TWTuesday!!

Happy Tuesday!  Who/what is a thorn in your @$$?

As of yet the only thing I've got is my heartburn, which kept me up half the night.  However, I'm running a hearing this afternoon for someone who is appealing their termination, so changes are I'll be back later with fresh material :D

  • My TW is our realtor. She has really been pissing us off for a while because she doesn't listen when we tell her how much we want to spend and what payment amount we are comfortable with. She insisted we go see houses way out of our price range and we could always talk the sellers down. She took us to a house we both loved that we can't afford and refuses to offer less. WTF WOMAN?! Then we found a house we want to put an offer on and she is being a total bitch about us wanting to offer $19,000 less than the listing price. We obviously don't expect them to accept, but to counter offer and we can go from there! That's why people offer less, because they expect a counter offer. That's how it works. She is a realtor, she should know this.

I sent her a nasty e-mail this morning saying I really don't appreciate her tone and attitude toward us. She is our realtor and should be our side, not sticking up for the sellers. It makes me think she is somehow associated with the sellers, which she is required to disclose! I would feel slightly bad (and probably have offered more) if the sellers were individuals, but they aren't. It's a corporation that bought it at a low price, quickly fixed it up, and is selling it at a profit. I audit people who do this, I know how it works. So she is the TW and I wish it wasn't too late to switch realtors.

If you are working with a company rather than an independent realtor, can you request a new realtor?  We hav moved three times in the past two years, and we were lucky enough to find a decent realtor.  I can't imagine the horror you are going through, especially pregnant!
  • My TW is the credit card machine company we are working with for our car wash business.  We purchased the business in December and found out the credit card machine the previous owner had was not PCI-compliant, and we had to purchase a $2k machine.  It took over a month to be delivered, and we were told it was "plug and play" and we could easily install it ourselves.  DH spent 6 hours with an electrician last week and couldn't get it installed, and we finally contacted the CC machine company who referred us to a technician.  He spent two days with DH only to find out we were sent faulty equipment.  So, we were able to accept cash prior to the new machine being installed, and now we can't accept any payment.  The rep from the CC company basically said we should never have done it ourselves, that they give "half-way decent" instructions (his words exactly) and technician (who is not affiliated with the CC company) would be giving us compensation.  Or in essence, it's not their fault but ours.  And now we are waiting for a new machine, and we are due for a massive snowstorm today and tomorrow.

Also a TW: my computer, which made me waste 15 minutes typing this because it keeps missing letters and making me retype.

  • Today my TW is this rain!! I finally like the way my hair looks down (which is rare since I have really curly hair but can't stand when all of my curls don't look the same) and it's so windy and rainy here that it won't last long and it will be back up in a messy bun :( also, I have a technician who is socially challenged to say the least, but he asked me if I was having a bad hair day and that's why I decided to leave my hair down... Wth is that about ?! Everyone else asked me why I don't wear it down more often because it looks so nice. So he is also a TW today
  • Ugh my coworkers... They are loudly arguing in cubicle land and its really annoying. Ugh, only 1 more hour today!
  • My coworker is a TW. I work in an office made up mainly of family (elderly aunts, father, etc) and in general, they all piss me off constantly because they are ignorant, mean-spirited, and obnoxious. One of the only people here who isn't related to me is my least favorite. Aside from him calling me "Prego" last week, as in "Excuse me, Prego," he walked by my computer yesterday and there happened to be a picture of a mango on the screen. He loudly goes "hah, even looking at food on your computer?!"

    Not necessary, Jim. Go away.

  • My brother's fiance. Who wants my family and her family to chip in to buy my brother a PS4 plus 2 controllers for his birthday. But they can't afford to live on their own.

Buying a house is stressful enough without having a difficult realtor! I wish you luck in dealing with her.

Yeah, she's a true TW.  Priorities much??
  • @mrstmoose that sounds about right! Hey lets chip in and buy something not practical instead of let's say saving money to get our own place! I think getting a smaller gift and saving the extra would be better because it is his birthday so he should get something but if you can't afford to live on your own why waste $3/400 on something like that?
  • Luckily I cannot think of a TW for this Tuesday... I can always resort to my co-worker. But she's a twat waffle every day.

In fear that I've jinxed myself.... I may be back later to update this. -_-

  • I knew I spoke too soon!!!

My TW was whoevers decision it was to shut off the entire water in this whole building where I work because a toilet was leaking. I'm pregnant here! Do you not realize how often I have to pee?! Wtf....
  • Holy crap, seems like everyone is having a bad week! Sorry you're going through that! Mine seems so lame in comparison.....

My TW is people who knowingly cut in line. Some lady walked right around me and up to the register at Starbucks; thank God the cashier told her to get in line. Of course she tried to play it off like she didn't know, but seriously, did she think I just like standing near registers for fun?

  • I actually have a Twatwaffle this week.

