Buying baby food

I ordered my baby food making system but it's not here yet so I have to buy some until it gets here. I plan to do 80% or more homemade and have organic or natural jars of food for convience when going out and about. What brands have you liked? I was reading some of the ingredients on Gerber labels online and wasn't pleased with many of them. Does anyone have experience with Beech Nut? I found an organic brand at Acme I like but they only have a few flavors

Re: Buying baby food

We are using beech nut and my daughter seems to like it a lot more then the Gerber organic food. She actually eats it instead of spitting it out and it has a better taste ( I tried some before feeding it to her).

I went to babies r us tonight and I was pleasantly surprised by all the organic brands that they had. I ended up buying some beech nut and I did get Gerber pouches just because I saw they had mango and that made me excited for him to try lol I bought a bunch of Gerber previously and decided I'm going to keep their new plastic containers to reuse as I store the baby food I make too
  • We often use plum organics.

  • I kept trying Gerber and my kiddo cried and spit it out. My guess is it's too tart. I bought beech nut and was able to feed him 5 bites with no crying! It was peas .... *Hopeful*

I was looking at them but I haven't heard anyway say they use that brand so maybe I'll try!

My son did this too so I'm hoping the beech nut has different results
  • You don't need a system to make baby food. While you're waiting, just make something that breaks down easily from cooking-like carrot or sweet potato. Even if you don't have a blender/food processor, you can mash those with a fork if you overcook them slightly.

  • My sister used Earth's Best and always liked it. Also, for those who have babies spitting out - my doc and PAT rep both told me at the 4 month check in that baby still has gag reflex and will automatically spit food back out a lot at first but that it doesn't mean they don't like it! I never had heard that!! So keep trying a food they spit out at first to see if they really don't like it or if it was just reflex!!

  • Avocados & bananas are two foods that only require smashing & thinning with BM/formula/water. I'm just using a Nuby smash n serve set ($8). Works great!

I was also told that they're not spitting it out because they don't like it, they're just figuring out how to eat he food and their tongue pushes it out
