Prefer Evan to Evander.

Prefer Evan as a standalone. To me they're not even pronounced the same so its not a natural nickname. The 'E-van' in Evander has two syllables, while 'Evan' alone is just one.

Hmm, my brother is named Evan and it's definitely two syllables. Ev-an. Maybe there are regional pronunciation differences?

That said, I think Evan is a great name on its own. It doesn't need to be a nickname. I'm not crazy about Evander anyway, since I can only think of the boxer. Isn't he the one that got his ear bitten off by Mike Tyson? Not a great association, imo.

@Merinmac yes Evan is two syllables...she said E-van-Der versus Ev-an. It's literally pronounced differently and with emphasis in different parts of the name.
