I finally unboxed and started assembling some of our nursery furniture last night. DH wasn't feeling well, so I was on my own, but at least he dragged the heavier boxes into the room for me. Tonight, we'll tackle the dresser and changer top assembly. We still have no crib mattress or bedding or any decorations up yet. I think I'm going to wait until after our showers to do some of the decorating since we have a lot of room decor on our registry.
FINALLY finished the painting, I feel like it took forever because it was such a light color... Next is putting the crib together and putting items on the wall. Just ordered curtains and bought a fan to install (we currently just have a small light in the room). I'm finally in crunch mode!
Love it! Isn't it weird how the light colors seem to take longer than dark colors to paint?
I bought this for their room at Hobby Lobby and while it wasn't exactly our original color scheme, I loved it and had to have it. So we decided to still go with the gray walls, we are painting their dresser/changing table (which was my grandmas dresser) the same antique blue color and then will throw in white and pink accents. Right now their room just has a ton of their stuff thrown in! Hoping to get some serious progress going in there soon!
Okay, this isn't actually something that I am doing (because I have zero artistic skills whatsoever), but something that my mom is doing for the nursery, and it's the one thing I'm the most excited about. When my sister and I were kids, my mom painted our bedroom doors the same white as the trim on the walls, and then on top of that painted our names out vertically in giant letters, with little accents around it according to each of our personalities. For example, my sister was super obsessed with the Beatles and the 60s and all that, so her name was in a retro font and there were all kinds of little hippie flowers and peace signs all around it. Mine was a bit more conservative, with roses and music symbols.
For Emily, since we don't know what her personality/interests are going to be yet, we've picked out a pattern to base the design on. Her name will be in the same or a similar deep blue as in the picture, and mom is going to try to frame it in a similar floral design with the same color scheme (but much less as busy as the actual pattern is). The background won't be beige though - we're going to keep it plain white to match the trim, so it doesn't look too super out of place in the hallway.
Is a rocker/glider a need-to-have or a nice-to-have?
I am not sure if I need to be looking out for one and add it to my list?
Eeeeek I am so behind! But I've hatched a plan - I've started unpacking the cupboards in the nursery (baby has FIVE cupboards all for himself). Getting a painter in next week, and we are going shopping this weekend. I only have a crib and compactum so far and ordering my pram today...
@Charissadeats it depends on your routines. For me, it was/is a must-have. It made breastfeeding in the nursery so much more comfortable and it helped DS to get back to sleep quicker if I didn't have to take him to a different room. Now that he's weaned, we still cuddle and do story-time there before bed. I've clocked many, many hours feeding, reading, and, let's face it...sometimes sleeping in that chair. We got a rocker/recliner. It's not the prettiest thing, but it's very functional.
Another nursery with stripped walls. DH put the crib together this morning but now I need his help fixing my paint on the ceiling mistakes. I also need to find a glider and make a trip to Ikea for a dresser/ changing table before I'll feel really good about the room but this was a start.
Just need some frames for the prints over the crib but other than that I am done... Unless of course I decide to get a chair. The room is small so we might forgo one and just bring her into the living room for nighttime feedings and cuddles.
Question: I have an espresso-colored crib. It's really dark, almost black (it's not put together yet, so no pic). Would it look okay if I went with a white or grey dresser? I don't really want all dark furniture, but I also want the room to look put together.

@bshurdy I'm OCD and wanted all the furniture to match. We have all espresso and I have an old oak colored bookshelf in the nursery and currently searching for a espresso one to match because it drives me bonkers. But this is just me and my opinion. Its your nursery... decorate the way you had it mind. Maybe you can incorporate the espresso into the white/gray and vice versa. If that makes sense.

I think non-matching furniture works, but I'd try to tie the pieces together somehow so there appears to be continuity. For instance, you could try to find a dresser that is white with espresso accents, or you could do a white dresser and place dark brown wicker baskets on it and do white bedding in the crib. Our crib is white and we got a navy blue distressed dresser and are doing mainly navy and white accents in the room so it's not totally random looking.
@yogahh aw you're too sweet I love your rug and your flag banner on the window! Did you get your crib skirt from Target? I think I just bought the same one!

I am typically so laid-back, but I have been agonizing over the bedding choices for the crib like it's my job.
Do the 2 patterns/colors above go together? The grey pattern is a crib sheet, and the orange can be made into a rail guard and/or a changing pad cover. I'm wanting to incorporate foxes and a little bit of a woodland/outdoorsy theme.

I love it and definitely think you can do both patterns.
I'm super excited, I got this on sale with a matching ottoman. It should be here on Wednesday. We get keys to our new house tomorrow and will start moving in next weekend. My first priority is to get the nursery settled!
As much as I hated this room before because if it's awkwardness, I'm loving how the nursery is coming together! We assembled the crib last night and I received the curtains in the mail from my sister yesterday (she turned them from a fabric shower curtain into two panels with the curtain rod loop) so it's really starting to feel like a cozy little nursery rather than a cluttered storage space. All that's really left to do is add the artwork (we have a few artist friends that are making custom pieces) and organize the closets/storage.
Her room is still a disaster zone, tomorrow hopefully it'll get cleared out and then use the Monday holiday to paint the furniture. But a couple etsy finds came in today! The frames for the paintings will be painted gold and then there's a bird and a frog one like those on their way. So excited with how the paintings and mobile came out that now I really just want to get her nursery put together!

Can you tell me the etsy shop that you got the cat in tutu print from??
Any advice ladies? We have some artwork above the crib (probably going to move it further to the left yet to fit in the glider when we get it. I was going to get some decal birch trees and I'm unsure how many to get. I don't want the room to look too cluttered since it's so small. I feel like I have so much blank wall space though! I was thinking 1 tree on either side of the artwork and then maybe adding baby's name above the artwork since our walls are tall and then some more trees on the wall to the right of it next to my closet. My mom is making a large cross stitch birth sampler which will go above the diaper changer (desk) and next to the fox clock & owl will go paintings by my sister and sister-in-law.
We're going to re-purpose my dad's old desk as the diaper changer, but I have to sand and stain it yet. I got cute twig looking drawer pulls for it. If I have energy I'm going to re-finish the armoire too to a darker finish.I'm planning on making a crib skirt & curtains yet and I'm thinking a bright orange might look good. Right now I have dark brown curtains that match the rest of the house.. but I think it needs to be a bit more playful.
More wall art for baby girl's room! We have one wall left that needs something then the nursery is pretty much complete with the exception of a few things. -- For those wondering this is a puzzle glued together and mounted on foam core that we used a knife to cut down to match the shape of the puzzle.
I forgot to take pictures of the before but it was a spare bedroom with a daybed and LOTS of crap everywhere. We pretty much finished it last week as DH was on vacation. He built the bookshelves in a day! We still have a few things to hang: the mobile, her initial ( a diy project) and to permanently put on the starfish decals.
Where did you get your chair? It's exactly what I've been looking for!
UGH! I wish I had more done. These rooms look so great everyone! I still have a half cluttered room with nothing baby-esque but a bare cot and bassinet. I am really falling behind. I guess the plus side is that baby will be in the bassinet in our room for the first few months so it's not the end of the world if her room is a bit bare still.
