2nd Time Mom with Newbie Symptoms Questions

Hi, we have been TTC #2 and this week I have this deep sensation that I know I am pregnant, but its way too early for a urine test. Yes, I know I really don't *know* until that double line, BUT, I feel so pregnant. Mainly, I EBF my 7 month old and there is never any pain ever, yet since Monday my nipples have been ON FIRE when I pump or BF. I also am extremely exhausted (more than my usual taking care of a 7 month old self). I also have had a few instances of nausea due to smell. Anyways, I just feel pregnant.

But, the rational part of me is like no way you would be feeling like this if your only two weeks pregnant. My last pregnancy I didn't know until my missed period, and I ended up already been 7 weeks pregnant, and then I never had any symptoms until the 2nd trimester,

Please help, is it even possible that I could be experiencing pregnancy symptoms this early? Thanks! :)

  • Its definitely not PMS. Postpartum I have had a super regular, and completely easy period, always coming on the 1st.

However, I have read that if you have symptoms then a urine test will come out positive. I tested last night, and it was negative, so I am probably over thinking it.

Dang my nips hurt though! I hope its not thrush...
  • Implantation occurs at 4 weeks, so I don't think you are pregnant as of yet. Sorry!

  • What the first poster said, symptoms means you've got enough hCG in your system to turn a test. If you're still BF and your baby is only 7 months old its possible your hormones are a bit wonky and the progesterone from the luteal phase is giving you symptoms that you didn't use to get.

Also one note, implantation occurs at 6-12 dpo, so 2w6d-3w5 days. Implantation does not occur at 4 weeks as a PP suggested.

Wait, you think you could have symptoms at just two weeks pregnant? At two weeks pregnant you're not even really pregnant yet. Listen to the rational part of yourself - it is not possible.

  • When was your last period? You say "2 weeks pregnant" but by the way doctors date pregnancy, 2 weeks = day of ovulation = not pregnant yet. If you mean you might have conceived 2 weeks ago (putting your last menstrual period at about 4 weeks ago) then you would be considered 4 weeks pregnant, and you should take a test because 2 weeks post-ovulation is long enough to take one. If your cycles are irregular and the date of your LMP is useless, then just take a test, and keep testing until your period shows up, or you get a positive.
Every pregnancy is different, but the hormones that cause nausea and some of the other symptoms are the same hormones that would turn a pee stick positive. Take a test first thing in the morning. If it's negative, wait a day or two and test again.

  • My period has been always coming at the end/beginning of the month, and according to that I would be like three weeks pregnant. Based on when I think In conceived I would be almost 4 weeks pregnant. I conceived 2 weeks ago, or so I think.

Anyways, it doesn't matter. Most likely I am just over thinking it. I'll wait a couple of weeks and take another test.

What To Expect When You're Expecting says 4 weeks?? Maybe I'm misunderstanding it.

Their app is wrong and it irritates me so much.  I charted bbt so I know when I ovulated and I got a BFP at 3w4d.  If implantation didn't occur until 4 weeks that would have been impossible.  The big name tests also claim they can tell 6 days before your missed period, or 3w1d (with 50-75% accuracy but hey it's something).  Implantation has to occur before hCG gets into your system.
  • I think it's all in your head but that doesn't mean you aren't pregnant. I just think that if you think you are, then you are hyper sensitive to the symptoms. Good luck!!!

Ok I gotcha! Even their book says 4 weeks but I take most of their information with a grain of salt anyway.

  • Well, needless to say, I'll let you guys know when I know. I'll test next week sometime.
  • I'm in the exact same boat as you actually, with a 7 month old and all. With my first, I had symptoms 6 days post ovulation although I didn't get a positive hpt until about 18 days past ovulation (but positive blood test at 13 days past). Now I'm only at about 4 days past ovulation & maybe I'm creating my symptoms but I'm incredibly fatigued & crampy. I think it's possible to have symptoms well before implantation. I'll likely take a hpt in about 7 days. Keep us posted!!

If you are testing early, testing at night isn't a smart move. You need to hold your urine all night and use first morning urine to test. Urine in the evening would have a more diluted concentration of HCG.

Good luck to you, but until you see two lines on a stick, we can't help you much.

  • Unfortunately nature kind of sucks and PMS symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms are almost exactly the same. This is due to the rise in progesterone that occurs after ovulation whether you are pregnant or not. just wait it out and try not to get your hopes too high if you are the type to be crushed if AF arrives.

  • ...womp womp womp. I wasn't pregnant! :(

Oh well, we are trying again this month. Fingers crossed.
  • Along with what PP's have said, keep in mind that your hormones are going to be really wonky for a while. You will get explainable new symptoms one day and then they'll be gone the next or in a week. At 7 mos post partum your body is still out of wack from birth.
