This week's randoms

Re: This week's randoms

  • Serious headache since yesterday. I've taken Tylenol, had a bath with Epsom salt, and even tried this awful ginger drink. Anyone else have anything I can try? And after catching up on this thread, I think I will be adding pizza to this week's menu!
My cousin got migraines when she was pregnant. She said Pedialyte helped a lot, for some reason. Might be worth a try

  • @dressagedarling I've heard that dehydration can be a common cause of headaches, so maybe try to be really consistent with getting enough water in. I have a hard time stomaching water these past couple of weeks so I'll mix in a little apple juice or 1/2 gatorade, 1/2 water, just so I can get enough down.

I am so bummed that the snow completely missed us yesterday, we didn't have so much as a flurry! I was hoping for a delay so I could sleep in a little this morning...

  • @DressageDarling I'm right there with the headaches, too. Sometimes, the best solution is to take some Tylenol and go to bed.

I'm going to echo everyone else and say: hydration, a little caffeine (particularly with the Tylenol), and Tiger Balm on your temples (or the back of your neck or wherever your head is throbbing) all help.

The other thing I would suggest: keep an eye on your blood sugar -- low blood sugar can trigger headaches like nothing else. Eat regularly, make sure you're getting some protein in with the carbs (peanut butter and crackers, chocolate milk, etc. give a nice boost), and avoid blood sugar spikes.

  • Thanks everyone! It's so nice to have other pregnant ladies to ask these questions too. I only have one friend that is pregnant and she had basically no symptoms. I will definitely be trying out all of the advice.
  • @lynnlove28 It totally is. I still fit into my normal pants, but they were getting uncomfortable, and cutting into my stomach when I sat. Since I work in an office... I sit all day. Once I let the cat out of the bag at work (Friday of last week) no reason to suffer!

@Dressagedarling I also found I was getting headaches from the dry air. Saline nasal sprays have helped.

  • Just trying to bump this back up to the first page so people will (maybe, hopefully?) use this thread.
  • I think my "pregnancy brain" is officially kicked in. This week at work I have been working with a client named Ashley and I've repeatedly called her Jessica for no apparent reason! I feel so bad, she must think I'm an idiot or very rude. Or both. I even did it in an email to another client where I was arranging a call between them, so the other client called and asked for Jessica, and Ashley was like, "there's no Jessica here." Ugh.

I hope this isn't a trend because I work in a business where I have to learn a lot of new names on a regular basis.
  • Only time I will look for a corn dog maker is when I'm pregnant, apparently! It was so random but my cravings definitely led me here. Amazon Prime is both good and bad. Haha!
  • @Pepper6 Same thing happened to me yesterday! The tech tried both arms and both hands with no luck, the office was freezing, and they tried having me soak my hands in warm water, but nothing. I am scheduled to go back Monday, hopefully they can find a vein then. Your experience with your symptoms definitely sounds worse though!

  • I've read Gilmore Girls is coming to Netflix and there is going to be a two hour Friends reunion. Ahhhhh!!!

Also I learned how to gif.

  • I drive about 45 mins to work so while I'm still early in pregnancy I've put in some job applications. I feel like a terrible person for attempting to get a new job while pregnant but this commute is only going to get more annoying the further along I get.

I've heard that dehydration can make it really hard to find the veins. Could you be dehydrated?

  • For all those that gave suggestions and may still be suffering from headaches: I tried peppermint essential oil and it's amazing. I rub some on my temples and the base of my neck. Finally relief!!!
  • @Hannah0726 gifs are so fun!!

I contemplated being an AW and posting this in its own thread, because this is fantastic.
  • @texasmama2014 That article is hilarious. I was loling at the responses. It was never that easy for me in the beginning. Parenting is messy... have some baby wipes on hand. ;)

  • @justaudrey Yep.  I was never under the delusion that doing it all would be easy and my house would be spotless.  However, I have had to eat crow a few times over things I did or said or assumed!
  • @texasmama2014 I was so adamant that "my child will immediately sleep in it's crib (in it's own room) and I will NEVER let it sleep in a pack n' play". That was my one big thing that I was being naive about before kids. After a c-section and a bad case of reflux, we spent the first couple of months with the pack and play right next to the bed. Live and learn.

  • @justaudrey ...So many things... Never thought bedsharing would be my thing until my adorable good sleeper stopped sleeping at 6 months. Well, she goes to bed in her crib, but oddly enough wakes up in our bed...  Thought it was weird to bf past 1 year, here we are almost 19 months later and I can't imagine weaning...  Thought my kid would eat whatever we ate because thats the rules... Lol. You want cheese and grapes for supper again? ok...
  • @texasmama2014 I didn't think bed sharing would be my thing either but man sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! Adulting is hard enough, once you add kids to the mix it's a whole new game.
  • Bumping this back up so we will use it! And I just lurked the hell out of May, June, and July bmbs and I'm so excited for the bumps to come and when we start doing HDBD!
  • All your pizza posts are making me hungry! I've actually been craving lots of fruit which is NOT my normal thing. I'm not really a fruit eater, but at least I'm craving healthy stuff! Pizza's healthy too though. :)
  • This morning I discovered the delight of fruit infused water. Strawberry! Downed an entire 8 oz glass of water for the first time in weeks without wanting to puke. Yay!
  • @amandam925 I had had about a liter and a half of water that day, but I hadn't had anything to to drink in the couple hours right before the appointment, so that's probably it. I will chug water when I go back!

