Trying to Get Pregnant

Wine and the TWW

Hello ladies (and this is directed at fellow wine-o's)!

Just curious about everyone's opinion of wine/alcohol during the TWW. If there is a previous thread about this, sorry, I did not see one.

I have read several studies on the use of alcohol during pregnancy and different opinions on a glass of wine occasionally, or never, or more than occasionally and they are all so different. However, I have not heard much if at all on drinking during the TWW. The nurse who goes over the "after care" of our IUI said that drinks were fine within the first couple of days, at least until what would be implantation and Lord knows I love wine and the relaxation that comes with it. However, I am curious to everyone else's views on this. And.... GO! :)

Re: Wine and the TWW

  • Alcohol before you know you're pregnant =/= alcohol while pregnant. I drink before the HPT pops and then nothing after (it makes me sick usually).

I drink until its pink. You aren't pregnant until you get that +HPT IMHO.

  • I'm in the drink til it's pink club too, but I only drink sparingly during the TWW. Just don't go overboard, and you'll be fine. :)

  • I'm not a huge drinker to begin with, but I fully believe that you shouldn't live like your pregnant until you actually are. Drink till it's pink!

  • It's nice to know I'm not alone on this. The waiting is hard enough without a little downtime and my favorite happy meal. ;)

Yeah, drink till it's pink for sure! If you can't turn a test, then you're not KU and can drink. In this situation, we're all literally waiting for the exact second we can test and possibly get a BFP. We'll know we're KU way before most women do and will stop drinking at that point.

ETA: I have the same opinion on coffee. Nothing but a bun in the oven is going to pry the coffee from my hands ;)

  • I'm still enjoying my glass or 2 during the TWW. I am avoiding getting any kind of tipsy, but will have that wine until it's pink!

  • Drink 'til it's pink! My mom likes to tell the story of when she got tipsy on wine and then found out the next day that she was pregnant with me. Obviously she didn't imbibe after that, but she always says "...and you turned out fine!" To which my DH always responds "...well, the jury is still out on that one." Yeah, you can tell it's a frequent story.

  • I strongly believe in wine @MrsBinPA - and describe glass... They make so many different sizes of those! ;) all in all though, I do try to be cautious but like others said, not acting KU until I actually am. It helps take the stress off of the whole situation. @MRSCORKER - coffee is my morning wine, I get it.

My wife and I have a routine. Coffee every morning before work, and a glass or two of wine at night to unwind with dinner. I will probably have to opt for decaf and grape juice when there is a mini-us in there.
  • @kirby1220 that's what most of my non TTGP friends say... So many stories about families popping up due to drunken nights, or not knowing they were already expecting and still going full throttle, lol. "You guys turned out great!" Either way, it's nice hearing that I'm not ruining my chances by indulging right now. This will be our 4th try coming up, and while it probably isn't as long to some of you, it is still taxing emotionally AND with the $. Donor sperm ain't no joke! :)
  • @samijrichards Good luck! That must be really stressful. Keeping my FX for you!

  • There's a poll thread I linked in the Newbie Guide from July. Click -> "drink until it's pink."
Personally, I don't normally drink in the TWW. I did have a couple glasses last cycle though.

  • Drink till it's pink
But once it's pink everything alcohol stops.

  • I've really cut down on my alcohol intake since starting to TTC this month--just because of those facts about it impacting fertility. Not that I really drink that much, but I also had sort of a debaucherous Christmas in Kansas City and was ready to step back from the drink for a bit.

Tonight, though...tonight I could use a glass of sherry. :)
