I took a fall and ended up in the hospital!

Hi ladies, have any of you had a fall during your pregnancy?  I never thought it would happen to me. I fell at work on our slick polished floors. Luckily I fell as I was walking into a carpeted conference room and as if it was happening in slow motion I braced myself with my left knee and left arm. I didn't fall on the baby, thank goodness!!!  The doctor told me to go to labor and delivery at the hospital because they wanted to monitor me. I felt the baby moving and didn't feel hurt except for a skinned knee so I thought all had to be ok. But they said the placenta could move and rupture which is something that needed to be looked at also. I was in the hospital for 4 hours. They monitored the heart beat and I had an ultrasound. All checked out ok!!! I got so lucky. I did find out I am 2cm dialated!!!    I am 39 weeks tomorrow. Anyway be careful ladies I am hearing so many stories about falling.

  • How scary! I live in Utah and we've had tons of snow and below freezing temps. There is ice EVERYWHERE!! This is my seriously greatest fear right now.

I'm glad you are ok though. Take it easy tonight!

  • Oh man that is scary I'm glad you are okay and baby is okay.
  • No experience in this but glad to hear you and baby are okay! That's got to be scary.

Glad to hear you and the LO are fine! My mom fell when she was 37 weeks with me and that ler to her going into labor. Really worried about the ice here in Montana both during this pregnancy and when I'll be toting my LO around. I'm from the south, I'm not used to all this winter stuff.
  • Ouch! Glad everything's okay - hope you aren't too sore tomorrow:(

  • Glad to hear you're okay! I actually fell down the stairs about a week before I gave birth, I was holding my daughter and then slid down on my butt. I didn't even think about any possible issues since i didn't touch my bump, good to know and raise awareness though! It's also getting icy with the melting and refreezing here!
  • I fell twice last weekend! Once on my tailbone and once on my knees. Baby was still very active, they monitored me, and did an internal check.

  • Ouch! I'm glad that you and baby are ok. I'm trying to be more cautious the bigger and more uncoordinated I get but its hard, thanks for the reminder to be extra careful!
  • Glad you and your LO are ok! I slipped on the stairs but caught myself way early on in my pregnancy and it made me extra cautious from then on (not that I wasn't trying to be before). Tricky when it's icy out though! Or when floors are extra slippery!
  • I have fallen 3 times during this pregnancy-- you are not alone. Between the heavy abdomen, not being able to see my feet, and being naturally clumsy to begin with, it's been a recipe for disaster. Hang in there, and try to be extra cautious!
