Just a wee update from me- it was a very unstressful appointment! Hb of 155... Great to hear bubs and feel reassured. My OB recommended chlorstripolin (her writing is wacky but that's what it looks like) for my cold. Hope I sleep better tonight.
For those who have had an anatomy scan before...did your instructions include drinking 32 oz of water an hour before the exam? How on Earth did you hold it? How long was your exam? My exam is tomorrow and my instructions say to drink this much water and I just called the doctor's office to confirm it just now. The nurse was empathetic and told me that 20 oz would "probably" suffice 20-30 minutes before the exam but holy hell! I can barely hold 8 oz every 30 minutes. She (the nurse I talked to) didn't know if the tech would let me use the bathroom after they check the cervix but before they conduct the rest of the exam. Any experience here?

I always drink WAY less water than they say. The first time I had a US I drank the recommended amount and I was in tears by the time I got there and had to be excused to go let out "just a little" (so hard!). Now I just drink enough to feel like I kinda need to pee. Once it wasn't enough and I had to go drink a glass of water and wait a bit but nbd.

I haven't had mine yet, but I was instructed not to worry about having a full bladder for that one, but to make sure I have breakfast first (mine is at 8am on the 29th). The last u/s I had for the NT scan I drank the full 32oz & was basically in tears by the time I got there, & then the tech made me empty my bladder anyways. 32oz is definitely way too much for me to handle, so if I ever have to show up with a full bladder for one again I will be drinking much less.

My OB brought this up at my appointment yesterday. He said they were going to call me to schedule and tell me to drink 32 oz of water like an hour before. He said that was ridiculous and to empty my bladder completely an hour before and drink a regular 16 oz bottle right after that and that'd be plenty to "make my eyeballs swim." Lol. I did the 16 oz before my NT and I was dying. There's no way I could do 32 oz.
Thanks ladies. I think I'll be drinking 16 oz on the car ride over to the exam and call it a day. If that isn't enough, I can always drink more there and wait hopefully. I would like to enjoy the exam somewhat instead of being in pain...I only get this ultrasound and the one I had at 8 weeks (which was like 5-8 minutes) for viability.
@DeePaddy24 - good point about breakfast. I plan on eating something too before the exam.
@ahernandez16 - I'm glad your OB warned you...mine did not!
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Just feeling tired, itchy and sore. My husband wants me to walk 15 minutes a day...to which I responded "I work two jobs and never have a full day off so I'm sorry if I don't feel like exercising!?"
What are you doing to prepare for baby? started our registry, bought paint for the nursery and have purchased tons of baby clothes!
Questions? I just scheduled my 20 week anatomy scan and was told I must drink 32 ounces of water an hour before and not go pee. Umm. Lol. Has anyone had their appointment yet? Curious how I'm supposed to hold my pee while they push on my stomach and bladder for god knows how long.
GTKY: How long have you and your SO been married / together? We have been together for 12 years (since high school) and have been married for 5.
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? I drove 45 minutes to work this morning only to realize I don't work today - I blame pregnancy brain. I suddenly have a very strong gag reflex and will almost vomit with bad smells.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Just had some friends over this weekend to paint the nursery. Have moved our guest room to make space for the nursery and minor renovations in the guest bathroom.

@mkemommy I was in the same boat as you before my anatomy scan--freaking out about being told to arrive with a full bladder! I did not follow the rec to drink 32 oz (knowing I'd be bursting) but instead do what a PP said and just drank a little bit beforehand and felt like I had to pee, but not terribly. It was completely doable, and for my exam, they did about 25-30 minutes abdominally, then had me empty my bladder so they could measure the cervix. I hope that helps.
Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Feeling pretty good today. Had my 16 week appointment yesterday and everything looks good. Haven't gained any weight yet, but am showing a little.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Have a little registry and have to finish cleaning out the spare room.
Questions? nope
GTKY: How long have you and your SO been married / together? We met online almost 5 years ago and have been married for 1.5 years.
About the ultrasounds. I have my anatomy scan in two weeks. They didn't tell me this time to drink water, but the last two I did. My eight week one I threw up all the water/cranberry juice I drank in the parking lot. They were able to get what they needed. My 12 week NT scan I drank 12 ounces and had to pee once I got there, then I drank a little more, and again it was fine.
For my anatomy scan I'll drink what I can and see how it goes.
