Disinfect Toys

Our friends came over with their one year old and 3 year old today, both who are sick. My LO is just getting over her first cold. The one year old had my daughters favorite cloth rattle in her mouth most of time and dragged it on floor while crawling with it. Also coughed on it. What's the best way to disinfect it? My daughter also loves to mouth it, so I want it clean before I give it to her again. I'm nervous to put in wash because it's both rattle and it squeaks when pressed. But i don't know if wipes are enough since its cloth (I use Dapple wipes). Any tips? Thanks!

Re: Disinfect Toys

  • I'd bring a pot of water to a boil on the stove, remove from heat, then dunk for 30secs to 1min.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have been using baby lysol spray on a paper towel and then wipe toys and let them air out for a bit. I know some people don't like it because of harsh chemicals and what have you but it kills cold and flu viruses. The baby one smells like baby powder. Only sold at baby stores like buy buy baby or babies r us though.
  • If it's cloth I'd throw it in the wash!!! Any other toys can go in the dishwasher with baby dish washing pods

Bigger stuff can be sprayed down with babyganics toy disinfect spray
  • You could always hand wash in the sink and then dry. My mom used to put things in the freezer too but I have no research to support such things!
  • First of all @Plumeria1214 why would she come over with 2 sick kids?! I'd be furious...I just received 2 huge boxes of toys from my SIL and am going to throw what I can in the washing machine. If they get ruined, they get ruined - I didn't buy them so I wouldn't be too upset. The rattles and things I am going to boil a pot of water like PP said and dunk in for a minute or two. As for bigger items maybe I'll get baby Lysol too and wipe with hot soapy water.
  • Um... yeah, boil the h*** out of it!! Eew.
