  • @thaisac1 they say Americans have the most expensive urine in the world, since the majority of supplements taken are really just waste products :)

@Knottie9983816 Your pee is actually brown? Not dark yellow? A gallon of water daily should be quite sufficient... Have you recently started any new vitamins or anything? Even just a different brand? Since actual brown urine could be a sign of liver disease, this is a time it's worth pressing the issue with your doctor.

Very dark yellow, I guess. I haven't changed anything up. Might just stop by tomorrow and see if I can speak to a nurse in person.
Following up @mojomama6 's comment, if it's dark yellow then it's concentrated, somehow you may still need more water... Or...Are you taking a different multivitamin? Some vitamins of the B complex will notoriously make urine darker yellow. If you want to see whether this is the case, stop your vitamins for a few days and monitor the urine color.

Liver disease will make the urine the color of Pepsi, not darker yellow, but by the time that happens a person will also be jaundiced and will likely also have clay-colored stools.

Just as a follow up, I quit taking my prenatal all together, and the issue cleared itself up. I'm not really sure why it wasn't affecting me before the six month mark, but I eat a fairly well balanced diet (usually two different veg per meal, as well as a fruit once a day) so I'm not as worried about getting extra vitamins at this time. Also, dark yellow urine out of nowhere is not fun to me, and I'd rather not risk a random reaction to another kind.

Side note, did you know vitamins are not regulated well enough to actually ensure they have the ingredients the label says they do? Not really worth the hype imho…

Yup. There was a big scandal earlier this year about how 80% of the vitamins and supplements sold in pharmacies/ supermarkets actually do not contain what they claim to contain.

People who eat normal diets to not need vitamins and supplements. Period. I tell this to my patients all the time, but people are really obsessed with their supplements! Many refuse to take real medicines in lieu of supplements (which are not studied and not regulated).

Women trying to conceive and pregnant need more folate, iron and calcium so it is reasonable to supplement these during these specific times.

Just read this as eat more Kale and broccoli smh

  • That's all I take. Plus cod liver oil every other day because I have notoriously low vit D levels.
Eat a rainbow of food everyday with some quality protein and we'll be good. I have learned so much about nutrition since my first thyroid storm and it is truly amazing what a good diet will do for your body.

@kalanieileen I've never taken it myself but have experience with it due to my profession. Yes it should help your heartburn. I've never had a patient had a side effect to it. It's a very benign drug in that regard.

Thank you! I started taking it maybe a day or two after I posted about it and it has done WONDERS! I can't remember the last time I was reaching for my Tums!

I have constant diarrhea. And I just feel like I've got some kind of bug all the time. I'm only 7 weeks. Please tell me this gets better.
My Dr is aware and not worried

    I'm the opposite!
  • So.. I've noticed the last few mornings, my legs HURT when I wake up.. Like I walked a ton in heels in my sleep. DH says no thrashing/crazy dreams. Anyone else experience anything like that? I feel like I'm hydrating, so I don't know what it could be.
  • @misstopsail I was having that type of pain, but it has gone away and is now replaced by awful pelvic and SI joint pain no matter how I lie. I chalk it up to just being pregnant.
  • I'm 24 weeks and can not sleep at all! I'm not uncomfortable or anything, I'm just not tired. I lay in bed for hours until I finally manage to get a couple of hours in... it has been fine the past couple of weeks with Christmas break, but school starts back tomorrow (I'm a teacher), and I'm a little nervous about running on 3 hours of sleep! Any tricks y'all use to fall asleep?

Oh, and I've been working out a bit more... I would have thought it would make me more tired, but I almost think it's the opposite.
  • Gestational diabetes. Failed two of the four blood draws. Probably manageable with diet and exercise. Everyone I know is shocked because I have 0 risk factor... Other than very little Native American genes... I know it can happen randomly to anyone, but I'm still bummed.

What time are you working out at? Are you using screens before or while lying in bed? Do you have a body or pregnancy pillow?

Ouch :( I added an extra blanket last night, and it seemed to help.. Maybe it was a circulation thing for me. Of course, I woke up on my back, and when I rolled to the side, I had a massive pain on my left side.
    Pregnant women can't win!

I do stay on my phone way too long. Once I lay down I try to put it away... I've been working out at random times since we've been on break, but now I will be working out around 4 or 5 since I'm back on schedule.

