I just wanted to chime in on the vitamins thing! For everyone who gets sick from vitamins, I'd like to suggest trying to take them after dinner. Full stomach, and you can sleep through any weird/yucky sick feelings. I've been taking my vitamins at night for years, and it's been working great for me.
I'm very lucky because my DH will comply with most of my TTC-related requests. He started taking a multi-V with zinc a couple of months ago, as zinc is supposed to be good for sperm health. I can't ask him to give up coffee, but he only drinks 2-3 cups a day, and maybe 1 cup on weekends. *Small TW* The month I had my CP was the same month I decided DH wasn't allowed to go to the gym in the evenings during FW because I didn't want him heating up the jewels right before show time! Maybe a coincidence, but it seemed like that also worked (as far as sperm meeting egg goes)? If anything, it didn't hurt! DH still gets to go to the gym in the mornings, just not in the evenings after work during FW. It's a small sacrifice and only for a couple of days, so he doesn't mind. We're trying the no gym thing again this month, so we'll see how it goes.
DH is taking zinc, folate and a men's gummy vitamin. Yep, a gummy vitamin. I second what @MissAmeliaPond said, too. I take my vitamins when I brush my teeth before bed, never in the morning. I've never been sick from them that way. DH doesn't drink coffee but he does drink red bull, but usually only 1 per day. The cell phone thing is interesting though, i wonder if it can also effect female eggs??! Hmm..
I started giving dh a fish oil supplement along with his multi vitamin daily. Getting him to take these two pills are like getting a child to take medicine. He likes to have the gummies or if it's a pill I I have to give him a glass of chocolate milk to "wash it down". Omg.
When we first started ttc, dh started getting aggressive about promotions... And it worked out very well for us. His goal was to make sure I could be a sahm bc his line of work requires a lot of travel.
Also, he worked hard to pay off all debt when we started trying. Woooo!!
Other than that, he is generally pretty healthy. It's my health (not stuff I'm doing wrong... Just... Cancer) that's a train wreck so... We don't focus on his part as much.

DH used to be (I swear) addicted to red bull!! One new years, his NY resolution was no more energy drinks. And every new year he's like "X years sober!!!" lol. It's kinda funny.. Every once in a while he'll bust out with "you know, I haven't had a red bull in x years and x Months, sometimes I think I want it again, but I feel so much better without it" ... It's like his drug of choice!? Lol.. Just makes me giggle.

I cut caffeine completely out a month or two before TTC just because I wanted to prove to myself that I could. I let myself have a little from time to time now, but not a lot. After I quit though, DH quit, so at least he's got that going for him. He too used to drink TONS of soda... he still does, it's just caffeine free (and diet). I've tried to get him to stop, but he won't.
I've also been trying to get him to take a multivitamin, but he fights it. He took one once on an empty stomach and got sick, and now he's like, "they always make me sick!" Right 1 time he gets sick, and like 20 times he hasn't. Uggghhhh, just take your vitamins, DH!
Lol they can be such damn babies sometimes. Like compared to everything we physically go through they can't handle a damn multivitamin? Cracks me up. Eat a damn cracker with it!
Edit*qbf* Before my surgery to take out CANCER, DH. complained about taking his multi vitamin. I lost it. Not even gonna lie. Like... Really? Your gonna complain right now?! Now he's not so bad after that major meltdown. I think he is afraid of a repeat meltdown. As long as I serve said vitamin with chocolate milk, he's a lot better. such babies.

Just chiming in to say I was just at the RE's office this week and she made a big point of stressing that it is truly 50/50, so if you get to the point of needing assistance, warn your guys they will have to go whack off in a cup for science, and likely more than once. Might be worth giving up a little caffeine for a while to see if they can avoid that, as I know for many (not all, but many), that is not appealing.
This kind of freaks me out, because there is no way DH will cut down on coffee. He
drinks a ridiculous amount of coffee and is really attached to it. This is him at 11 pm on any given night, seriously, except he's not a ginger.
He has taken a multivitamin for years and this weekend went to a bunch of stores searching for a mail fertility - boosting vitamin. Hopefully that will make up for the caffeine. Maybe?
I might switch his coffee beans with decaf beans. Would that make me crazy?
Maybe just show him some of the studies about high caffeine intake and fertility and see what he says? He could maybe cut down a bit. It says in most of the studies that even a moderate drinker doesn't have their sperm affected - it's only people who drink pretty extreme amounts so he doesn't need to give it up completely.
It's worth a shot, but I think I'll have better luck switching his beans. Muahahahahahaha.
For us, DH is already very healthy in terms of diet/exercise. He eats tons of veggies, whole foods, etc. and also takes a multi. The one thing I had to get him to change was the sauna -- he LOVES going into the sauna after his workouts, so I had to do a little convincing to have him cut this out temporarily, until we get our BFP! I know he's not in love with the idea buuuuut considering I have to think about so much, I'm ok with asking him to stop doing one thing!
This thread has been interesting. Most of this never even occurred to me. I can't ask H to cut out caffeine, especially since I'm not even planning to myself. I am weaning myself off afternoon coffee (currently through green tea, soon will switch to herbal) and maybe H could do the same. I think he's probably within the realm of "moderate" at least.
I do want H to get healthier overall, but nagging pretty much guarantees he won't do something. He told me himself yesterday that he wants to start working out, so I'm just trying to be really supportive. We both eat healthy (no fast food, etc.) but he's been very sedentary since getting switched from a field to desk job at work, and was diagnosed with pre-hypertension
No more heating pad on lower back/butt and no more car seat warmer. We like heat here, and heat can damage sperm.
Oh man I didn't even think about seat warmers! We don't have a car so normally don't have to worry about it, but we borrowed a car from my in-laws and used the sear warmers during my FW this month... Hopefully it wasn't enough to actually make a difference.
I read all this and was starting to look into what DH needs to be doing (he already takes a multivitamin and omegas and whatnot) and read how important hydration is. Um, he hardly ever drinks water.
So I told him last night to start drinking more water, and he just told me he drank 100oz today. Bless him. I love that guy.

Haha!! There is such a thing as over hydrating though Don't you love it when they get excited about doing their part? It's the sweetest.

I didn't even think of this! My car has them and DH loves them. I'll have to tell him very sweetly, "dear, you're frying your sperm." Haha. We live in Texas, so I think he'll live.
My husband got his balls cut open and vas deferens re-attached. It was his romantic way of letting me know he was on board with TTC.

My DH felt sick after taking a multivitamin so I had him go out and buy one without iron, and now he seems to be doing fine. He has been wearing boxers (instead of boxer briefs) as well. He only drinks 2 cups of coffee a day so I have left that alone but did ask him not to drink more than that.
Like @LizaKate1213 my DH takes a gummy multivitamin with zinc and omega 3s in it. Dehydration is probably my husband's worst habit though... @houseofsetters how did you get yours to drink 100oz!? That's awesome!
My husband drinks one cup of coffee a day, is that within the "okay" range?
He also uses his butt warmers in his car and I never thought about that... it's a new car, I mentioned not using them just now and he got really sad.

I am pretty sure all men shouldn't have multi vitamins with iron. They have found that it's more harmful and increases their risk of heart diseases. Women only need it because we menstruate.
@PennStateCait He found some kind of flavoring that he likes (I told him to order it in bulk)! He also switched from soda to La Croix a few months ago, so that helps! Water was the easy part, getting him to cut back on beer? He's heartbroken.
