Room sharing

Ok, not trying to start a debate because I know a lot of moms on here are very pro-bed-sharing, but right now I don't see bed-sharing as best for my family. However I do think we will want to room share past the newborn stage (maybe even 9 months to a year).

So my question is.. Has anyone room-shared past the newborn stage but not bed-shared? If so, where did your baby sleep? I have a co-sleeper bassinet for him but he will outgrow it within a few months. I need something in our room for him to sleep in after that, but I don't have space for a full-size baby bed in there. I've looked at bigger bassinets, but most reviewers say their babies outgrew them in 6 months. Hoping there's something out there I haven't found yet!!

Re: Room sharing

  • We have our crib side car next to the bed. Right now she sleeps on her swing due to reflux when she's flat but eventually I'll have her beside me in the crib.

  • We had our baby's crib in our room. We never used a bassinet. I ended up bed sharing, but we had planned to use the crib in our room until a year.

  • So we're at 10 and a half weeks here and currently use the convertible P&P. In another couple weeks DD will go from the bassinet to th raised level for quite some time as I have full intent to room share for *at least* 6 months if not longer. After she out grows that we'll either do the regular PP or move the crib in if it's still what we're looking to do.
  • My 5 week old sleeps in a detached bassinet in our room. I plan on keeping him there until he outgrows it then its time to move to his room. I had never heard of converting a crib side car! Pretty neat if thats what you want. That would be too much furniture for me! & I have a pretty large master. Lol
  • A lot of people use a PnP. We used a RnP by the bed until DD was about 3 months old but H and I wanted our room back and she was a noisy sleeper!

  • My son slept beside our bed in a Rock n Play until 5 months or so. After that he was sidecarred to my side of the bed (between my side and the wall) in the bassinet portion of his PnP until 9 months. He never once tried to climb out. Transition to his crib in his own room was a total non-issue and he's still in his crib at 27 months.

  • If you have room for a PnP, but want something a little more permanent feeling, we use a mini-crib and I love it. Ours even can rock like a cradle!

How long can a baby sleep in a PnP? Sorry I'm new to baby gear! Ha

  • Hi there I kept ds in our room untill he was almost 14 months he was 31 weeker so I was extra paranoid we did occasionally bed share bit . We had him in his bassinet until about 6 months then transitioned into a pnp and he slept sound and transitioned well into his crib. They do make snaller pnp we have one at my parents its getting a little tight for him now he's about 20lbs.
  • Sorry my text was a little sloppy !
  • There are several options to co sleeping besides bed sharing. You can side car the crib, there are bassinets that fit into your bed, use a pack n play, etc. My pack n play came with a bassinet attached. When baby grew out of that, we unattached it (I kept ours in the living room). A baby can sleep in a regular pack n play for a while. I know my daughter took naps in one at daycare until 18 months.