Outside of pregnancy, artificial light(screens), working out too late (past 7 or so), and caffeine intake later in the day are the biggest culprits for insomnia. In pregnancy, I've noticed that it's just very hard to get comfortable, so while I go to bed exhausted, after an hour or two I just kind of lay there and try to rest. Also, using a body or pregnancy pillow makes a huge difference!

I had this exactly! I would just lay there and wish I was feeling tired but I was wide eyed. This started at 23 weeks and lasted until about 26 weeks (I'm almost 28 weeks now). I found reading and having a warm bubble bath before bed seemed to help put me into a sleepy mood. Pregnancy pillow definitely helped..my eyes close as soon as my head hits the pillow lol.

I think I'm just so excited for this LO to come that it makes it harder to sleep :)

I agree!! There is so much to think about and research and get ready... I can't handle the excitement!
  • I too have had trouble sleeping only in the last few days.... I'm 27 weeks. Is it April yet?
    C + N 8.3.13
    Baby due April 6!
  • So my nipples are burning... Like every time they get hard (it's cold now, hush) they hurt like hell, and I can't do anything to make them stop! Warming them up to reduce swelling doesn't do anything for me, as it just stimulates them further... I was leaking breast milk for a little while, but haven't had anything like that happen for a few weeks now. (I'm going to see my Dr in a week, and I'll ask him then as well, but I'd appreciate the onsite beforehand!)

Is this going to be a preview for horrible breastfeeding experience???

    Will they toughen up?

Am I doomed to feel like icy hot is always on my poor boobs????

Is this an actual symptom I just haven't heard about?
  • @Knottie9983816 the only thing I know is that they will toughen up once LO starts eating.

Unrelated question: other than a support band, is there anything I can do about this pelvic pressure? It's not killer but I'd like to be a bit more comfortable, if possible.
  • @Knottie9983816 I associate burning nipple pain with thrush (yeast). Are your nips by any chance also extra red, shiny, or peeling? I didn't always have those symptoms, but they're quite common. Cream meant for your vagina used on the nipples is probably easiest and fastest route to relief for thrush (although if used while breastfeeding, it must be cleaned off very thoroughly before feeding).
Nursing with thrush hurts like a bitch, but one prenatal infection doesn't mean you'll definitely have it again.

At my last check up, the nurse practitioner asked if my breasts are always this red. I was super confused, as I hadn't noticed anything, but lo and behold, the undersides of my breasts were quite pink. She said to stop wearing bras and call in if it got worse. Well almost a week later, bra-free, and they're still pretty pink - though not worse. It doesn't itch, burn, or hurt in any way, though it is a little warmer to the touch than the top of my belly.

Any idea what might be causing this?
Could it be a yeast infection? I personally have never experienced it, but I know my mom, who is very large breasted, told me she's had several on the underside of her breasts and she's even had to have medication for it before. I'm not sure what all you can do for it besides let it dry really well after showering before putting on clothes, going braless, and keeping it well ventilated during the day (how? I don't know). Good luck!
Came here to post something else and figured I'd follow up on this:

No one ever figured out why my breasts were so red, but they eventually went back to normal. *shrug* Just being pregnant I guess? I also poked around more on the web and saw that some other women have had this issue and it similarly went undiagnosed and untreated and eventually resolved on its own. Bodies are weird.

  • Does anyone know what is up with sharp, intense pains in the lower abdomen that come and go? I was lying in bed and felt these where the little dude usually is kicking me. I was rather worried.
I'm 25 weeks and have been having sharp pains off and on in my lower abdomen, too. Doesn't seem to correlate with kicks, but it is scary. Some are quite low, almost in my vagina behind my pubic bone, others seem like definite uterine pain. I keep drinking water and keep trying to rest, but it's pretty unsettling. My nurse practitioner says I should call in every time this happens, but when I do they keep telling me everything is fine so it makes me less inclined to report it.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

No to all three. It's more of a pins and needles feeling, and it's internal...

When I had my first baby, every time I let down with nursing, I would have a needle piercing feeling in my nipples. It lasted for 6 weeks. Someone suggested it was just my body adjusting to the feeling of let down. I hope it doesn't last that long for you. FWIW, I didnt have that feeling with either of my other two babies.