  • @Lynnlove28 I totally agree about HDBD posts! I'm also excited for this current bloat bulge to turn into something that looks like an actual bump! Haha.
  • @MSUgrad12 Yay! The more I read about it, the more interested I am. I just need to get myself on board haha
  • At 10w4d, I apparently peaked with nausea yesterday. Cue running down the hall at work....to trashcan in front of my computer....to feeling like death driving....to thanking the heavens I recently cleaned my bathroom at home. Nothing worse than ms with a dirty toilet. I eventually crashed at 7pm exhausted and drained. Positive note- I absolutely love my DH. He works graves tonight but will be cleaning out the shower drain today. :/ Apparently peanut hates spinach, salad green, and carrots (Cue horrible ms in the shower).

This got me. And here is a link to reviews for all kinds of cloth diapers. I am going with the Flip and other kinds of shell designs, this is how I got DH to get on board because with these you can use reusable or throw away inserts and you don't have to touch the inserts, just turn them over and dump them. DH was concerns about the reusable diapers when we're out and about, but is on board knowing about the throw away inserts. You can also use the shell more than once, just replacing the insets, saving you money :)

  • I woke up at 2:45 AM with heartburn. Drank a glass of milk then couldn't go back to sleep so I ended up looking at gender neutral nursery ideas on Pinterest until 5 AM. Nausea subsided but now I'm sensitive to what I eat after I'm done. Must stick with milder foods. Couple weeks ago, I couldn't sleep because I'd wake up every few hours to pee; now, it's for different reasons I can't go to bed! No bueno heartburn, no bueno.
  • My first appointment is tomorrow!! I seriously can't contain my excitement. I feel like I've been waiting soooo long for this day to come.

  • This bloodhound nose thing is a trip! Just now my husband is cleaning the countertop in the kitchen with a surface cleaner (and it's a natural one, not a chemical one) and I can smell it in the living room! And we don't have an open plan type home, the kitchen is its own room. Poor DH, I've been making him eat Altoids all the time because I can always smell whatever he last ate or drank on his breath if we're in the car or in close quarters.
  • @texasmama2014 hahaha that article is amazing. I actually laughed out loud at the "food is meant to be eaten at the table, not while running through the house" comment... Good luck with that one lady! You better be keeping your child in a high chair until the age of 10.

  • I ordered a Doppler and am so excited!

  • If anyone has cloth diapering questions, I'd be happy to help-- I CD'd my daughter from Day 2 onwards.  She's day potty-trained now, but still wears cloth at night.  We liked prefolds and covers for newborns best, and pocket diapers (Kawaii and BumGenius) best, once she was a little bigger.

  • I am planning to use cloth diapers but have no idea how to get started with a collection. When I was a nanny the family used prefolds (I think) but my hubby is more inclined to agree to something like BumGenius. I've done some google searches but get overwhelmed. Any advice is much appreciated! :)
  • If you are planning to cloth diaper right from birth (or close to it), I recommend getting a few newborn pocket or AIO (all-in-one) diapers from various brands (I think I had about 7 total, which was plenty.  You could probably have only 5 or so).  I used these at the doctor's office, etc for quick changes.  Otherwise, we found that prefolds and covers were WAY more effective for preventing leaks.  I was worried my husband wouldn't use them, because it was two steps instead of one, but once he saw the leak prevention power in action, he was sold.  ;)

Once your kid can fit into one-size cloth diapers, the leak prevention factor isn't as big of a deal because their legs are bigger, so pocket diapers are fine, and more convenient when you have a mobile baby!  I don't love one-size AIO diapers because the absorbency isn't adjustable, which becomes very relevant after the first year or so!  As they get bigger, they pee more, and you need to be able to adjust the diaper to accommodate.  I don't recommend buying a ton of one brand of diaper until you get a sense of what works on your kid.  Buy one or two of several different brands, try them out, and then if you find one you like, buy more of that brand!  The other brand we loved was TotsBots, but the rise on those diapers is shorter, so my daughter outgrew them faster.  We still have quite a bit of room in her BumGenius diapers, by contrast.

If you have specific questions as you start buying diapers/supplies, please feel free to ask them! :)

  • @court5608 what we've been doing is buying used. This has gotten us a variety, and some random cloth diapering accessories we may not have thought of, for much less than buying all new. Once we figure out what brand we like, we'll buy more (likely new) of whatever. Also - side benefit - I've been collecting tips and tricks from cloth diapering Mommas when I go to pick them up! One (wonderful) woman gave me a crash course in CD, and her cell phone, her email etc and said call her once the little is here to call her and she'll walk me through it all again, or answer any questions I have.

  • @msugrad112 They also make disposable liners! So you can use a reuseable insert, but anything solid is caught on the liner, which is flushable. Wets still go through, and you need to wash, but the liners are like $6 for a 100 pack - and FLUSHABLE which is huge for me. No poopy trash cans or wet bags to deal with, barring the odd explosion.

  • SEA BANDS. Anyone still getting slapped across the face with nausea - - - head to your closest Walgreens a pick up a pair. I am finally a functioning human again. Granted, I'm still a bit queasy around dinner time, but that's the only time I'm really affected and I haven't thrown up once with the bad boys on.
