TV

Who here watches tv while taking care of their baby? If you don't what do you do?

Re: TV

  • TV is my best friend. I bump or get on some type of social media site if I'm not watching TV. Ah, the life I live. -_-
  • Loading the player...
  • Yep. Also let my 2 year old watch. I don't follow the "no TV before 2" that some do*. My daughter has learned so many things from Sesame Street and Blue's Clues that she certainly didn't get from me. She asked me to make an octagon for her out of some Lego fence pieces before she was 2 years old. That's all Elmo there. Her speech is very articulate, also.

*The AAP amended their recommendation recently, as well.

  • We watch tv but only kid friendly shows or movies because I have my toddler too. We keep it off during all meals for ds though. Sadly, I need the tv to keep ds entertained while I feed lo.

@redfallon I agree! My ds has learned a lot from good ol elmo. He is only 21 months and can count to 3 and recognize a few numbers and letters. That is awesome about your dd!

  • So. Much. Netflix. I'm not a big TV person, but I'll have it on if I'm tied to the couch. I like it for background noise sometimes, too.
  • Cops marathons are my saving grace in the wee hours of the mornings
  • I watch tv too. I read all about the "no tv till after 2" but I don't know how you're supposed to do it. I mean when you have a new born and their sleeping what else are you supposed to do?!? Just sit there and watch them sleep?? I guess I could understand that argument for older children like 6-8 mos and up but not new born to 2. My mom watched tv with all of us and we turned out just fine.
  • I love the music channels on direct TV. My two year old likes any kind of music and it's nice to have it on when we're just hanging out. But Mickey Mouse clubhouse is also is also a favorite in our house! We try to stick to a one show a day rule in our house, but it all depends.
  • TV with subtitles since LO and I haven't worked out BF and he gets frustrated.
    Netflix and NowTV are brilliant
  • When I'm not entertaining or feeding DS while bf DD, occasionally I watch Netflix but mostly I play tons of puzzle games on my phone. My current favorite is picture cross games. There's been a couple times I tried to read all our to keep myself awake but DD screamed at me until I stopped so she could eat in peace. Sorry, Kiddo.
  • I think as kids get older it becomes obvious when you have to limit screen time. When they are little you gotta do what you gotta do! Right now I'm watching turbo for the millionth time, on my phone, bf the newbie, cuddled up with ds. Multitasking.
  • We keep the TV on during the day but it's mostly just background noise. My three year old won't sit down for more then 5 minutes at a time so TV really isn't an issue in our house.

When she's at daycare though..Netflix and Hulu alllllllll day.
  • Netflix and Nick at Night all day everyday.
Something on TV will occasionally catch Henry's attention and he will watch for a minute or two before losing interest.
  • I have the tv on all day, we don't have internet connection in my town so I have to be happy with what's on. I have a schedule M-F for what to watch every hour/half hour.
I'm not always watching or paying attention but I like the background noise. DD has no interest in it, she prefers to stare at the lamps.
I spend a lot of time on Facebook or talking on the phone as well, but a lot of times I need both my hands to help DD eat so my boob does suffocate her.

@Court11152325 4 am posts are what keep us all from falling asleep and harming babies

    So much this
  • Tv my bff for feeds in the middle of the night
  • If anyone has Amazon Prime, I've been watching The Man in the High Castle. So good!
  • Yep. Netflix all day. I've done Jessica Jones, HIMYm (for the millionth time,) The Office, and now starting House.
  • @chaelainev - I've been binging Parenthood. It's really good.

Yes, Parenthood. It got me through a while with DS and again this time with DD as they added the last season to netflix. I just finished it yesterday morning. Before that was Jane the Virgin. I'm now looking for something new to watch during the long feeding sessions after DS is asleep.
  • @Mizuiro007 how I met your mother is good. I've heard good things about mad men and breaking bad. Lost is an oldie but a goodie. Parks and Rec is awesome after the first season and the last season is on there now.
  • Hart of Dixie is a good watch.

  • Hart of Dixie is a cute show. I'm kind of sad it's done. Nurse Jackie is a good one too. I started watching the unbreakable kimmy shmit. Its a funny show so far. Other than that, bravo tv gets me through the day. Real housewives of any city is my guilty pleasure ;).
  • TV is on here a lot. Sometimes for background noise, often for my toddler to watch while I'm nursing. Thomas, Bubble Guppies, and Daniel Tiger are on a rotation here. I will say I'm in a suburb of Chicago and we usually go somewhere in the morning but the afternoons are long since we can't play outside because of the cold. TV helps with cabin fever!
  • For all you netflix lovers..I am currently watching mad men and it awesome. Highly recommend it if you need a new show!

I don't know what bad things you heard about breaking bad... Seriously my favourite tv show ever.

And Mad Men first season is good. I stopped watching after 2nd season.

Couldn't get through Lost. I think I saw until season 3....

Haven't seen Parks and Req in its entirety yet. Just saw pieces on tv. But I have it on my list.

I have a problem with constantly rewatching tv shows... Like Office and House... greys anatomy I've been through like 12 times as well. And every so often it's time for a Harry Potter marathon.
  • These pots are makings think that I might need to get Netflix for the rest of my maternity leave!

Same here on housewives! When DW and I moved in together years ago I was asked what channels I wantes from a TV provider. My answer was Bravo. Must have Bravo. Thats all I cared about, lol.

On the days I'm home alone with LO.. He literally turns his head to watch the TV

  • Sad to say that I know the daytime tv schedule. Dawson's Creek is on syndication at 2PM...nighttime I catch up with you all or read, last night Colleen Hoover's new book released at midnight. I finished it during Jackson's 6AM feeding.

We just finished watching last night's episode of teen mom too!

And yes to Bravo, anything on Bravo.
  • I am watching the bachelor and teen mom in the middle of the night as well lol
  • My maternity leave is over Feb. 11th, so between work related tasks and our home remodel, DH and I are trying to get as much done before both of us are back to work. I am not too big on TV, other than the few shows DH and I watch during the week and football on the weekends. I can't sit and watch movies or shows for longer than 2-3 hours.  I feel like I'm wasting my day away, but that's just me.

Usually during the day while DS naps, I clean the house, surf the internet, and starting this weekend, I'll be preparing lesson plans and doing some work to get myself back into my classroom. When he's awake I read to him, rock him in the glider or I'll put him down on his activity mat and I'll play with him.
  • Gah, I can't watch Teen Mom. My niece's ex best friend was on that show (Farrah). That girl got my niece in so much trouble in high school. :/

She is a bit of a hot mess
  • Rewatched all of The Office and the Tudors already! It's all Netflix for me! Except I had to download Avatar the Last Airbender! :-D

  • I just love that Olive is still too young to be too young for my tv choices.
