Well, I'll start of by saying that I absolutely hate how many of us are dealing with such scary health issues right now. It seems that every day one of us is sharing a troubling update. I am so glad that we have this community to share with. It makes such a difference trying to cope with all the stuff
So, onto my crappy update. I just had my consult with the genetics counselor and a pair of doctors (Chief of Genetics and a high risk OB). They reviewed the current issues that we're facing: baby's long bones are all measuring behind - they're currently measuring in the 3rd percentile. In addition to the this, the cardiologist thinks there is a peri-membranous ventricular septal defect in the baby's heart - basically a hole in the heart.
These two conditions together (in addition to the high NT measurement from my 1st u/s) raise some big concerns from the Genetics doc - she said if it were just one or the other, it wouldn't raise a red flag for her - but since the two conditions exist together, she told us that she believes there is a good chance that there is some sort of underlying condition that we will need to deal with.
She said of the conditions we could be at risk for, there are a few that are lethal. Thankfully she doesn't think we need to worry about those as the measurements that would indicate a lethal condition are coming back normal. She said we're not out of the woods completely and we'll know more with the follow up u/s that I'll have next week.
We reviewed a wide spectrum of options moving forward, including amnio, a micro array (?) and some further genetic testing. Right now I'm going to go ahead with the amnio and micro-array. Amnio results will be back within a week or so but the micro array takes 3 or so weeks to be completed.
I am trying super hard to stay positive - but this meeting made it just a bit tougher. It all seems so surreal.
Anyways, I will continue to hope for the best. Thanks ladies.

I agree that I really had no idea issues were so prevalent but my goodness I'm so thankful for a place where we can speak freely and find support and love!

Do you know what cellular component they are using for the microarray? Are they taking some of the amniotic fluid for that as well? It's more sensitive than the traditional amnio test and I believe can detect a wide range of genetic abnormalities. Hopefully, it will give you some answers.
