FTM what are you wearing to your baby shower?

I'm having such a hard time finding anything nice to wear to my shower. Most maternity dresses are so boring! Any suggestions on where to find a dress? What are you wearing?? Thanks...

  • My favorite maternity dresses are from Seraphine and Isabella Oliver. Check them out. That being said I wore some cheap dress with a stork print to my shower because I thought it was funny.

  • Im not the chic dressed pregnant lady I thought I would be. I basically live in yoga pants and hoodies. I have a shower next weekend, and I ordered a maxi dress and a white cardigan to wear with it. Idk how it will look, it should be here in a few days. Got it from motherhood maternity. I agree though, that almost everything maternity wise is boring.....boring and expensive.
  • I had three showers with my first. To the shower hosted by my MIL, I wore a maxi dress and sweater. The dress was from Motherhood, the Jessica Simpson line, and I borrowed it from my SIL since she was also pregnant and got a discount working at Macy's. I am borrowing the same dress this time around, super comfy and its cute. To my work shower I wore what I wore to work that day. And to the co-ed shower hosted by our friends, I wore a pink top for DD and jeans, since it was a laid back BBQ...

I am having two showers. I'm not the chic pg lady either. I like to be comfortable. On a regular basis I don't generally wear dresses so I definitely haven't while pregnant. I do wear maxi skirts sometimes so that's probably what I'll wear to the in-law thrown shower, a maxi skirt. My family/friend shower will be jeans most likely.

  • Same here, I've had difficulty finding anything semi-cute. Everything looks so homely. Try Asos maternity, I've found some cute things there.
  • With DD, I wore a grey maxi skirt, nice maternity t-shirt and a pink scarf. We laughed when I got there because both MIL and SIL were also in grey maxi skirts and white tops :)

  • I have a blue dress with white dots all over that I'll wear for it. It's either that or my standard LBD that I will wear until it fall apart lol (As seen in my maternity pictures)
  • Ugh I'm dealing with this struggle right now. I'm ordering a few normal (not maternity) stretchy long-sleeve bodycon dresses to see if I can get away with that and some stockings with boots. Otherwise I'll probably go with a fitted tank, a long flowy cardigan, nice jeans/leggings and boots. The shower being hosted for me isn't super formal so I can go either way.

UGH YES TO THE BORING AND EXPENSIVE. Maternity clothes are much more flattering for the pregnant body.. But goodness I don't want to spend $30 on a plain black maternity shirt when I can spend $10 on a plus size shirt from the clearance rack. It's just not as flattering -.-
  • My friend bought a flowery dress from H&M when she was pregnant last year, and thankfully passed it on to me! Hello Sisterhood of the Travelling Maternity Pants! Anyhoo - I wore it on a date night, and loved it! So I'll probably wear it for my shower. The outfit I'm more worried about is what to wear for maternity pics!
  • I wore the same dress that I wore for some of my maternity photos for my baby shower. In general, I prefer non-maternity clothes. The dress shown is actually from Victoria's Secret.

  • While it could change at any moment, I plan on wearing a nice pair of maternity jeans and a pretty, flowy top with some pretty jewelry.  I want to look nice, but comfortable, and I feel like something like that gives me both.

  • Asos maternity has some cute stuff as well as Lulus and pink blush maternity but I can't decide and on top of that I'm 5'10" and most maxi dresses are too short on me.
I have this one ( non maternity) I'm thinking this one could work . I've only worn it a few times and there's plenty of belly room.
  • I thought there were some cute dresses at Motherhood but I can't spend that much money so I ordered one for 14 dollars from Target. It isn't that interesting of a dress really but it looks like it could be comfortable, although if it ends up not fitting I am going to wear jeans and a maternity shirt because it's probably not that big of a deal what I am wearing anyway.