Backstory: we moved into our house five years ago, and officially bought it last year (it belonged to my in-laws at first). The neighborhood is mostly pretty nice - middle class suburban, and a lot of us keep in contact with each other via the Nextdoor app and share info about garage sales, local events, etc. So it's not too bad.

Except for for the house next door to us.

When we moved in, it was occupied by this lady who had inherited the house from her mom. For the most part, she *seemed* nice...but the guys she dated weren't. I think within that first year we lived in that neighborhood, there were at least three different 911 calls to that place, due to something the guys she was seeing did (usually something due to drugs or someone they knew who did drugs who was harassing them or something), and with each new guy the situation just seemed to escalate. The last incident was a couple of years ago, when the entire neighborhood had to evacuate for several hours into the night because the guy she was seeing skipped a parole meeting or something and had barricaded himself inside the house. Yeah, that was fun when we finally were allowed to come home and the SWAT team was still set up in my backyard.

After that, she eventually filed for bankruptcy and put the house up for sale and is supposedly somewhere in Florida now. Some guy and his wife bought the house at super cheap (because my neighbor had ruined the interior), fixed it up, and sold it to a family who moved in about six months ago.

    Guess what happened this weekend?

Another standoff situation with the police, with a neighborhood sweep and evacuation. Same house, different people.

I don't know what it is with that house, but if we could afford to move right now I'd do it in a heartbeat.
WTH?!  I don't even know what kind of response to give you to that kind of situation!  Are you looking to move anytime soon, or just wish you had the money to do so?
  • My TWOTW is a fellow faculty member of mine. WE are on a committee together that meets once a week. He's the chair and has this reputation for "bulldozing" people. But on this committee he's been pretty good about working with others. Every week he's been taking everyone's ideas and incorporating them into our project. He's been doing a lot of work in preparation for our collective presentation to the faculty. Well, the last few weeks I've noticed that he's suddenly just "adding" things to the proposal that serve his interests. It's like he strategically earned our trust and is now using it against us! Next meeting is at 4 and some $hit is going to go down!

  • @rlworzalla and @Maybaby0519 - she's a moron. She's also the person who said that after we have LO, she'll just "stop by whenever" to hold the baby. I told her no. She thought I was joking. But then I told her I wouldn't answer the door if she just "showed up." Idiot.

  • My TW this week and every week is my mother-in-law, who personifies each and every negative MIL stereotype there is. And whenever she gets caught in a lie or is obviously causing trouble, she cries. What son -- even one trying hard to stick up for his wife -- wants to make his mother cry?

Well, if she somehow gets that game system, maybe you can "stop by whenever" to play on it?  I don't get how some people think they have logic...

  • The vet. My dog has had a UTI for over a month. They prescribed her 10 days of antibiotics initially, then at her follow up when they still found large amounts of white blood cells in her urine, gave her another 14 days on the SAME EXACT ANTIBIOTIC! Today is day 30 and I just left the vet who, you guessed it, gave her yet another 14 day supply of the same damn antibiotic. MY brain tells me that whatever bacteria she's got in that tiny bladder of hers is resistant to this antibiotic, so why the hell are you giving her more of the same damn thing?! They want to see us back on Friday so they can check her urine while ON the antibiotic and get an X-ray of her bladder to check for stones or crystals. She's 5 months old, it's highly unlikely it's stones or crystals, just give her a different antibiotic! $70 per visit just for a check and more meds. You know how hard it is for a pregnant lady to get a urine sample from a 5 month old puppy, drop her husband off at work at 5 am so she can have the car, drag the puppy into the vet, and then have to do it times a bagillion for the same problem?! It's hard! Twat waffle rant over....until Friday
  • @Merciel I understand your frustration! I'm in-house counsel, so I never see the inside of a courtroom. My work attire consists of business casual dresses, dress slacks, blazers, etc., but generally not suits. I used to do civil litigation where I was in the courtroom 3-4 days a week, and I still have a whole closet full of suits (none of which fit right now). When I had to give a presentation for a CLE at my alma mater about two weeks ago, I realized at the last minute I didn't have a suit that fit. I ended up wearing a solid black maternity dress with a gray patterned suit jacket (that didn't button but didn't look too small when worn open). It wasn't ideal (and luckily the CLE wasn't televised), but I was able to avoid going to the store to buy a maternity suit for what will likely be the only time I'll need it. If it's just a motion to withdraw hearing, I wouldn't sweat it!
  • Yeah, not only is it a motion to withdraw hearing, but it's being done partly via videoconference because defendant is locked up in maximum security prison for life after, uh, some number of homicides greater than one.

So it's really not worth stressing over, it just makes me cranky. I can go years -- literally years! -- without having to haul my butt to court, and then of course the one time I have to do it and it's not even for anything, I'm six+ months pregnant. Wheehaw.

