I don't know any Irises. And I think it's a lovely name.

I'm a music teacher (I meet at least 80 kids a year) and I've never had a student named Iris. We would have considered it for our daughter if we didn't have an aunt named it.
My daughter (3) is Iris. I live in an area where her name gets good feedback and seems in line with trends in baby names. That said, we've never met another outside an older woman I knew as a kid. My sister had an Iris in her baby music class a couple towns away and had to call to tell me all about it. It has crept up the ss list a few spaces in the past years but it's pretty uncommon in my area.
My 7 yo is named Iris. Before that, I knew of someone that is now about 40 with the name. I became friends with my husband's old classmate's wife whose 1.5 year old is Iris, when they moved to our area and their Iris was a baby. I just looked up its popularity last night (to compare it to popularity of names I'm considering with this LO) and it's not super common but has climbed about 100 spots since my dd was born. We get a lot of wonderful comments on how beautiful her name is.
Re: How real life popular is the name Iris?
Iris represents 0.068 percent of total female births in 2014.
It's really not that popular. I know one IRL and it's the only one I have ever met.
