Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Just trying to kick this cold. Since I have so much extra time on my hands while looking for another job, I've decided to make the most of it and get organized. I'm starting to meal plan, come up with a household cleaning schedule and putting together a "house notebook" that has all of the lists and schedules we need. I feel like the Energizer Bunny on steroids.

    Questions? None today

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? A little of both, but I'm slowly becoming more of an early bird. DH and I have always had to get up early anyway for work, so I'm an early bird by default. However, I can no longer stay up until the wee hours of the morning like I used to.

  • @mrsschmity - I hope you feel better soon...a cold with pregnancy sounds miserable.

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Weird dreams...had a breastfeeding dream last night where I was in a class learning how to do it and the baby was getting so frustrated with me.  All of my dreams have been dreams of a baby boy...I have no idea why.  We will find out in a week and one day if I'm right.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Same stuff..home remodel.

    Questions?

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Neither lately but I'm more of an early bird than a night owl usually.
  • How far along are you? 18 weeks (so excited getting close to half way)

Rant/Rave/Symptoms: Rant-I'm sick, but at least I was able to get a doctor appointment today.
Rave: Tomorrow is my next Obgyn appointment, and I will be able to schedule the annotomy scan. I'm happy to be able to get to see my lo again.

What are you doing to prepare for the baby?  I made a registry at BRU, and my cousin helped me pick useful items since as a FTM there is sensory overload when you walk into that store.  DH and some of our friends helped us move furniture at the house to start to get the room ready for the baby.

    Questions? Anyone finished the nursery?

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl?  I'm an early bird.  Which drive DH insane because as soon as I get up I'm ready to start the day, and it takes him forever to get moving in the morning.
  • How far along are you? 16w3d

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Thanking my MIL for giving me her cold. Blah. However, I did manage to get all the Christmas decor down and stowed away and everything unpacked from our trip. Go me!

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Found another box of DDs clothes to sift through.

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? I've become an early bird. Between the best gym time being at 5am and DD, I didn't have much choice. 11pm is my limit these days. And I'm usually cranky about being up that late.

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: I woke up this morning feeling super anxious because I haven't "really" felt baby yet (I know this is common in FTMs) and basically convinced myself that something was wrong and started preparing myself for the worst at my appointment this coming Friday. Then I got up and barfed for the first time in weeks -- so now I'm fine. Pregnancy is so dramatic, I swear.

What are you doing to prepare for the baby? I started an online, still hidden registry at Target for a few things we've mostly decided on.

    Questions? Nope.

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? I'm an early bird. I could go to bed at 4am and I'd still be up by 7. It's so annoying.

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Was called noticeable pregnant for the first time yesterday at the mall... was kind of happy, kind of offended... not sure why   Similar to @mkemommy, I am also having weird dreams.  Our a/s is in a week, and we will be finding out the gender.  Last night I dreamt that I accidentally opened up the envelop of what we were having (without my husband) to read it was a boy.  Then I got a second envelop that said it was a girl. They were from different doctors.  So I went back and saw both and said their information was conflicting.  One said it was a boy because they could see the dangle, the other said he knew it was a girl from a bone growth in my foot.  Hmmmm...  They couldn't come to a conclusion.  So I guess I still have to wait until Wednesday...  I keep going back on boy vs. girl too (what do I "feel" it is), so maybe that is why.

You know what?  I hate that question.  "What do you feel it is?  Boy or girl?"  I don't know.  And then if I share one over the other, and it turns out to be the other, am I a less of a parent because I don't have that bond with my baby yet?  OK.  Nice to get that vent off my chest  When people ask, I say girl today, but yesterday I thought boy (or vice versa).

What are you doing to prepare for baby? I have a hard time answering this question every day... nothing new I guess.

    Questions?

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Early bird.  I always have been.  My first job out of college had me up by 3am.  I don't like staying up late.  I would rather get up with the sun and drink a cup of coffee. One of my favorite weekend moments is waking up before my DS (rarely happens) and being able to turn on the morning news (local - before 7am), and sip on a HOT cup of good coffee.  I also love a good front porch in the summer to do the same thing.

    Rant/Rave/Symptoms?
RLP...I'm uncomfortable. And my nose is so stuffy & runny. I read this is a common symptom starting this week...it's so annoying.
Also, this is the tiredest Tuesday ever. Yes, that's going to be a word lol.

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Registered for a prenatal class (it's for a Saturday in April), & trying to get registered for a prenatal water yoga class. Not thrilled about the idea of being in a bathing suit, lol.

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Uh, neither, hahaha. I'd be so happy going to bed really early each night & getting up around 9 each morning. I guess if anything I'm more an early bird just because work requires me to be one.