Insert heart-eye emoji here. I would trade in my leggings for a day to wear that dress.
  • Thanks ! @AmadorRose I got it a few years ago at a shop in Chicago called akira. Soon as I tried it on and it hit the floor I was sold.
  • It's so tough to predict! My showers aren't until March, and it's the Midwest so it could be beautiful spring weather or still the dead of winter. If it's warm enough, I have a pretty green and white maxi dress that's super springtimey, which I'll pair with a nice cardigan.  If it's chilly, I'll probably make do with a sweater dress and some leggings.
  • KOHLS has some decent dresses. I don't feel comfortable wearing strapless and I am not tiny. I think my belly is bigger with this second pregnancy, I just feel blah in everything! But black is always a good choice, so I have a Liz Lange Maternity dress I bought at a resale shop for ten bucks. It's a classic wrap dress. So I made sure I had two options. It's hard for me to guess how much bigger I will be by March, which is when my shower is.
  • Pink Blush Maternity has been my guilty pleasure lately. They have some super cute tops and dresses I'm eyeing up for my shower.
  • I'm really glad I'm not doing a shower again. DH and I are talking about doing a pre-baby BBQ to get everyone together, but that would be super casual. I'm agonizing over maternity photos instead. I love doing them. They capture a little moment in time that I'll never get to relive. Of course the dress I've been looking at is way more than what I should be spending at the moment... Maybe once these new medical bills are gone.

  • I'm having a hard time deciding what to wear too! I definitely cheaped out on maternity clothes. Got the bare minimum basics for everyday, I felt like I needed to be spending the money on baby stuff and not me. I think I might have a basic dress that might work with leggings and boots.
  • It has been decided yesterday that my baby shower is also going to be more of a luau (because who doesn't love giant Hawaiian parties) so I will wear a traditional muumuu

Girl I thought you were going to go with a hula outfit and I was in stitches! Also, I had no idea what an actual muumuu is, and they are a lot prettier than people make them out to be XD

I bought this dress on clearance yesterday, but I'm undecided on whether I'll wear it for the shower or not. Shower will be outside in late February, so it could be 55 or could be 75. I think I could dress it a few different ways so it would work either way, but I may switch to jeans and a cute top.

(Please ignore my boots and work pants, DH had to zip my boots for me yesterday so no way were those puppies coming off!)

Oh wow! I really hate purple, but that dress is adorable!
  • @Knottie9983816 thanks! I actually love purple, and I was excited to find a cute dress that wasn't just blue or pink. I wanted to wear something on the girlier side for my shower without being in screaming hot pink (or black), which seems to be 90% of the options. The dress was a lot cuter in person than it looked online, for once!

  • @AEG84  I love the color!!! And I hear you about 55 or 75... we are the last weekend of Feb outside, and I'm praying this stupid cold weather goes away!!
  • I'm currently stressed about what to wear to 1) my friend's bridal shower in 2 weekends, 2) my baby shower and 3) my friends wedding which is 3 weeks before my DD.  Thanks for all the tips!
  • You guys have some adorable dresses picked out, but I want to bring up something you might not have thought about. For those of you wearing dresses on the shorter side, keep in mind that you'll be opening gifts for a while, and probably people will be taking pictures, and there's a decent chance that you will be big enough that it will be very difficult to sit like a lady with your knees together the whole time. Lessons learned from a close friends, who's shower pictures had a surprising amount of underwear shots.

Simple black maxi dress would work out amazing for a wedding. All you have to do is dress it up with assessories. I wore a sleeveless maxi dress to a family friend's wedding in June 2014 (the ceremony was outside and beyond hot out) when I was 37 weeks pregnant with DS1. I wore a navy maxi dress at a wedding in October, but the purpose of that one was to hide my pregnancy.

Here's hoping for cooler weather so I can wear tights underneath! If not, I guess I'll designate a friend to be on panty watch!

I second a simple black dress. I seriously contemplated it until I saw the price of the pink dress. ASOS Maternity has some good options (knee length & maxi) in different styles for $50 or less. Great to accessorize while still looking chic.

Bah ha ha, Panty Patrol! Oh I would have never thought about this!!

Soooo I realize opening gifts in front of everyone is traditional... but how do you get out of this?! Our shower is at a brewery, and I'd much rather open things at home!

@allaire314, I think you will have disappointed guests unless you somehow let them know ahead of time. (I've seen requests to bring unwrapped gifts so that the mom-to-be can enjoy the shower by spending time with guests...not sure if that's "acceptable" etiquette but seems reasonably polite.) I'd be kind of ticked if I showed up with a wrapped gift and it wasn't opened while I was there - half the fun is getting to watch the recipient open the gift. The other option would be to open up gifts as people show up, but if you get a big influx that could get hectic.
