@AmadorRose (and other moms considering) Splurge and treat yourself to a cleaning service! We made some serious financial cuts to make room in the budget for baby but our every 2 weeks cleaning service was one that I insisted on keeping. While we can totally keep up the house for the space in between, with 2 cats and 2 dogs and soon to be 3 humans, it's just really nice to have a deep cleaning every few weeks. Plus, it really motivates you to keep the house picked up for the 1st week after they come and then you have to straighten everything again just before they come again so they can really get in there and clean... that leaves on a few days where our house can get really out of control I intend to have the one small room we have with carpet deep cleaned before LO arrives too Good luck! Check out Angies list references if you're able... they often have great coupons... Groupon as well!
Finish cleaning our room and future nursery. (2/13)
Paint nursery (2/17)
Choose pediatrician (2/12)
Make at least 30 freezer meals for after baby (3/20)
Attend childbirth classes (2/20-2/21)
Tour hospital (2/22)
Register at hospital (2/22)
Attend baby shower (2/27)
Do something really special for DH's actual birthday this year (2/29)
Buy stuff I didn't get at baby shower (3/1)
Purchase life insurance and write a will (3/15)
Wash all of LO's stuff and store it in nursery (3/15)
Install car seat and get it inspected (3/19)
Turn in notice at work (3/19)
Pack bags for hospital (3/22)
It's worth noting that when I tried to do some cleaning on Monday, I got very dizzy so DH insisted he do it all from now on. No complaints, except how much reminding it's going to take, but still I get to lay down and watch the house get cleaned!

Just a note that may have already been stated but if you're driving around with the carseat in the car and you have an accident it will need to be replaced.

I know this is the case for the actual seat... what about the base for infant car seats? I don't plan on installing it for a while either way (I don't trust either of us or this winter weather), but if I could get the whole shebang put in a few weeks early, have it inspected, and leave the base in until baby gets here, that'd be pretty ideal.
Installing a car seat takes less than 5 minutes. You can literally do it the day you come home from the hospital, NBD.
Also, the idea of somebody else cleaning my house horrifies me. I don't know how you people do that. I don't have particularly nice things and I'm not worried about getting robbed, just the idea of paying someone else to take care of *my* mess? Ew. No.

I'll probably pre-clean the house (at the very least, I'll pick up) before the cleaner actually gets here, but I will happily pay somebody else to clean the inside of my oven and dust the top of the ceiling fan blades. I didn't touch those places, the fact that they're dirty is not my fault, and I don't want to deal with it.

This. Plus, I'm really particular about the way things are cleaned and I don't want to take a week off of work to have the house clean to my standard. A coworker suggested I follow DH around and instruct him on axactly what needs to be done but I know he won't do things to my standard. I'd rather pay someone than get into an argument over it and frankly, my house stays pretty darn clean. It's the spring cleaning stuff like wiping out vents and scrubbing the tracks of the sliding door that I'm just not up to.
Also, I rarely spend money on myself and I'm sure that habit will just become more engrained when I have a LO to buy things for, so it's like my last hurrah.
For those of you asking about the infant base, you *can* keep it in the car, but it would still need replacing after an accident even if the car seat isn't in there in the base. On the plus side, the bases tend to be less expensive than the entire seat, and you can use the seat without the base if needed.
@Knottie9983816 I'm a CD mama too! Did it from about 4 weeks through being potty trained with DD1 and will do so again with this LO (hopefully starting as soon as we get home from the hospital). Don't hesitate to shoot me a message if you need any tips or help! It's really easy once you get going!
I bought a pack of flour sack towels. Could I feasibly fold them with and insert and use that as a diaper? I don't see why I would need an additional cover over it that way... Just for newborn diapering mind you. I am amassing a collection of rumparoos and flips for when he's larger
We got a lot done this weekend. We rearranged our room so that the bassinet will fit better. We put a huge dent in Mount Laundry. SO painted the last piece of furniture that is going in baby's room as well as the peg board changing station that my dad made us. He also took a truckload to the Goodwill yesterday AND made a trip to the dump! woohoo! Gettin' shit done!
Eta: I also sterilized a handful of bottles and as well as a few pacifiers!
If I start right now (which I can't yet because I'm banned from my apartment while they spray for bugs), what would I still have left to do? Basically everything. If I actually make it to the due date, which I've had little faith in from the very beginning, I will have 8 weeks and some odd days to build the nursery, make freezer meals, pack a hospital bag, pack an emergency kit, etc. Literally everything on the 3rd trimester to-dos listed on The Bump is incomplete.
I was thinking of doing a trial car seat install, having it checked, then taking it back out. That way we know we can do it properly when needed.
@AK118, that's what I'm planning on doing. We got the Nextfit, which is supposed to be super easy to install (especially with LATCH). So, as long as we get the straps and recline adjusted properly ahead of time, it shouldn't be a big deal to put it back in the car once I start having contractions, or for DH to go pick it up from home if I should need to go directly to the hospital from somewhere else.
*Clean the house *Clean the house *Clean the house *Finish all the laundry *Finish all the laundry *Finish all the laundry
*Rearrange our bedroom to accommodate bassinet (which is dependent on cleaning the house and finishing the laundry because our room is a hot mess these days.)
Yea. Motivation is lacking in that department.
I've done EVERYTHING on my list except this part:
*Clean the house *Clean the house *Clean the house *Finish all the laundry *Finish all the laundry *Finish all the laundry
-put together baby's dress (this weekend) -put together crib, still waiting on the replacement pieces that came broken -hang decorations on the walls -interview pediatricians -practice installing the car seat so we know what we're doing -attend 2nd shower (3/5) -wash all baby's clothes and put them away -buy things needed that weren't already purchased -set up monitor in the room -go on hospital tour (scheduled for 3/20)
Ok well I guess it's not so bad, but I just don't feel like doing any of it
- Buy crib and changing table (next week) - Build the furniture - Finish baby laundry (almost done) - Clean apartment (lol) - Pack hospital bag (at 35 weeks) - Buy yoga pants and light robe for hospital (next week) - Buy last items needed that I didn't get in the baby shower - Make playlist for labor - Sterilize pacifiers - Attend birth class
@Knottie9983816 I just saw your tag for me! SORRY chick!!! Yes, Flour Sack Towels (FST) can be used at any age/size. There are TONS of ways to fold them. You will need snappis or boingo or something to secure them (I am not a fan of pins). I would get some cheap microfleece from a fabric store and cut it into strips to put right against LO's bits. That way the moisture is pulled away from the skin. I would suggest finding some covers or wool longies that are one size to go over the FST to keep the wetness from getting all over the world. You can get covers in really good used condition for cheap!!

I'm getting about six covers, one set of three snappies, and about thirty FSTs. Was considering cutting up a microfiber blanket, or just using the small insert pieces that come with the rumparoos inserts inside them. We'll be doing NB cloth part time, and transitioning to full time once we make it to one sized diapers. That way it won't feel as overwhelming at first.
