Bath Time

How often is everyone giving their LO's baths? Also, are you doing sponge baths, or getting them in the baby tub (or sink, etc) for the baths? I'd love to hear what everyone's process is for this. My little guy is barely coming around to baths...he isn't screaming anymore but he isn't happy either.

Re: Bath Time

  • Probably every other day or as needed. My LO loves bath time. We give him a bath in a baby bath tub for about 5-10min
  • Loading the player...
  • I give my LO a bath every other night. She loves her baby bath. I put it in the kitchen sink and leave the plug out. I leave the tap on and let it run on her feet. She doesn't fuss at all when I do this and they seem to help soothe her to sleep for the night which is a big plus for mommy!
  • Sunday and Wednesday is bath day with baths in between if he has a blow out, throws up on himself ect. We use a baby tub, he has never complained about baths. It takes about 5 minutes from the time I put him in to drying him off.
  • I usually try to give DD a full bath about every three days unless she needs it more often. We have an infant tub we got with DS that has a sling I use with her then take it out for him. Also sometimes I've started bathing a bath with her. I usually start out holding her and wash her then hubby takes her so I  can bathe. DS usually needs baths daily so I'm honestly trying to cut corners where I can.
  • The hospital told us 1-2 times a week so that's what we do unless she needs one in between that.
Most often I sit her in the bouncer while I do my bathing and then grab her and bathe her in the shower with me. Sometimes I put her in the infant tub- mine has a sling but I don't use it anymore and line it with a towel instead.
She loves the shower or bath but HATES getting dried and dressed afterwards so we only do them in the morning because it ends up waking her up.
  • We give a bath every night in the baby tub. It's part of our bedtime routine.

  • Every day but that's only because he is so happy in his bath! If he hated them probably twice a week
  • Harrison hates baths but we shower every night. It's the only surefire way to calm him down during hi crying fits every night. It's become part of our bedtime routine.
  • we have been doing baths 5x a week, but we don't use soap because DD has a really bad diaper rash. We use baking soda water on her bum and I use warm water every where else. She's calm if DH holds her while we wash her. I've also gotten in the tub with her. That's actually pretty fun to let her float, but she also HATES being dried off, the lotion massage, and getting dressed. The boob is the ONLY thing that calms her down after. If we could give her fewer baths, we would!!
  • Jackson hates bath time so it's twice a week for us.

This. I put olive in the water every night but only use soap a couple of times a week.

The bath calms her and she loves the water. I have considered showering with her but I can't handle water that isn't hot so I'm afraid of burning her. We'll see..
  • We have a bath every night in her baby tub. Dakota loves bath time!!!

My son loves bath time! He usually gets one about 2-3 times per week or more often if he needs it. Usually do it in the evening before bed cause it helps him relax

ETA - we use an baby tub that has a sling
  • We have been doing every 3rd day.  We have an infant tub and then also bought that sunflower that fits into the sink.  We use it right in his infant tub, because he's still too small to fit onto the support seat that came with it.  We LOVE having the flower and DS is starting to get used to taking a bath now.  We have to prepare bath time down to every detail though, because the chances of him not crying during bath time are pretty slim, and we maybe get 5-10 minutes max of bath time before he has reached his limit.
  • bath is part of our night time routine. Every night he gets a shower/bath in the baby bath. He hated being put in the water so now we use the shower to spray him and fill the tub. Once he has water in the tub we turn it off and bathe him. We only use soap every other night and wash hair every third day.
  • We give one about twice a week, sometimes once a week. We use the baby tub with the sling. As long as his butt is in the water or put a warm wet washcloth on his tummy, he's ok with it. We have this tub that we got when we had DD:

  • It's also part of our nightly routine. We use a spa bath tub. He doesn't love it but no longer cries. I look forward to the day he enjoys it while playing with toys and bubbles

Every night as part of bedtime routine. Sophie LOVES baths! Breastfeed on one side, bath (soap only a few times a week), clean dipe & comfy jams, wrap in halo sleep swaddle, breastfeed on the other side, put her down in co sleeper with white noise on. She usually sleeps 3-7 hours for the first stretch. ☺️
  • It was every night..now it is every other night. DD loves bathtime now

I do my shower first with her in the bouncer so I can have the water hot as long as I like and then just turn it down when I bring her in. If someone else is around I do it the other way because it's a lot easier for someone who's not dripping wet to dry her off and dress her.
  • We do twice a week but more if she has a blowout. I use a baby tub with the newborn sling but looks like she may soon outgrow it. DH helps me by constantly pouring warm water over her while I wipe her down with a soapy washcloth. Luckily she has never cried.
  • We do bath time about 2-3 times a week. DS absolutely loves being in his tub. He just chills out and smiles and giggles the whole time. However when we take him out no matter how quickly he is wrapped up in a warm towel he screams his head off. DH and I work as a team to get him dried, lotioned, diapered, and dressed as quickly as possible because he screams bloody murder the whole time until he is on the boob and then he nurses to sleep. I wish we could do a bath every night because the water calms him down so much and he enjoys it...but I can't handle the aftermath every night.

@chewie5990 DD does the same thing! When we gave her a bath on Sunday,  I tried having two towels ready so that she could be extra warm and snuggly, and she did not complain too much. I wrapped her normally with the first towel, then quickly wrapped a second one from the front. Then,  when I was putting on lotion,  I kept the second towel draped over wherever I wasn't rubbing in the lotion. She was very content!
  • We had a major breakthrough last night! My baby HATES being naked and bath time was awful - so much screaming - so we were only doing twice a week. Last night she stopped crying for half of bath time and she seemed to actually enjoy it! She is always so calm and happy after the bath so we may try to do it more often now that she is learning to like it.
  • If Jonathan would get his way, he'd LIVE in the bathtub :-)
Since it's not that good for baby's skin, bathtime is about 3 days a week.
  • I do every 3 days and she loves being submerged. I have a flower bloom sponge that goes in my bathtub, she lays on the flower or at least lays her head on the flower, but she prefers her body submerged and kicks and literally looks like she's trying to swim. It's her favorite. Future Olympic swimmer here. She cries when I take her out of the water.
  • My little guy is colicky and loves baths so we do them often( daily or every other)as a soother. But I only use wash every couple or just around his neck and bum. And I still moisturise after.
  • We do baths every 2-3 days and DD loves everything about it until we take her out, then it's a full out screaming fit. We try to be quick with the towel and the new clothes, but no luck. So the bath is relaxing to her, but the coming out undoes all the good work, lol.

we use the 4Moms tub in the kitchen sink. It's so nice, it has a built in thermometer and two compartments to bring in clean water and filter out dirty.

  • Something I do is dry off his head completely before I take him out then he doesn't freak out
  • We are bathing her every few days, sometimes with no soap to keep her skin from getting too dry. I put her directly in the tub in an inch or two of water with a towel under her head for traction and let her go to town kicking and having a ball. She loves it.
  • We actually just finished up with a bath. Leo is learning that baths aren't terrible so that is nice. We do baths tuesdays and saturdays. I have a baby tub with a newborn sling.
