Coconut oil users

I bought this to use instead of lotion. I was told to use the cold press one so that's what I bought. I tried it on my hands, not on the baby yet and I'm finding it made my hands soft but they have like a slight film on them. Is this normal?? I've never used something instead of lotion but Damien had dry patches and I'm hoping to use something natural vs lotion all the time. Any suggestions or just practice with amounts?

Re: Coconut oil users

  • The coconut oil I'm using now does leave a slight film. But the one I had before did not at all! So I'm not sure if some are slightly different that cause that to happen or what. I normally order a gallon from Azure & it's great!

  • The unrefined I think always leaves a slight film. Mine does for sure. It's so much better than lotion!
  • Thanks ladies! I really like it on my hands already and Damien is already soft from it. I'm loving the smell!!!
  • Add it to his bath water, sparingly, a little will go a long way it cuts down on the film and keeps your skin hydrated. I use coconut oil for my own baths when my skin gets super dry. But use only about 1tsp for the baby's bath as I only use a couple tablespoons for my bath
  • It also works really well to remove eye makeup. We use coconut oil for a ton of stuff. That is what I've been using after baths on my little one too.
  • @meganraschke the bath is such a good idea!! We only do a bath once a week but we lotion, or oil now, nightly before swaddling. I'm definitely going to use it for my own bathes now!!

@cbolton19 good to know about the makeup. I don't wear any often but I don't own makeup remover lol
  • I use coconut oil for everything ! Teeth whitening, cooking, for my dog .. Everyone gets some around here lol I LOVE the bath idea never thought of that before ! Thanks @meganraschke :)
  • I put straight coconut oil on my belly while pregnant and got zero stretch marks there, but I've got them all over my thighs and butt where I didn't put it! Nice tip to put it in the bath!
  • Coconut oil with the help of Baby Mantra wash helped get rid of my girl's cradle cap SO fast! Obsessed with coconut oil---since having this baby, we are converted. I use it for cooking, lotion for myself and my little guy as well as my baby girl. Its amazing stuff.
  • A few days in and it definitely has been helping! Damien still has dry spots but he's now sucking on his hands so I know that's part of the reason. It's helped dryness behind his ears and on his eyelids! I love it!
