2nd Trimester

Sharp pain on lower right

18 weeks along. I'm having some really sharp pains ony lower right side especially when I pee. Enough to make double over and have trouble getting up. Then that area is tender to the touch. I have an OB appt on Monday but not sure if I should go in earlier. Maybe just round ligament strain?

I know I know. I shouldn't ask the Internet. Just thought someone would have felt something similar.

Re: Sharp pain on lower right

  • Are you drinking enough water? Are you prone to UTIs or kidney infections? Before and during pregnancy I dealt with those issues and that sounds like what you're describing. If your doctor has an after-hours number, call that for peace of mind. If they don't, you might call urgent care. I wouldn't rush into a hospital but keep an eye on it. Do you have a fever?

  • No fever. I've had UTI's before and a kidney infection once but not particularly prone. It doesn't feel like a UTI. It's not that burning urethral thing and frequent urgency. It's just like the bladder itself is site. So if it empties it is excruciating.

Maybe haven't drank enough water today. Will chug some now.
  • I get bad cramps after I pee sometimes also and my doctor said it's normal. Make sure you stay super hydrated and try to rest if you can. Obviously I'm not doctor but if you have an appointment Monday I'd just take it easy tomorrow if you can.
  • I had a similar feeling and as if my bladder wasnt emptying all the way. Turns out it was a UTI but without the usual symptoms. Im starting to feel some discomfort again so hopefully i can get checked again at my appointent tomorrow. It comes and goes right now and usually feel it at night if i lay on my right. Maybe its just baby laying on something. Iv never had a kidney infection so idk what that feels like

    Hope you feel better soon!!
  • Kidney infections are awful. It's really bad back pain. But internal. Not muscular. And you feel terrible overall. Good to know UTI symptoms can be different. And very glad I gave a doc appt tomorrow. Thanks ladies!
  • I had the same pain and it turned out to be a cyst on my ovary. Don't let that freak you out because they are apparently quite common in pregnant women. They are almost always harmless and disappear on their own.

  • Sounds like it could be round ligament pain, which is more commonly felt on the right side.
  • Yep. Had my appt today and the doc was pretty sure it was round ligament related. Though she also thought it might be fibroid related too. Luckily it's subsided.
  • I have been told that those are round ligament pains. But of course, consult with your doctor. I try and workout some and it has really helped.

  • i think the working out aggravated it.  or it was not round ligament at all and was a fibroid dying.  the ultrasound person thought it might be that.  who knows!  don't care.  baby is healthy and it's not hurting right now!  yippeee!
  • I second the suggestion of possible round ligament pain.  Round ligament pain has been my nemesis during my 2nd trimester and it is always on the lower right side.  Very annoying and can be both a dull or sharp pain.
Bring it up at your next appointment.  Good luck!

  • Uti's can very in symptoms from case to case and in some there will be no pain even. I'd suggest not a bad thing to look into also did they ever find any cysts on your ovaries? If so it could be growing but I wouldn't worry about that if they have never mentioned one to you before. Also round ligament pain is really strong at times and can be on one side. If it doesn't last very long and is around quick or sudden movements such as sitting down to the toilet rolling over, standing it is most likely that. :)