  • So for the last 48 hours I have been experiencing what I can only describe as crushing pain on my pelvis, particularly on the right side. At times this pain is so intense it makes it difficult to move my legs! Is anyone else experiencing this? It seems kinda early to be having this much down pressure. I am 28 weeks tomorrow. Any insight would be great! Thanks!
  • @Knottie9983816 letdown can feel like pins and needles, like @kielpinskim said, and you don't always actually see the milk when it happens (I rarely have, in over ten years of breastfeeding).
You mentioned specifically that it happens when it gets cold, so it might just be an extra sensitive pregnancy thing, which may go away when it warms up and you're less cold...
The only other thing that comes to mind is raynoud disease, but I think it's not very common to have in the nipples, more the fingers and toes. It's a vascular disorder, but quite treatable. Next time it happens, take a peek and see if your nips are blanched or bluish.
  • @mojomama6 Def bluish when it happens >.>
  • I totally googled what I think you're talking about. Knottie... Mine have been doing the exact same thing! The closest description that I could find was Raynaud's Syndrome. You might Google raynaud's and pregnancy together... I remember there being at least a few sites talking about it. Mine don't do it every time I get cold, but gah it's miserable when they do.
  • I'm tapped out on advice, @Knottie9983816,because this is something I've not paid much attention to, unfortunately. If memory serves, if you hit on the right treatment, things are peachy, so definitely bring it up with your doc sooner than later.
  • Okay, I need an answer to this one. I know boobs are supposed to start itching in third trimester and it's normal and all... but it drives me crazy and so I scratch at them sometimes. I noticed that I sort of break out when I scratch where it itches. Just tiny red marks, almost look like bumps but are not bumps. Tiny red dots that line wherever I scratch around my boobs. Is that normal? I'll talk to my doctor about it at my next visit but it's driving me crazy right now because the get itchy at least three times a day. Not sure if it's normal or if it's a new allergy I'm getting. But the red dots only appear around my boobs and not any place else, so I don't know.
  • @Bubbles3592 try using lotion when you itch - you can start a chronic itch/scratch issue that can create its own rash. Since that's the easiest thing to rule out, I'd start there. Also, if it's only your boobs that itch, it's unlikely that it's an allergy unless you're using a product specifically on your chest and nowhere else.

Any chance you just got a new bra with fresh dye etc that could be aggrivating them? I agree with @AmadorRose, it's unlikely an allergy unless its from a new bra or lotion that you're only putting on your breasts.

  • @Bubbles3592 It's fine. I'm guessing you are very very very fair skinned like me. They are just broken capillaries, similar to what some people might get in their faces from puking violently. They remedy themselves in a few days. That's assuming the dots are not elevated.

If you're describing an elevated dot, like a hive, then yes I agree with the previous responses about checking what you might be spreading to your skin - because it may be an allergic reaction. In that case make sure your hands are clean when your scratch, and your fingernails clipped, so you don't spread anything that may give you any kind of contact dermatitis.
  • @Missingchampagne I think you are correct about the broken capillaries. They are flat dots, only found after I scratch.
Still going crazy with this. The itchiness is no longer just on my boobs, but also baby bump. I switched to a fragrance-free lotion made with shea butter since I guess it is caused by stretching. It's just so hard not to scratch it.

The image, if it actually loads, is a close up of my baby bump. The redness is post-scratch. I just put lotion on it to try and stop scratching. Second time I've applied the new lotion in the past four hours so I assume that's an okay time frame. I plan to ask my doctor about it at my next appointment.

Try just using coconut oil. And rub your skin gently in lew of scratching.

Anyone else have these. I bought thigh high compression stockings.. I haven't put on anymore weight than my 1st... I'm thin , work out eat sort of healthy.. anyway, any advice? Did yours go away?! Boooo I feel so swollen down There

Started feeling extra pressure downstairs with number 1s and number 2s. suddenly I just have to go!!! It comes on quite out of the blue! Waking up at 5am wide awake. Then taking 3 hour naps in the afternoon. Breathless. Tired. Itchy everywhere. Dropping things. craving sugar. Ate a whole tub of Nutella in two days. Felt sick, drank two liters of water. Soft stools, gas, iron tablets, highlight of my day though was lying in bed with hubby watching my belly go up and down :-)
  • @vmsievert yes!!! I have the exact same thing!! No advice. This is my second baby but first time having this. From what I've read, they go away right after birth