@rlworzalla We're not looking to move anytime soon, mostly because it's not feasible financially speaking right now. I'm just wishing we could. :/ Also, this is the house DH grew up in - they moved to a bigger house when he was in high school and rented this one out for years, but he still has a particular attachment to this place. So we'll be here for at least a few more years, until we've saved up a bit and can buy land to build on.

I didn't initially want to buy it in the first place - the original neighbor was still next door, and I'd rather make mortgage payments on a house that didn't need quite as much work as this one does - but we got a really good deal on it and it's a good starter home, and at the time we weren't planning on having kids.

This area really isn't that bad - we're good friends with the neighbor across the street, who just had a daughter who will be close in age to mine, and most of us in the neighborhood look out for each other and know whose pets belong to who and are quick to help out with just about anything. It's just that one house. Right next door to ours.

  • My TW is my lying boss. She told a manager that the "team" had made a decision that was causing conflict. Well the team includes me and several other people that had no input at all. So I'm being asked for documentation that doesn't exist. I will not lie for her. This is the second bunch of lies I've caught her in in the past 7 days. All to make herself Iook good and screw anyone else involved. I don't know that I can make 14 more weeks. And then she schedules this screening for an interview, takes 30min, as if I had nothing else to do today. I get crazy looks when I say I'm in a meeting that is scheduled for the same time every week. Tells me to cut it short. Ugh! I have a job dammit!
  • @merciel welcome to my daily struggle! I am in court at least 3 times a week.  There isn't a surplus in the maternity suit market, and every day I just have such a hard time dressing myself. I always feel appropriate with black maternity dress pants, a plain colored maternity shirt, and a black pre-pregnancy blazer unbuttoned (duh). Good luck!  No one will judge, but EVERYONE will stare. All day, every day, comments about my belly. Which leads me to my TW - the defense attorney who has commented about my body twice this week.. and it's only Tuesday. Today's comment: "you look nice today, I saw you from the back"

  • My TW today is our county's public school zoning board. I found out when doing some research last night that our address is zoned for a different elementary school than I thought it was. We weren't planning on having kids when we bought the house a few years ago, and it's in a really nice middle class neighborhood, so I hadn't given it much thought until recently. Not to sound like an elitist snob, but the school we're zoned for is in a lower income neighborhood across the highway from us, and there's no way I will be sending my kid there. According to the school board's website, you can petition to have your zone changed if you live close enough to one of the zoning lines and are willing to pick up/drop off your kid since the buses only run to the zoned school. Since we are literally one street away from being zoned for the school I thought we were (which is highly rated and in a good neighborhood), and it is on my way to work, hopefully we'll be able to get it changed.

I know it's still 5+ years away, and a lot can change between now and then (they could always redraw the lines, we could move, etc.), but I'm still kind of upset about it. If we are still living in our current house by that point and can't get our zone changed, I guess we'll be going the private school route, which we weren't planning to do until high school.  :/

    WHAT THE ?????????/

WTF!? That's crazy! I'd start documenting the comments in case you decide to file a bar complaint. We have a local grievance board in our district where you can report behaviors that may not quite rise to the level of a bar violation but are inappropriate/offensive. Several local attorneys sit on the board and reprimand those types of behaviors (they have no real authority, but they contact the offenders and explain to them why their behavior is inappropriate and warn them that it will result in a bar complaint if it continues). I had to make a complaint to the board once early on in my career when opposing counsel resorted to sexist harassment when the case didn't go his way. Depending on the type of law you practice, it's one thing to have clients or opposing parties making offensive comments, but to have another member of the bar behave that way is unacceptable.
  • IME that's pretty par for the course when it comes to older male defense attorneys. I still haven't decided if it's a psych game or they're just sexist dinosaurs (then again, who says it can't be both?).

I have a pretty dim view of defense attorneys for a lot of reasons though, so maybe take that with a grain of salt.

That seems to be the trend I've experienced with older male attorneys on the civil side as well. I can't tell you how many times I've dealt with opposing counsel old enough to be my grandfather who thinks it's perfectly acceptable to call me "honey" or "dear" or treat me like his assistant. I was holding a deposition at my office once, and before we started this attorney handed me a stack of papers and asked me to make copies for him. I just gave him a blank stare and told him I'd have to see if my assistant had time to deal with it. I had another tell me, "Sweetie, I've been doing this since you were in diapers." Really!? Maybe it is a psych game or maybe they are just that clueless (there weren't that many female attorneys when most of them started practicing). Either way, it's hard to keep your cool and remain professional when they act like that sometimes. I'm glad I don't have to litigate any cases pregnant and have to deal with the personal body comments in court. Most of my contact with opposing counsel these days is by telephone or email, so they have no idea what I look like or that I'm pregnant.
  • I actually think it's sort of fun when they do that, mostly because it then just becomes that much more satisfying to demolish them.

At least our house buying is finally going well! We reached an agreement with the sellers. Close later this month.
@AdorkablePixie I would switch realtors now. And I totally peed in a broken toilet while house hunting.
