  People do the NIPT test to screen for chromosomal disorders- not to find out the sex. Finding out the sex is an added bonus. I did first trimester screening not NIPT... but if I did do NIPT, I would be anxious to see if my baby has a chromosomal disorder.. Not to see what sex organs the baby will poses.

  I had the test done but it wasn't to find out the sex. It was to give me some peace of mind and make sure my baby was healthy. Finding out the sex was a perk though I hope you have a healthy baby!

  tests like these aren't ONLY to find out the sex of your baby. there is actual purpose to it, as PP's have mentioned.

  Maybe It's different in different places, but isn't that test done at 11-14 weeks? If so it's absolutely impossible to find out sex that early. The genitals haven't formed yet. Earliest to find out the sex is 18 weeks I believe. Don't be disappointed if they can't tell you.

  You're thinking of an NT scan. The NIPT is a dna test. It uses free cell fetal dna from a blood draw.

  I'm low risk for chromosomal anomalies so my doctor recommended against having it done. I would have loved the peace of mind that it gives but it wasn't worth paying out of pocket since insurance wouldn't cover it due to lack of medical necessity. I hope your baby comes back healthy.

  I've had a child pass from a rare genetic disease, I got the harmony test done and while I'm anxious to know the sex, I'm more anxious about genetic abnormalities.
