@hockeyfan42: Ugh, good luck with the electrician.
Jumping in to say hello to you fellow lady engineers @hockeyfan42 and @Kballew10. Biomedical over here. Geological engineering sounds very interesting.

@hockeyfan42 and @crdo - Hooray for fellow female engineers! I'm a Chemical Engineer currently doing Quality Engineering. Biomedical sounds awesome, but I HATED biology, so it was definitely not for me. A civil engineering friend of mine always like the geological parts of her classes, but I was never completely clear what exactly it entailed.
Edit - to add @NicknShan since we posted at the same time!
@NicknShan my husband is an environmental engineer. You engineering ladies are impressive! Very much the opposite side of the brain from my comfort zone.
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? OK so don't judge but yesterday I had painful, frequent contractions for several hours and just kind of ignored it until it went away I told myself if there was any really mucusy or bloody discharge or if it was still happening by this morning, I'd go in. But it did seem to stop before I fell asleep last night so...hoping that's the end of that. Now I'm scared that my US later this week will show some crazy cervical changes or something. Trying not to think about it tbh. That was a very strange experience that never happened in my first pregnancy...until I was past my due date and in prodromal labour....argh.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? I have been organizing and renovating my apartment but slowed down a lot yesterday because I felt like I had over-exerted myself. But I have to have my old kitchen cabinets/countertops etc ripped out by next Tuesday when my new kitchen comes so I'd better get on it.
Questions? Nothing today
GTKY: What was your favorite subject in school growing up? Science (then Biology in high school). Could not be further from what I ended up doing for a living. I have a secret desire to go to med school when my kids are a little older. Recently found out a family member who is over 10 years older than me is doing just that, so made me feel less like that is an insane dream!

Woohoo ladies! @NicknShan: Yay!! I liked chemistry, my structural classes, and thermo, but the medical applications of engineering are more my thing.
@NicknShan I'd just go for it, but be a little cautious at the beginning as you might find weird things bug you that you didn't expect (off-kilter balance, uncomfortable bouncing bump, lowered cardio capacity, etc)
@kayla2536 I'm still exercising and fairly intensely. I'm down to once a week tkd classes because I can't hack my black belt class but my other class is an hour long and fairly intense and I hardly modify anything (mostly I just refuse to do situps/crunches). Last pregnancy I did that until 24 weeks when my balance changes were making it dangerous. And I do weight training still.
@Jerseygirl9090 I'm not taking mat leave this time but with my first I worked until the last Friday before my due date (which was a Thursday, so almost a full week before). It was stressful at the end feeling like I had to completely wrap up everything every day because I didn't know if I would make it back the next day. I went into labour 2 days after I stopped working.
@ahernandez16 I don't think that's very feasible, no. Especially if you're planning to breastfeed. I'm sure people do it, when they really have to, but that sucks really bad for them. It is not a good scenario.
How far along are you? 17 weeks today! Between the Bump and my Ovia app, my baby is variously the size of: an onion, creme brulee, a chipmunk or a game boy controller.
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? My midwife appt went well yesterday--still waiting on IPS results (grrr) but baby had a strong heartbeat.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Gestating.
GTKY: What was your favorite subject in school growing up? English Lit, so no surprise that I'm still toiling away -- I'm in my 4th year of a PhD English Lit program.

Love seeing so many female engineers!! I had to take CE classes too. There is some overlap for sure! GE is broad, but mostly deals with aspects of rocks, soils, underground water, etc. DH is also an engineer. He did Engineering Management/Industrial Engineering. Nerd alert around here!

My undergrad is in Meteorology though... So I am more of a fluid dynamics type of gal. Now I work in air dispersion. SUPER COOL.
@mkemommy my boss seems to be under the impression that 2 weeks is all the leave I'll be needing... see my rant.
Oh, no. I plan on telling him I want at least 6 weeks (but truthfully, after his comment, I'll probably start negotiating at like 12...) or I'll find another job before I go back to work 14 days after giving birth.
I just wasn't sure if that was something that people even did. You wouldn't ask someone who just had major surgery to be back in full work mode 2 weeks later, why should you expect a woman who just pushed a human out of her vagina/had one cut out of her to be?
That is COMPLETELY screwed up. Seriously, he is delusional and should check himself in to a mental institution.
Rant/rave..my morning sickness came back full fledged this week. I feel absolutely terrible today, havnt been able to keep down water or crackers. Stomach hurts. Back hurts. Have been having random headaches. LO is all over the place as usual. I learned she really likes music. Still another week till my next appt.
What am I doing to prepare for baby? DH and I started looking into car seats. And child birth classes. Hopefully we can find one in the country out here lol
Gtky..favorite subject? English. I was good at everything except for social studies haha
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Rant: Picking a boy name is HARD. Thought we had settled on one - but we've decided now that it won't work. Rave: DD is kicking a$$ at potty training - finally. She's 29 months and we've been at it for 3ish months now. We discovered that pull ups were our nemesis as they felt too much like a diaper to her and she just peed in them anyways and still does. But if she has real undies on she always uses the potty. Yay. Looking forward to a few diaper-free months before June. Symptoms: Congestion, gas and a real, actual sex drive.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Trying to pick a name. DH has three billion cousins and most of them are male and they all seem to have my favourite names.
Questions?
GTKY: What was your favorite subject in school growing up? Gym, for sure. ha! I sort of liked French b/c I found it pretty easy, but gym was the most fun. I went on to study linguistics and psychology in university and I loved abnormal psych. So interesting!

