'm hopeful it just needs a little longer. Im also hoping the way it looks currently isn't the finished product because it isn't looking very healed or "normal" yet
I just delivered on saturday so I don't have much input. I had some minir tears so not too bad. But I did wonder: once the stitches fall out or dissolve, do you still use the wayer bottle or are you ok to wipe normally?
*lurking from N15*. I used my peri bottle for about three weeks, and had tenderness where my second degree tear was for a few more weeks. I mainly used the water for so long because it stung when I peed (I had a small tear near my urethra as well. I was a big fan of the Earth Mama Angel Baby New Mama Bottom Spray and moist bathroom wipes. I never saw my stitches come out. 8 weeks PP I still have some minor pressure/soreness where my tear is now healed, mostly when I sit on the toilet or if I squat down.
Thank you guys! I had an episiotomy, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Doctor said I only needed one stitch. I don't think it's hemroids... I feel like it's the healing. It's just so darn uncomfortable!
Mine were finally started to feel better around the end of week 1 and then I found myself back in the hospital for a D&C to remove some placenta that had stuck around to ruin my weekend. Since waking up from that I'm back at the beginning in terms of pain and discomfort down there.
I'm two weeks PP tomorrow.. I have a 3rd degree tear, and its still pretty painful when I stand up/squat down. I have three "layers" of stitches as well, eek! Not fun, and I also just got a hemmroid as of yesterday-- any other mamas battling those?! Ugh. Just as things felt a little better down yonder, that has to happen! Lol.

Yes! I have quite the cluster of hemeroids, they are fine most of the time but after a BM I have to take a warm bath and put cream on them otherwise I want to cry it hurts so bad.
@cali1710 I had some really, and I mean really, terrible bleeding one morning and was passing huge chunks of tissue when I went to the washroom. So I went to emergency and they did an ultrasound. There it was. It was the second round of cleanup I went through after Lucy was born and I'm really hoping it was the last of it.
Those of you with hemorrhoids and tearing, how can you tell what's hemorrhoid pain and tearing pain?! I still have trouble with BMs without stool softeners and had a terrible time with constipation for a week... Which is why I think I got hemorrhoids... But now I don't know what is bleeding sometimes! I do not wanna look!!! I don't like to think about the tearing portion of birth...
@loriincar My hemorrhoid pain tends to also be an itchy, burning pain. Try not to strain when having a BM and let gravity do the work. The pain that I was feeling from where I tore was sharper and went away in a couple weeks. I have also noticed that if I strain even a little bit I have some discharge from my uterus, like the act of straining is pushing out what has been sitting in there. (Sorry kinda gross, but you asked ) If the pain is really bothering you and you have excessive bleeding definitely call your OB.
