Pain under right rib

I'm 8w3d and last night woke up with a sharp pain under my right rib which was also then dull and achy and moving across my back. Have any of you had this? Does it sound like a gas bubble?

Re: Pain under right rib

  • I had crazy gas pain/bubbles for a few days/nights a few weeks ago (around 5 weeks) in the same exact place. They felt like cramps, so I was a bit worried (especially after extensive google research). They ended up subsiding. Doctor said it was from my body adjusting to the hormones, and eventually my body got used to it.

  • I had the same issue on the right side under the rib last week.  I am 9w1d (so I had it around 8w).  It went away after a few days.  I could only attribute it to my underwire.  I assumed not gas, because I thought most digestive stuff was on the left side.
  • It could be gas, but it could also be your gallbladder (or something else entirely). I mention gallbladder because of the location of the pain and because pregnant women are more at risk of developing gallstones. If it happens again (especially right upper qudrant pain, colicky pain, possibly radiating to your shoulder blade/back) and/or is associated w/ nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, general GI issues, I'd call your primary or your OB.  I'm a nurse, almost a nurse practitioner (I'm waiting to take my boards), so I have a little bit of knowledge about these matters ;)
  • Gallbladder? Did you eat a super fatty meal?
