I was saving my UO from yesterday to post today.... I demand a day without retribution!
So here's a different one: the Minions didn't need their own movie. No one wants to watch a whole movie of just Jar Jar Binks or a whole TV show with just Screech.

1. I have hubby on speaker phone (he's still at work, ugh) and I'm 100% ignoring him at the moment. 2. I don't want to let the dog out because something came around the house last night and took a huge dump on our walkway. I'd rather let him pee in the house and clean it up then face whatever it is... 3. I ate an entire snack bag of ranch-flavoured Bugles and I'm not guilty at all. I also have a Dunkin' Iced Coffee. Still not guilty. 4. I haven't been on TB for two days and I feel like I'm a newb to the board because I missed so much.
I suppose my FFFC, after reading all the news of the Duggars, I just spent an embarrassing amount of time clicking link to link to link after googling the Duggars. I found myself very far in the interwebs. I'm glad I was able to crawl back out. It's a scary reality-tv-filled world out there. But, I'm also always down for Dance Moms. DH and I watch every Tuesday night. Anyone watch Child Genius? We are all about that show too, I think it's the teacher in me.
Did something else happen with the Duggars? I will admit they're a guilty pleasure of mine. They're crazy and I hate everything they stand for but when it's on, I can't stop watching! It's like a train wreck.
Reports have come out that Anna is pregnant from a overnight visit to Josh in rehab. None of the sites are that legit, but I couldn't stop reading!
Oh, I almost forgot; I also want a kitten. Hubby hates cats and has always said he'd never own one (although he's explicitly told me about three cats he's come across he wouldn't mind owning -- like, either let me think we can have a cat or stick to your "no" answer, dude), but a part of me wants to buy a bunch of stuff for a cat and adopt a cat from the shelter or a rescue and bring it home and tell him to deal with it. I half fell in love with a cuddly cat that was at Petco from the local shelter, and she wanted to come home with me and I wanted to bring her home. Along with the cat in the cage next to hers, who was also very cuddly.
I really want a savannah cat. They're like small dogs, but they're cats. I mean... Gizmo really needs a friend for when we're not home...
I just ordered food to be delivered for dinner even though I have two different kinds of leftovers in the fridge.

I side eye people that announce on FB that their beloved furbaby died and how grief stricken they are and then like one week later go out and get a new pet. I understand getting a new pet even as soon as a month, and I get people grieve in different ways, but a week? It just does not compute for me.

I'm sure some of it can be attributed to pressure from others to get a pet to "fill the hole in your heart". Growing up we always had dogs (usually 3 at a time) and any time one passed away someone would tell my mum to get another dog to take that one's place, since we were "so used to having 3 dogs". It was surprising how many people thought it was okay to tell someone who just lost a pet to get another one to take it's place ASAP.
Not to say that this is always the case. But, in weak moments, sometimes people think it'll "help".
I personally also side-eye people (like my SIL *cough*) who get an animal, raise it for 6 months, and then rehome it for whatever reason. My brother and SIL have gone through 2 cats and 3 dogs over a matter of 3? years -- usually at the insistence of my SIL. They started with a puppy, got a cat, SIL rehomed the puppy because he peed in the house, then rehomed the cat because she peed in their bed... And then got another puppy, had a kid, the dog started aggravating SIL's allergies, so she rehomed her. Got another cat, got another dog, had another kid, rehomed the dog because she wasn't happy being without constant companionship, and then rehomed the cat because she scratched one of the kids. There was some major side-eyeing and a crap ton of judging from my end.

Meh I'm one that will go out to get another asap. It helps, IMO. I can't not have a pet in the house. For me it's not about replacing the dead pet as much as always having a pet around, if that makes sense. People have to do what's right for them but I personally don't understand the point of waiting- for what? Out of respect for the dead pet? It doesn't care. If something happened to our current dog I would absolutely be a mess but I'd also look for another right away. It would distract me and give another pet a new life, and I can't think of a better way to honor a missed pet.
When one of our ferrets died the other one was noticeably devastated. He wouldn't play and just kind of wandered around the house and slept. We were worried he was going to get sick so we went out and got another the very next day. So sometimes it's for the other animals in the house too.

@DarthFuriosa I only saw them in the obnoxiously bright overheads in Home Depot. But I could see it being scary in the dark. I had to drag my husband away from the display. He wanted to buy all of them.

Same! When my cat died two years ago, it was a complete shock. He was barely 3 years old (pancreatic tumor) and was my first true fur baby (finacially speaking). Even now, I still get emotional thinking about him (he was a fucking phenomenal cat).
But when he was gone, I almost instantly wanted another. It took 3 weeks maybe and of course our new cat is nothing like our old cat but it helped patch that hole in my heart. He'll always leave a little ache in there.
@FiancB, That really does shed some light on situation that really bothered me. You do make a valid point, one of our other cats was very upset when he died. I still haven't gotten another cat though and it's been 8 months, we do have two cats and a dog though.
@misteacherlady16, my cat died in May. I still cry three times a week. Ive gone to the shelter twice, my heart just wasn't in it though.
@izza2, concur about habitual pet rehomers, and you know what actually pisses me off even more? People who only want puppies and kittens and then want to get rid of them once the kitten and puppy grows up. Then do it again, and again, and again. I judge the shit out of people that do that. Also, my trips to the shelter were totally motivated by people pressuring me to get another cat.

I think grieving is unique for every situation. When my childhood cat died (I was 23/24), I had no intention of getting another for a good while. It was probably 9/10 months before I got two little barn kittens (one of them being the cat I mentioned previously).
There's a whole story behind my cat that died recently that is just filled with self imposed guilt, which may be why I NEEDED another cat so soon after as opposed to waiting like I did with my childhood cat.
