Re: Weekly Check In 1/15

  • How Far Along Are You?  30 weeks

Any Baby News You'd Like to Share? Upcoming appts? What's happening in there? I'm at the point where my appointments are 2-3 weeks apart, which is great because it seems to help time move faster. At this point I just feel old AND pregnant. I'm ready to be done!

Rants/Raves/Questions/Concerns? Rant: I've been having lots of brixton-hicks this entire pregnancy, which I never experienced before, at least to this degree. I walk up the stairs-- contraction. I walk down the stairs-- contraction. I lay in bed and watch television-- contraction. I'm totally paranoid that I will think I'm in labor when I'm not! My rave is that my older sons have been amazing and helpful during this pregnancy. They won't let me carry any groceries when we go shopping, and generally have a pretty good attitude when I ask them to do the dishes after dinner. Concern wise, I'm worried that I won't be able to cope as well with labor as I did when I was (much) younger. I have this vision of myself gracefully handling my contractions, but am worried that I will be totally knocked off my feet this time!

GTKY: What are you doing to stay active and healthy in both body and mind during your pregnancy? What is something that you might have done before that you are looking forward to doing again?
I have been walking 2-3 miles a day pretty religiously since I found out I was pregnant. I know how hard pregnancy can be on your body, so I've been pretty determined to get regular exercise. I also have been doing a pretty good job of not eating much junk, but unfortunately I think it's mostly due to my lack of appetite-- most of the time nothing sounds good to me! Before I got pregnant I did my first technical mountain climb, and the previous winter I was going cross-country skiing, so I'm looking forward to having my body (at least somewhat) back to myself so I return to doing some of my favorite activities.

Any Baby News You'd Like to Share? Upcoming appts? What's happening in there? Lots of movement, despite there being absolutely no room in my uterus. My next appointment would be an ultrasound at 40+1 then induction at 40+2 if she decides to stay put.

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Concerns?
None, really. I feel good and ready to meet this little girl.

GTKY: What are you doing to stay active and healthy in both body and mind during your pregnancy? What is something that you might have done before that you are looking forward to doing again?
    Yoga, some walking, meditation.

  • @tiffanyhr I had an u/s at 5w2d and they just had me give a urine sample then did the transvaginal u/s. Same at 6w6d. I wonder why they bothered with an abdominal first for you?

Any Baby News You'd Like to Share? Upcoming appts? What's happening in there? Next u/s is on Wednesday morning - keeping everything crossed that LO's hearbeat has picked up.

Rants/Raves/Questions/Concerns? I was just out of town for a conference with lots of social events. Despite my worries, there was so much going on that no one noticed that I wasn't drinking (and I was slick about ordering seltzer with lime and the bar, which looked like a G&T). I did get a couple of awkward questions about whether we are considering #2 (from a couple of friends/colleagues that are pregnant) but I think I handled it alright. In other news, I think DP and I are going to have to cancel our romantic getaway to Puerto Rico in march b/c of the Zika virus. The CDC just put out a travel warning recommending that pregnant women avoid travel to countries with confirmed cases because of the risk of birth defects to the fetus. I'm bummed not only b/c we'll probably lose some money on the deal, but this was going to be our first (and probably last in a long time) get away without the kiddo. I'm thinking of maybe doing something more local instead - it won't be tropical, but at least it'll be some time away for us.

GTKY: What are you doing to stay active and healthy in both body and mind during your pregnancy? What is something that you might have done before that you are looking forward to doing again? I'm trying to walk at least 3 or 4 times a week and do yoga at least once a week. It's been a little challenging since the holidays because we've been traveling a bunch and have been out of our routine, but I'm ready to get back into a routine. With DS, I snow shoed every day with the dog up until the day before I gave birth and I felt incredible most of my pregnancy, so hoping for a repeat.

  • @Momona1 You are so close! That's so exciting.

@Mamafesto The Zika virus is indeed scary. It's unfortunate that you have to cancel your trip. Hopefully you will find something else to do that's still fun. I'm impressed that you snowshoed every day up until you gave birth. I find trudging through the snow to be exhausting.
  • @Mamafesto I cancelled a trip to the Virgin Islands because of the Zika virus too... Bummer but I'd rather be safe than sorry. We may travel somewhere in the U.S. instead.

@mthoomom I want to hear about your technical climbing! It probably doesn't count as "technical" I did break out my crampons for a hike today. That was fun. Good for you for doing so much walking! @Mamafesto I'm a snowshoer too. Doing my best to keep it up this winter... Almost 20 wks and doing ok so far. I'd love to feel "incredible" through my whole pregnancy!

Any Baby News You'd Like to Share? Upcoming appts? What's happening in there? My next ultrasound is a week from this Friday.  It seems SO far away.  I'm choosing to be positive and think happy thoughts about my babies.

