  I don't think there's any side-eye here, but I personally would use Katherine if I wanted Katie as a daily nickname. I actually like Cate for Catherine, but I know it's not the same as Katie.

  For Catherine I'd spell nicknames Cate or Katie/Kati

  I prefer the Catherine spelling and would do Cate or Katie as the nn.  I wouldn't be shocked to learn Katie was Catherine with a C.  I have known a few.

  My middle name is Catherine but as you can see from my SN I shorten it to Kate. I don't see any issue with it.

  I don't see a problem with spelling it with a C and NN with a K. If the future queen of England can do it, so can you.

  I think it could be either but normally what I have seen or know, Catherine is Cate or Catie and Katherine is Kate or Katie.

  Another option is Kathryn (my mother's name), with the nn Katy/Katie.
