November 2015 Moms

anyone planning the next LO already?

Before you ask if I'm crazy, I probably am. I had a horrible pregnancy as a lot of you know from reading my story. Six doctor appointments a week for the last 10 weeks of pregnancy. Also had a horrible 25 hour labor with no epidural until the end where I ended up having a very scary emergency c-section. After all this I still find myself planning the next one. I got a clean bill of health from my doctors and they see no reason why I can't have another baby. I have always wanted my kids to be close together. I am not on birth control but I am breastfeeding. I know that's not a reliable source of birth control and I'm ok with that. I'm seeking advice from second time moms who have LOs close in age. We'd like to get pregnant by the time she's a year. What advice can you offer? What did you find easy/hard? What do you wish someone would have told you? I find myself thinking about the little things. Should we buy another crib since Elliot's converts all the way up. Would it be easier to move her to a toddler bed and give our next baby the crib? Will she even be old enough for a toddler bed? I know that nobody can plan my life obviously, just looking for some advice to help my husband and I along this journey since I'm worried about the smallest things!

Also, is anyone else thinking of the next LO yet or am I the only crazy one? :p

  • You're not the only one! I think about it daily that I would be ok if I surprise got pregnant any day lol he's ok with more but he's got 2 that come for the summer so the smart choice is prob to see how this summer goes and my
Little is older before we have another but I'm ready for number 2! :)))

  • Talk to your doctor about your time frame - I was told to avoid getting pregnant until Spawn is at least a year old to allow my uterus to fully heal from my c-section. She worded along the lines of 'if you got pregnant you'd probably be fine, but I advise against it just in case'.
  • Thank you for that post! I hadn't seen that yet. I'm looking more for advice of people who have been there. Like @itstheblackwidowbaby said to discuss the time with the doctor. He said I could have more but we didn't discuss when. We were just looking more at my blood/body and how it went back to normal again. Well not normal for the average person, but normal for me. Thank you! I would be ok with waiting a year but not much longer than that. I will talk to my doctors.
  • My SIL is an OB and she said there are a lot of recent studies that really point to waiting 18m before having another child. I have friends w children spaced closer and they are all healthy but appearantly it increases the risk of autism and a few other conditions.

Do you have any links to those studies? I hadn't heard that. We'd like to start trying for the next at the end of the summer. So the closest they would be is 18 months. I'm definitely excited for another one!

I wanted my kids to be very close in age too. Thats how we ended up on the subject. I'll ask her for links if they are availible online.

Im at work but I did google it. Mayo clinic & cdc have papers & articles online with recommendations and what the second child is at an increased risk for.

  • @smnewby Thank you! I'll check that out. Good to know before we start planning so we can weigh the risks.
  • My OB recommended a year before trying get pregnant again since I had a CS, but mentioned waiting a year is good for all women. She said if I got pregnant before a year the pregnancy would be considered higher risk and no VBAC.
I BF DS and did not get my period back until he was 14 months old, then got pregnant with this one when he was 16 months. No real advise so far. I like the age gap we have. About getting a 2nd crib we chose not to and just got DS a toddler bed. DS is very easy going and handles change well, if he had a harder time with change I probably would of gotten a 2nd crib. We had no issues changing him to the toddler bed (I think he was about 20 months when he changed).

  • Oh my goodness! They're too cute!
  • Are any c-section ladies still having some pain in Thier incision area? My LO is 8 weeks old and I still have times where I have pain when I lift my leg or sit down sometimes. It comes and goes at random times. Is that normal?

I'm 11 weeks out and I wouldn't say I feel pain, but my incision is uncomfortable if I overdo it. Most of the time it just feels numb though.

Your not crazy. My OB gave me the go ahead at my 6 week after I adviced her we would not be using BC since we hoped to have another sooner rather than later. We are thinking somewhere around 6 month mark and we will try again

However I've always had a gap between children so l can't advise much in what the pros and cons would be.

We wanted to start trying for our next baby at the end of April or may. Got the ok from the OB when LO is 6 months because I insisted we wanted them close in age. But after reading this I'm really not sure at all now that's a good idea. The risk outweigh the benefits health wise and I don't like the thought of that. Yikes! I'm kind of sad now.

I wouldn't call it pain, but there's still a...tightness in my pelvis from lack of better term. It's uncomfortable if I overdo it, but I usually only feel it if I move a certain way.

Yes it's normal. My LO is also 8 weeks and my dr said it could take anywhere from 6-9 months to go away. As long as it comes and goes. If it is constant then I would call the dr.

️️Mommy of 4 here. My oldest will be 6 feb 25th. My first two are 2 weeks shy of 2 years apart, #2 & #3 are 2y 2m apart and #3 & #4 are 19m apart. My first 3 were not planned! We started trying for our last one when #3 was about 3/4m old. I love having my kiddos so close in age but honestly have to say the 2 years apart is better. It's harder for #3 to grasp having to be gentle. It was also harder for me to love on #3 a ton because of a big belly and nursing so much the first month. He is a good sport about it and loves his brother a ton but it was easier with the 2 year gap. I also like that they all fall in where there is one year in between them school wise. So I will only have 2 in high school at the same time (when my oldest is a senior my second will be a sophomore)
  • my older two are 19 months apart and I love their spacing.  They have a built in playmate and I feel that 19 months was a pretty good age to introduce a newborn.  He wasn't jealous at all but was old enough to know he had to be careful with the baby.  My nephews are only 15 months apart and my SIL had a really hard time in the beginning.  She said she wished they were further apart when they were babies but she likes it now that they are a little older.
