Thoughts on Ridgely

I'm 32 weeks and team green. DH and I have some normal names on the short list (Brooke, Elyse, Kelsey, Cody) but we really like the name Ridgely for a girl. We are not agreeing on many names. Honestly I have not really looked into the name so it could be made up for all I know. A few nights ago we were eating out and it was the name of our waitress.

  • I don't like Ridgely at all. I did some quick googling and it looks made up.

Stick with Brooke, Elyse (I prefer Elise to get away from the Y trend) or Kelsey.

Dude, that name is terrible. ESPECIALLY for a girl. Don't do that to her.
  • It's pretty awful. Brooke and Elise are lovely and Kelsey isn't bad either. Even Cody is better than Ridgely.
  • It's really bad and definitely completely made up.  I know naming can be hard, but I think choosing a "normal" name for your child will make their life easier in so many ways.  The other names that you have mentioned are much better.

I thought this was a boy question looking at your heading question.
I'd also toss Cody at this point.
The girl names you selected are lovely.
  • That name is really bad- especially for a girl. The only name on your list I really like is Elise (drop the Y - So trendy.) otherwise Brooke is OKAY. Kelsey is nms but way better than Cody - don't do that to your daughter.

  • 1. I also thought that you were going to say it was for a boy.
    2. Its made up.
    3. I agree with the previous poster that it sounds like a condom.
    4. Your other choices are great! Although I like Elise with the "i" better. The "y" looks like it is following the weird "lets add a y to everything that is an i" trend.

  • Totally made up awful.
  • Glad to hear it about Cody. Naming kids is so hard! You might enter the names you like into name matchmaker if you want more selections that are your style. Google it.
  • Elise by a landslide.
  • It's pretty terrible especially for a girl. It's my friend's last name.

  • Glad you changed your mind.

    I vote Brooke :)

  • Terrible.
    I like Elise.
  • Ridgley? Is that a serious question?
  • Ridley? No. My middle name is Elise with an I. It looks nice than the Y. Brooke is nice too
  • I'm not a name expert, but I would definitely vote that it's a made-up name.  And I assumed that you were talking about a boy before I even saw the post.  I would 100% keep looking!

  • Bear in mind that waitstaff routinely make up names for their badges for privacy and fun. It most likely was a nickname, last name, or a made up name. If it WAS her real name, still not a very good one to perpetuate. I LOVE Elise and Brooke from your list.
  • It's bad. Don't do it.

  • Nope. I think you're trying to be unique and failing to do so with this name.
  • Brooke and Elise are our top names now. Just have to decide between those two.
  • Brooke and Elise are both really nice choices and you really can't go wrong.

I would maybe give the edge to Brooke since it's declining in usage.  I love Elise but with everyone looking for E names to get the nn Ellie, it has a stronger change of gaining popularity in the next couple years.

  • I love Brooke. So glad you tossed Kelsey....
