Baby Names

Boy name with a M

Hi Everyone!

We are expecting our first child in about 3 months. A baby boy! However we still can't decide on a name. I realize even if we pick a name now things may change when he arrives, however I'd love to hear some suggestions and thoughts from others. Maybe someone comes up with an idea we haven't thought of yet!

Background:
We name after the dead. In this case we are naming after my Father who passed when I was only 18. His name was Martin (Marty). I do NOT want to use that name as it's "too weird" to have the same exact name. I just don't feel comfortable. But we are sticking with "M" for the first name.

As for middle name my wife had suggested Samuel. As I found out there is no significance to that name. It's simply one she liked. She would be open to any other middle name. So feel free to suggest one if you would like to.

Dilemma:
Not sure which name to pick. Personally, I like Matthew (Matt) but the wife does NOT so this is out. I also thought about Micheal but she does not like it. Below are some names we are thinking of. What are your thoughts? Does anyone have another suggestion?? Remember the middle name can be changed too.

Mark Samuel (this was the first choice by wife. But after I suggested we think about other names she sort of changed her mind)

Maxwell/Max Samuel (this is the one she is thinking of now. Perhaps different middle name though. Not sure how I feel about Maxwell. I tend to like just Max. But not sure I like this name)

We had also thought about Morgan, but I think that's officially out by now.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Opinions. I'd love to hear from others. And remember, if you have a better middle name I'd love to hear it.

Re: Boy name with a M

  • I really like both Mark and Maxwell and they both compliment Samuel. I don't hate Max as a standalone and know a few adults with their full name just Max.  I personally prefer it as a nickname though.

    Some other M names

    Mitchell
    Marcus
    Marshall
    Micah
    Malcolm
    Miles
    Milo

You never know what someone else might like.

Besides, Malachi, a similar name of similar origin, is fairly popular in usage, having been in the top 200 since 2003.

I did forget to suggest Malachi.
  • Mordecai Samuel would be a bit much. But that would be a great name to use Marty with!

    Love Miles
    Moshe
    Mitchell
    Marcus

Yeah this is actually a pretty normal name in my experience.
  • Sorry, just never heard of it. We are not a religious family. Malachai/Malakai is much better though!

It's cool. We all stumble across a name at one time or another that makes go

  • What about Maximilian? You still get Max but it is a fuller name.
  • You don't state it, but im assuming you are a male unless otherwise informed. You are getting the first and last name to honor your side, I'd let her keep the middle name and stop trying to change it. Just because a name doesn't have personal significance doesn't mean it's unworthy, and it will be significant when it belongs to your child.

You seem to like very traditional M names which is perfectly fine, so here's a few:

    Malcolm Samuel
    Marcus Samuel
    Mark Samuel
    Mario Samuel
    Mason Samuel
    Micah Samuel
    Mitchell Samuel

    This.

Previous posters have brought up some very good M names, tho I've got no qualms about either Mark or Maxwell. I like Mark a bit better, but not overmuch.

Also liked and mentioned already - Matthias, Miles, Mitchell, Marshall (tho that last reminds me a bit of the store)

  • I would love Malachai if it wasn't for the children of the corn reference.

    I like Max and Mateo.