You'd think after all the fuss about the CEO of Yahoo only taking 2 weeks off after her twins, he would realize that 1-2 weeks is obscenely short. Or maybe I've just been paying more attention to baby news than I used to so that stuck with me.
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? My flight to VA has been cancelled and I'm almost relieved. I have my A/S on Friday and I'm growing so impatient - I want to know the sex and I was confirmation that everything looks good with the baby. Friday at 3pm PT can't come soon enough! As far as symptoms go - I only woke up in the middle of the night ONCE last night! WOOHOO!!
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Lots of research and gestating
Questions? None that Google can't either answer or make me more confused!
GTKY: What was your favorite subject in school growing up? History and Drama
@chelseay416 you can go to https://cert.safekids.org/find-tech-0 and search for a certified tech near you that can help teach you how to properly install your car seat. They should show you how to do it, then have you install it yourself while they supervise so you leave knowing that you can do it yourself in the future. A lot of fire departments and police departments will install car seats but they are not always done be techs, but just by an average person trying to help you out.
@ahernandez16 I think that most day cares won't take children until they are at least 6 weeks old, so if you are planning on putting LO in daycare, I would look into that and use that if you need to in regards to getting more time off. Unless he wants you to bring a newborn to work with you for four weeks...
@catherinekate if you don't mind me asking, what are your plans for your PhD in English Lit? I got into an English program to teach high school, but realized I didn't think that's for me... after 6 years of college... I'm only really finishing just in case I ever change my mind and because it's my last semester, anyway.
I've considered going for my MFA in Creative Writing or Composition and Rhetoric which is obviously different than English Lit but I'm curious if you have any specific career path in mind with your PhD.
@NicknShan he works for a consulting company- focusing on energy efficiency mainly. He loves it and he really gets to do something that his heart is into. I'll be at a fun work party this Friday with all his fellow engineering folk- assuming I can shake this killer cold.
@ahernandez16 Good question! You probably know that tenure-track jobs are near impossible to find or attain. I have started to do peripheral educational development, training and curriculum work so I'm planning on pursuing a career in education development. It's an emergent field, but really exciting. I hope to continue teaching in a limited duties position.
I couldn't deal with high school kids personally--I'm much more interested in adult education. But in my experience a master's degree in whatever field is always really helpful. I would really recommend against a PhD because you're often trapped by it--considered over-qualified for many jobs but in fact lack a lot of skills (or competition is too fierce) to be competitive for jobs supposedly in your area.
@Huskerfanz please let me know what you find out about your sinuses. I'm at 1.5 weeks of terrible sinus congestion. I'm thinking it's just a long-lasting cold due to my suppressed (pregnant) immune system but it really truly sucks. I've wondered if it's more than a cold too...
My OB is starting me on an antibiotic - can't remember which one but it's pregnancy safe. Hope you feel better soon!
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI! Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Rant: Forgot my lunch at home today and the school cafeteria is not very pregnancy and gluten free friendly, ugh. Rave: Baby was moving like crazy today! I think LO must be a ninja or aerialist! Symptoms: Back pain, sinus infection for over a month and a half, ugh.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Looking for baby names without much success. So challenging as a teacher...
GTKY: What was your favorite subject in school growing up? Surprise! Art was my favorite and now I'm a high school art teacher. I also loved science, horticulture, and PE. If I didn't become an art teacher, I probably would have pursued landscape architecture in undergrad. I also love technology, so I just completed my masters degree in Instructional Technology.
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Working late tonight which really stinks. But at least by the time I'm off work rush hour traffic will be gone and it won't take me as long to get home! Not sure it's a pregnancy related symptom but my stomach has been acting up lately for no reason.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Nothing. We are moving on the 29th. Once we move into the new place I'll work on baby stuff.
Questions? Not at the moment.
GTKY: What was your favorite subject in school growing up? English and art! Anything that let me be creative.

I've got to come back and do my actual update
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? I can feel my sweet baby on the outside now! Its so crazy!! I do however have the flu, so it has not been the best week for us.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Cleaning the nursery!

Rant/rave/symptoms--I'm feeling pretty ok today. Just wish I was feeling baby move. I know I didn't start feeling DD until around 25 weeks last time.
Not doing anything to prepare right now.
GTKY--math and my junior year of English because of the teacher.
@NicknShan I've never tried one of the belts...would be interesting to know if they are helpful!

Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
Anyone else feeling nauseous when the baby kicks certain areas? Sometimes it feels like he/she is kicking me straight in the stomach.