Rants/Raves/Questions/Concerns? I've suddenly become a total cry baby.  I cry at least 5 times a day at stupid things.  Downton Abbey SPOILER ALERT - I just watched yesterday's episode and I was sobbing when Tom Branson showed up.  Seriously!  This is crazy!  I was never like this with my first.  Maybe it's the two of them teaming up to make their mama a crying mess?  Last week, I was reading a thread in my BMB (where I lurk) about "why is my pregnant self crying" and I was thinking "Wow!  I'm not emotional at all!"  HA!  Earlier I was crying thinking about writing thank you notes to my RE's staff.  Geez!

GTKY: What are you doing to stay active and healthy in both body and mind during your pregnancy? What is something that you might have done before that you are looking forward to doing again?
I've continued acupuncture since being pregnant, I color, I chase a 2.5 year old around, I'm focusing on remaining zen.  I'm really looking forward to sleeping the whole night through and pooping normally.  I'm hoping I don't have to wait till next August to accomplish these goals!!

Great to hear from everyone!  Sorry I'm so late to the party.  I worked all weekend!

  • @emsmama15 I am not a crier by nature, but this pregnancy makes me cry about everything! God help me, I watched the entire Call the Midwife series, and every night I'd have a big cry fest. Do you know that you are having twins? I remember having our first ultrasound after IVF where we were going to find out how many embryos took. It was exciting, but so nerve racking!

@redheadbride15 A pregnant lady in crampons? You are my hero! To answer your question, I climbed Mt.Hood with friends back in May (highest mountain in Oregon) and It has about 600 feet that require crampons and a rope, so therefore it's technical. It's a very accessible mountain, so lots of people climb it. It's a steep, dangerous climb, and it feels like you are climbing up a sheet of ice. Some parts of the climb were absolutely terrifying, but I completed it and I lived. I'm pretty proud of myself!
  • @mthoomom I'm impressed you hiked Mt. Hood! That's awesome! I'd love to do more hiking and climbing out west. Yes, I'm a pregnant lady in crampons. They're sort of necessary for winter hiking in the White Mountains (New Hampshire) because the rock slabs get icy. If there's enough snow cover (which we don't have yet this year) then I wear mountaineering snow shoes. I haven't done anything steep enough to require ropes or ice axes though. There are some hikes like that in NH, but I stick to the "easier" peaks in the winter (especially when pregnant!)

Any Baby News You'd Like to Share? Upcoming appts? What's happening in there?
Did my first 17P shot and I was TERRIFIED because I'd heard terrible things.  I can't say it was fun, it definitely hurt and it burned for a few hours but it wasn't as scary as I thought and I'm just relieved that I know what to expect now.  We have our anatomy scan on the 8th and I'm excited to see how much he's grown since 12 weeks!

    Rants/Raves/Questions/Concerns?
I got a respiratory infection last week (which always happens when I'm pregnant) and last time I kept going until I gave myself pneumonia for six weeks and made myself dangerously ill.  This time, I listened to my husband and my mom, I stayed home Friday, I sent my son to daycare and my parent's house overnight and I slept and slept and slept.  Then I took a shower and ate a sandwich and I slept some more.  It was pretty much the best thing that's happened in weeks, which sounds dumb but I'm guessing a bunch of pregnant women understand the sheer joy of being able to sleep until you feel better.  I felt guilty, but I also can breathe so it was worth it.

GTKY: What are you doing to stay active and healthy in both body and mind during your pregnancy? What is something that you might have done before that you are looking forward to doing again?
I have been so lazy and tired and I could be doing so much more.  My asthma always gets bad when I'm pregnant so I'm looking forward to being able to do normal things without using my inhaler.

Any Baby News You'd Like to Share? Upcoming appts? What's happening in there? I have an appointment next week, and I am sure the dreaded glucose test will be discussed at that appt! The baby is moving around like crazy, and I am loving it!

Rants/Raves/Questions/Concerns? Rant - exhaustion!!  I was feeling so great for weeks now, but the past 2 weeks I have been so tired.  I am getting good sleep, but still falling asleep on my way to work, on my way home from work and cant keep my eyes open past 9pm!  Granted I work full time and have 2 children, and I know I am "baking a human" but I am actually starting to worry that something is wrong with me!

GTKY: What are you doing to stay active and healthy in both body and mind during your pregnancy? What is something that you might have done before that you are looking forward to doing again?
I take the express bus to/from work and I have a 10-minute walk each way from the bus stop to work/home.  I also have an 8 year old and 5 year old, so they keep me on my toes once I get home and on the weekend. Trying to eat healthy, but I usually kill that idea at night!

  • @CarrieandRoy I don't think I realized how exhausted I was until I managed to sleep for um, 19 hours. I thought I would take the day off and rest and maybe read and relax but I didn't realize it was possible to sleep like that unless you're drugged.  I can tell I'm a mom though, because I did briefly have the thought of "I had a whole day home alone and I wasted it sleeping!"
