Re: Boys name, nickname Evan

  • I'm not a fan of Evander. I like Evan as a stand alone name. Evan Michael is nice.

  • I would Evan Michael it flows better anyhow

  • Just Evan.
  • Prefer just Evan.
  • Prefer Evan to Evander.
  • Prefer Evan as a standalone. To me they're not even pronounced the same so its not a natural nickname. The 'E-van' in Evander has two syllables, while 'Evan' alone is just one.
    Me: 32
    DH: 33
    Married: October 2015
    TTC #1: October 2015
    EDD #1: June/July 2017

Hmm, my brother is named Evan and it's definitely two syllables. Ev-an. Maybe there are regional pronunciation differences?

That said, I think Evan is a great name on its own. It doesn't need to be a nickname. I'm not crazy about Evander anyway, since I can only think of the boxer. Isn't he the one that got his ear bitten off by Mike Tyson? Not a great association, imo.

I'll have to definitely Google it, now. I just randomly came across it and it kind of struck me as different, but not wacky or "you-neek". If that's the case though, it's a no in my book. Lol

  • @Merinmac yes Evan is two syllables...she said E-van-Der versus Ev-an. It's literally pronounced differently and with emphasis in different parts of the name.
  • I like Evan by itself.

  • I think you could go either way. Personally i like Evander over Evan by itself.
  • Evan was on our short list for DS. I love it! Not a fan of Evander....
  • First thought was Holyfield. I love Evan on its own though.

  • All I can think of is Evander Holyfield. If you like Evan and plan to call him that, I think it is best as a standalone name.
