Double standards/NBR

Hi ladies,

Anytime I wear a thong DH tells me that isn't "mom-like". I don't understand why because I didn't stop being a woman just because I got pregnant. Anyone else dealing with this because I am about to have an outburst that I don't want to have to regret later?

Any advice will do. Sorry in advance if this has been posted already!

  • I actually just bought some of my first ever 'regular' underwear and boy shorts.. still from Victoria secret but my SO responded with "Eww, why those? Just because you're pregnant you don't have to stop being sexy" after me wanting to smack him went away.. I got back online and ordered some lacey ones to please him. Not sure why your DH would respond that way. I would ask him what the deal is. Let him know that those things still make you feel sexy and you don't have to change your style just because you're going to be a mom. That's ridiculous. He should be happy you aren't wearing saggy granny panties!
  • What the what??????!!! My husband is on the opposite spectrum. He wants more g-strings on me, and that's great but they're so uncomfortable right now. I think a comfy thong is a great medium between butt floss and granny panties. You're going to be "mom-like" no matter what your underwear choice is!
  • Last pregnancy, DH commented on how I wouldn't be wearing anymore bikinis because "you're a mom now".  Umm no.  That just made me want to wear bikinis more!  I do wear one pieces and bikinis - bottom line - I wear what I want!!  and I probably won't fit into my one pieces this summer  ;)

  • My husband tells me it's not very mom like when I scream the F word.
Hmmm....my Mom screamed the F word all the time when I was a kid!!!!!
  • I just can't process your husband right now lol I wear whatever undies I pull out of the drawer. And if I can't find comfy onea, I just don't wear any...I mean...what does your underware situation have to do with being mom like lol I'm sorry, but I can't stop giggling about the ridiculousness of that statement! Does he prefer granny panties or something?

I'm already afraid my LO is going to have a very colorful vocabulary by the time he reaches preschool. Oops!

@Knottie66236605 Hopefully your H was just joking. Otherwise, no offense, but he sounds like a judgmental, sexist asshat! It's none of his business what kind of underwear you choose to wear, and if he can't still find you "sexy" now that you are going to be a mom, that's his problem, not yours.

I don't wear underwear so I don't know what you are talking about....

Don't you sniss?? I could never do commando because of a snissing!
  • That's pretty crazy. Why give up the sexy just cause you will be a mom?! Granted I found this embarrassing as a pre-teen but my mother was a sexy lady when she was around. Heck, she would go to church is really high thin heals and would do her gardening in short-shorts! MH really doesn't want me going to far into "mom mode" and I don't intend to . . . though I really need to cut back the cursing. I only really curse a lot at home but its a bad habit i am trying to quit.

I have been known to go commando when I wear a maxi skirt this pregnancy because its freakin' hot out and underwear can be annoying! I can't remember what snissing is other than having to do with pee . . . I can honestly say I haven't had any pee issues at all.
  • Oh lordy, I would pop DH is the face if he ever comments on something not being sexy because I am pregnant. He knows much better than that.
  • No matter what your choice of underwear is, he really shouldn't care. I've worn cheeksters our entire relationship and H has never complained about it. I own thongs and wear them when I need to (hello, leggings) but really, who cares? At this point, I will wear whatever is comfortable. If I were you, I'd tell your H to go through everything you're going through and then talk to you about what underwear to wear.
  • I stopped wearing thongs recently because they just aren't comfortable for any of the areas haha. But wtf DH!?!? Mine points out frequently that I will wear bikinis and thongs etc after when I try to say maybe I won't! Haha. Tell him they may take his man card away for saying that!!
  • The comments on this thread gave me some good chuckles.  Thanks, ladies!

OP -- I can't imagine any man I know saying that!  I'm very passive aggressive, so if my H ever said that to me I would either start wearing crotchless panties or theeeee biggest, ugliest pair of granny panties that have ever existed.
  • My husband is so excited every time I wear underwear that isn't over ten years old... I could probably afford to be less mom-like in the underwear department. Whatever that means.

I was about to say exactly that.

Heck, I'm wearing more thongs now than before I was pregnant. The VS lacey ones fit so nicely under my bump and they're good and stretchy.

  • I laughed in the car when I read this out loud to my DH. He said if someone said that, to troll them and become the ultimate soccer mom for a few days to teach him.

Echoing pp, it seems that he has a particular mom image in mind...that's going to need to be sorted through if he wasn't joking.

That GIF. Hahaha. Omg I'm dying. I promise myself and my LO I will never look like that! Yikes.
  • Those ladies seem pretty happy and sassy, I can think of worse ways to be. ;)

...but yeah can't say those clothes speak to my sense of style, either. No thanks. Morticia Addams was a mom, that's good enough for me.

  • "Eh, I guess giving blowjobs isn't very mom-like anymore, either. Have fun with your right hand, DH!"

Hahahah! So true, laughing so hard right now.

Thank you for this post! I feel your pain and needed a good laugh from reading all these responses. There is such a double standard! Although my husband hasn't commented on my granny pannies yet, he has mentioned sometimes to me "oh yeah, back when you were a fun girl..." compared to how I am now being pregnant with our first child. I was so furious! All I could think about is how different he would be if he was growing a human being inside of him.
  • I hear ya @Knottie64278661!! I just needed to get it off my chest I suppose but glad you can relate!!
