Weekly Randoms 1/31/16

I figured I'd start this since the other one has been quiet and I didn't want to add an extra thread just for one question...
We want to order a University of Tennessee onesie for an annoucement picture and also want the baby to be able to wear it during football season. We can't decide if we should get 0-3 mo or 3-6 mo. I was a 6.5lb baby and DH was 7lb 11oz, so I'm thinking *hoping* that we'll have a baby somewhere in that range. I know there is no way to know but... any suggestions?!

Re: Weekly Randoms 1/31/16

  • My DD was 8lbs 8ozs and she was in 0-3 month clothes for a while, onesies also fit for longer than some other clothes do, in my opinion. I think you'd be safe getting 0-3 months.
  • Loading the player...
  • If you have the means, get both! We ended up getting multiple sizes of a few of our favorite outfits for DS.
  • A normal 0-3 would probably work but the sports onsies I've bought have always run small (I've gotten 2 or 3 from different brands/teams), I think the non-children's clothes brands tend to make them this way. I would probably buy the size up, although buying both (if they're cheap) is good too because the baby will probably change sizes over the course of the season.

  • Unless your baby is like 9-10 lbs 0-3 should fit for awhile. My DD was born at 7 lbs 11 oz and wore 0-3 from mid July-September/October. Sizes between brands vary greatly!!

My random: I've been sitting on the couch on my phone for almost an hour. I could have gone back to sleep, or done something productive.

My phone was stolen yesterday, so we traced it by using the "find my iPhone app," called the police, and an officer went and got it. That being said, because we ended up staying so late, DD stayed with my mom. I'm feeling so lost without her!!  :'(
  • Agree that sport onesies run on the smaller size.

Yay for doctors appointments! Blood work and a papsmear. I'm almost 12 weeks so I hope they'll try to get the heartbeat on the Doppler!

edited because words are hard and it's Monday.
  • I am not currently living in the US. I live in the Middle East and had my first doctors appt. at 8 weeks. It only lasted about 15 minutes which was surprising to me. She did a medical history, ultrasound, blood work, and urine sample. But now after talking to some people and reading things on here I realized she didn't do any type of physical exam. When I asked one friend here about a physical exam she literally said, "oh no, they can't do anything down there, the baby might fall out." You should have seen my face. So I started to ask other women I work with who've had babies here other questions like about the NT scan, glucose test, etc.
Apparently these tests aren't really done here unless you go to a clinic, but I've been going to the private hospital. I'm going to the doctor on Saturday and will ask about it. I just didn't realize certain things that I would consider standard, aren't. I guess I will just have to do my research to make sure I'm getting everything I need.

My interview is today! Wish me luck. I am happy to have the interview to keep me occupied while I wait for my NT scan Friday. I feel like this is going to be a long week.
    Good luck!!!

  • @huskymama725 Oh gosh, I was hoping it wouldn't take after the mom's. I was a really big baby at 10.5 lbs.
  • @DressageDarling eh, take it with a grain of salt. I was 9 lbs 8 oz, DD was 7 lbs 11oz.
  • @MSUgrad12 Hope your interview goes well!

I'm going to be out of the first trimester this week so we plan on announcing to everyone this weekend. My birthday is also early next week. I thought about putting candles on my cake to spell out "Baby" instead of 26 and then saying something like, "My wish this year already came true." Is this too corny?? I'm starting to feel like it's corny.
  • @DressageDarling I really think it depends. One of my cousins (who is petite and was a small baby) had 2 big babies (>9lbs) because her husband is a really big guy. I definitely think it varies.

  • @MSUgrad12 I say go for it. It sounds cute!
  • @alyssajrob22 I don't think it's corny, it's cute and different! :)

michelle_shelle would you mind sharing what program/website you used to make this? It's really cute!
  • Baby is due early August, and I'll be going back to work early November. We're already on the wait list for 3 infant daycares in Austin, Texas... this is kind of nuts!!
  • I'm in my families of children with disabilities class and everyone is presenting their disabilities pamphlet. We just went through Rett's and Down Syndrome. Ugh. I really want to leave. The professor is now talking about how cerebral palsy can occur during birth...

  • One of my great college friends, who also was a roommate for a few years after college, told me today that she was pregnant!! She found out Saturday.
I am over the moon excited to have someone else going thru this with me that is such a close friend. :-)
34 Mother of 4 year old and 2 Labs. Happily Married to my Hubs of 6 years.
  • @Snaps816 I actually made it with a picture I took on my phone e and than edit on pic monkey. I'm more than willing to help you. If you even want to send me the pic via email and what you want on it I can more than likely do it for you.
  • @michelle_shelle I used pic monkey to make my daughters birthday invitation! It's super easy to use. I love that announcement, super cute!
  • Thanks! I don't even have a pic yet, but I really appreciate the offer. We have a few more weeks before we announce.
  • Snow day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • While sitting here, my uterus finally felt pregnant... Like internally, which, is weird, but I am so excited!
  • While we were / are on vacation this week. We had a house sitter, and also had the nursery painted a neutral color. While still on vacation we found out the gender and I'm now second guessing the paint color.  We go home tomorrow and I can decide if it needs to get repainted.

I dare any pregnant lady to watch this ad and not cry (it's really great, though). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82VX9JGSxTU
  • I'm going to a wedding today. I tried on every dress in my closet and my sisters before I found 1 dress that makes me look pregnant and not just fat. I'm pretty excited to go, we were pretty close friends in high school, not so much anymore. But, their wedding is at a Pentecostal church(if you know anything about it, it's a strict religion) so there will only be 3 dances allowed, father daughter, son mother, and the bride and grooms first dance. I was raised in a variation of Pentecostal so I know how it is, which is why I was not married in one of their churches and also why DH and I no longer go to our childhood church.

I shared this picture on my DH's Facebook and my grandma commented in typical anti-gun grandma fashion and said "not when my great-grand baby arrives." I think I deleted it before anyone saw. I text and fb messaged her "haven't announced on fb yet! Shhh!"

    jeez

  • @msugrad12 ... actually, for my husband's family, that picture isn't far off. He's from Montana. Add another egg, more butter on the toast...

  • @MSUgrad12 my mom did a similar thing with a picture I posted of DS sleeping with a baby doll, making a comment about how he's getting ready for a sibling. I don't think anyone saw it, but I had to remind her that my family knowing and all of social media knowing are 2 different things!

We started telling family this weekend. On Friday I actually went through and changed my settings on Facebook so people couldn't write on my wall! I don't post a lot anymore, so I'm hoping that will help with any unwanted postings until we are ready to share!

  • @tmk0325  with my first, we changed the wall setting. Someone actually commented on a post of a picture of freaking snow about how awesome it was and congrats. We deleted it. It was a friend of DH's mom. I was pissed.

Then, when I was in labor, my MIL posted it on fb. So DH asked her to take it down.

Then, immediately after she was born his aunt posted it on fb so he asked her to take it down.

People suck. Hope you have better luck!!
