Nava?

I posted here once before about the name Nava and I'm back for more opinions. We're Jewish and it means beautiful in Hebrew. I love the meaning and the name itself is really starting to grow on me. It sounds so sweet. It was DH's suggestion and he never has strong opinions on names so that makes me like it even more.

Her middle name would be Ruth.

Thoughts? Honest feedback is welcomed.
TIA!

Re: Nava?

  • It's different but I like it.

  • I think it's very sweet! Plus you both seem to be happy with it so stick to your gut and I say go for it!
  • Thanks for your comments! It's pronounced nah-vah (short a sound). Meant to include that in my original post.
  • Love it on its own and paired with Ruth! I would have pronounced it the way you stated as well so I don't think there would be many issues with new people pronouncing it either.
  • Very cute, and different without being too out there. Good pick!
  • Thanks for the feedback! Really appreciate hearing everyone's opinions.
  • With your heritage I think it's a great name and very pretty.
  • I was pronouncing it wrong and didn't like it, but I love it pronounced nah-vah...so pretty!
  • Nice unique choice. I think you/she will have to deal with some mispronunciation but in general I don't think it will be a problem. I like it.
  • I like it & that's exactly how I was pronouncing it.
  • I think it's very pretty.

  • Thanks so much everyone for commenting. It's really helpful to hear about how Nava would be received among people who are not familiar with the name and are not sure of pronunciation.
  • I like it, would guess pronunciation was NAH-vah, nah as is Natalie
  • Thanks everyone! Anybody else have any feedback? I'd love to hear what more people think.
  • Love it. At first I was thinking "Hmm sounds like Navajo cut short" but when you hear the meaning I immediately loved it. Your little girl would have such a nice story to her name.

So I'm Jewish and am familiar with this name. It's really great because I think it's prettier than, say, Tovah or Elisheva. Like a "Sheva" I know got called "shovel" a lot because kids are assholes. Nava is harder to rip on.

In other words, I like it because my personal preferences.
  • Was glad to see the pronunciation was the way I 'heard' it in my mind. I thought it was pretty, and with the meaning is now more so. Nice choice

Same. I like the meaning of it, but I could see high school turd buckets calling her "Nava-ho". But, high school turd buckets can make a mean name out of anything, honestly. If you love it I would use it.

  • @SnarkasaurusRex ugh that totally seems like something kids would do. You're right though they will make a mean name from pretty much anything.

So true. Kids that want to be mean will be mean, no matter what the name is. I'm an Ashley and this one brat tried to get everyone to call me Ash-hole. It definitely wouldn't deter me from using a name, though.
