A friend of mine had a her baby in December. Her daughter is almost two months and my son is almost three months. My son was born with very good head control. The pediatrician couldn't get over how well he could hold his head up for a newborn. I didnt really think much about tummy time. My mom said she never did it and her kids turned out fine lol I buy toys and he shows little interest in them. I actually read to him or talk with him the most. He loves when you make funny faces. My friend told me her daughter was rolling over and almost picking herself up during tummy time. So I decided to try this tummy time business... my son hates it and he most certainly cant pick himself up and he's not trying to roll over. He just screams. I researched and I found where you just introduce it to him a few brief times a day and use a boppy pillow. The boppy pillow helps some but he still doesnt try to lift his arms. He kicks like crazy and can hold his head up. Should I be worried? Admittedly I hold him a lot, but I've been trying to break out of that. I know kids develop at their own pace and I'm definitely going to talk to my pediatrician about it. I just wondered if anyone else was experiencing the same thing?
Re: Wondering if I'm doing something wrong
I end up holding my LO all the time, we do tummy yo tummy time. Lay down on the couch or floor on your back and put your LO on your tummy
Because it's hard for me to let my LO be on the floor I actually pulled out our jumper and secure DS in it with a blanket and pillow under his feet (because his feet are just shy of touching the floor) and so far he is liking it and it helps build muscle strength.
Keep doing what you're doing and don't worry, it sounds like you're doing a great job.
But as lots of people have said- every baby is different. It's a slippery slope comparing kids! By all means if you have serious concerns then bring them up with your dr but your son will do things in his own time
Anyway, you're not doing anything wrong. Find what works for you two and ignore anyone else
Also he may have rolled over the first time to try and watch TV. Oops. (He really seems to be enthralled by the TV as well....) He's only rolled from belly to back once since then too.
And just because DD rolled early didn't mean she did anything else early. She didn't crawl until 8 months and walked the day before she turned one.
Babies all do things on their own time.
Don't worry about being behind, all babies develop at their own pace. DS2 rolled over fairly often around 6 weeks and then lost the skills shortly after and wasn't able to again until he was older. Being worn in certain positions count as tummy time if your LO really fights it.
