Asymmetric Thigh Folds And Hip Dysplasia?

Hey mamas
I have a question. We just went to our 4 month check up and the doctor told me that my baby's fat rolls on her legs are not symmetrical. She told that it can be do to hip dyspepsia and told me to go have a ultrasound of the hips. She also told me not to worry because there was no popping sound. But you know how it is with us mommies - always a worried mess.
I made the appointment in February 2nd and now I sit and wait.... And think about it... And Google it.... Feb 2nd is a long time to wait.
Is anyone of you going through this or have gone thought this? And what were your results?

  • My LO had a hip click at his 2 month apt and we had to get an ultrasound. I was of course super upset, but it turned out fine. Pediatricians are very proactive!

They told me not to feed my LO before the ultrasound, and I wasn't sure why, but it is bc they want you to feed him during the procedure to keep him calm.

Stay strong and try not to worry! (Haha)

  • LO was born via c-section due to breech position which makes them more prone to hip dysplasia. There was no click but we have had 2 ultrasounds. First everything looked good but was still a little immature so wanted to do a double check 6 weeks later and everything looked good then so we are all done. All I can say is just take a deep breath it is very treatable if they end up having it and our doctor at the ultrasound told me right then that everything looked good and then her pediatrician also called to say it was all good. You'll both be in my thoughts just remember to breathe :-)
  • My LO was born with a hip click and ended up being diagnosed with hip dysplasia at two weeks old. He was in the pavlik harness for six weeks 24/7 and then went to a removable brace. He is 19 weeks now and only sleeps in his brace at night. I know how stressful it is, but baby has been comfortable and pain-free throughout the whole process. Our next appointment is in February and we are hoping we can ditch the brace altogether. My thoughts are with you.
  • We had this come up at our two month appointment. Who knew fat folds were so important!?!? We had to have an x-Ray and everything came back normal. Sending hugs your way, I know how stressful it is but try not to worry!
  • Please let us know how this turns out. Hip dysplasia seems to be common. Praying for your peace!
  • My niece had this, she had to wear leg braces at night. Other than that it didn't seem to interfere well being. She's a very happy active two and a half year old.

September 2015 lurker here (not much of a poster on boards  ).

My daughter Violet was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 7 weeks. She didn't have any of the hip clunking or asymmetry but my ped scheduled an ultrasound for her because she was breech -- low and behold, she had dysplasia of both hips, and into a Pavlik harness she went -- she's now been in it 11 weeks and counting.

Violet doesn't really mind the harness - it's more of an inconvenience when it comes to diapers and cute clothes (Violet now has an extensive collection of onesies and leg warmers because she can't wear pants in the harness -- basically you need clothing that you can unsnap to change the baby without taking the harness off). She's also a spit up queen, so the harness has seen better days and smells. It is working, though, so I'm happy!

If it turns out your LO has dysplasia, feel free to message me if you have questions or just need someone to commiserate with. It's a lot to take in and it sucks, but it is treatable. I figure it's like winning the Jackpot of crappy things that could happen -- it's totally treatable and won't have long term impacts as long as you catch it now.

Sending good thoughts that your LO doesn't have it -- but if it turns out they do, you can get through this, mamma!!!