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Happy to have GP appt today. I've got dermatitis on my face and it's so ugly and painful! I originally thought it was eczema and was using cortisone, then the GP told me that it's dermatitis and that cortisone makes it worse! At least that explains why it wasn't going away... So now I'm on another cream and it definitely made it worse before it started making it better. Hoping for some suggestions to speed up progress. I want to do weekly bump photos and maternity photos, and I want this to be gone. I'm being vain but IDGAF, lol.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Working on secret registries! Love Baby List.

Questions? Thoughts on single or double breast pumps? I can buy a single one cheap from a friend or I can register or buy a double one, that obviously seems more efficient. I can't decide between a cheap single or an expensive double!

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Normally I would say night owl but now I'm neither!

  • @mkemommy No, having a cold and being pregnant at the same time is not my idea of fun lol This is my second one and it came literally the week after I had the stomach flu. I've been having a lot of weird dreams too! They are freaking bizarre.

@Stephanier99 Hope you start feeling better soon. To answer your question - we haven't even started on baby's room yet. For the last 2 years the room has been used as storage, so next month I'm going to start clearing it out and getting it ready.

@HBamama2B I happen to like the decisions you made. YUM.

@hockeyfan42 Hope you can kick your cold soon too! I finally got all of our Christmas decor down yesterday too. Fist bump.

@ahernandez16 I'm a FTM as well, and I keep thinking that I'm starting to feel flutters but can never be sure. Doc says that one day I'll feel it and it will be obvious. I'm anxiously waiting for that day.

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? No MS today, yay! Holy smokes, I slept like a rock. Thank heavens. Been waking up from 3-5 most of the last several nights, and that got old. Also, got back to yoga yesterday--"reunited and it feels so gooooood!"

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Finished crochet baby hat #1 last night. Supposed to be for 6-12 months, but mine seems slightly larger. It'll fit baby at some point, haha!

    Questions? Not at the moment.

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Early bird, if by early you mean 7am ish. It's easier for me to get up early rather than stay up late.
  • @HBamama2B - I  <3 all of the things you bought.  I also love how you have seasoning salt in there with all the sunday stuff. Please tell me the latter didn't go on the sunday...lol?

@nicknshan - I hate that question too.  Everyone keeps asking me and I really don't know.  Other than the dreams, I have no clue.  It doesn't help that H is convinced the baby is a girl as is my family (no reason why) which really screws with my head.

@Kballew10 - What a GREAT birthday present!  I'm sorry about the "less carbs" edict.  I adore gluten free carbs (well any carbs but I have to stick with gluten free ones).  I'm worried the doctor will fail me at the glucose test though with the amount of carbs and sugar I'm eating of late.

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? We got back my Quad Screen results yesterday and everything was normal!!!!! I'm high risk due to MTHFR, so neural tube defects were a concern.  I'm SO relieved!  I was able to announce to my students yesterday too and they were so excited.  So happy everything is going well so far.

Rant- I still have a sinus infection, for about a month now.  I did antibiotics the first week and they didn't really get rid of it.  I've been trying home remedies and nothings really getting rid of it.  The sinus pressure last night was almost unbearable. My teeth and gums hurt so bad on the left side from it.  I don't know if I go back to the doctor and get more antibiotics. I hate them and the yeast infection I get afterwards from them, which I then need to treat with more medicine.  Anyone else in this boat or have any words of wisdom?  I really hate taking more antibiotics, but I fear at this point it might be my only choice :(

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
We started our registry this weekend on Amazon and myregistry.  We'll sync in from Buy Buy Baby and/or Target.  Shopped around at Buy Buy Baby and read the Baby Bargains book and have a good list of items we want and need.

    Questions?
See above about sinus infection.  Help! :)

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Night Owl, but I can't be with my job as a high school teacher. I have to be at work at 7AM everyday, up at 5:45Am everyday.  Bed time has been 8:30 at the latest since getting pregnant.
  • @Stephanier99: Haven't even started the nursery. Right now the focus is a mostly DIY kitchen reno, so that should be done in the next month or so (help!). After that, we'll turn our attention to the nursery! Need to clean out the closet in there, spackle, paint, clean the carpet, and decorate.

@NicknShan: I'm not a fan of the "what do you feel you're having" question either. When asked, I've said girl, but emphasized the caveat of "Of course I have nothing rational to base that on, so 50/50 shot. If you ask me tomorrow I'd probaby say boy." Just another of those odd questions with weird implications that have become commonplace to ask pregnant ladies, I guess.
  • @Kballew10: Hope you can find some satisfying alternative snack to carby things! GF options are pretty tasty these days, if you go that route.

    @arteduc8: That's great news! Congratulations!

@candicek15: Does your insurance offer a free pump? Might be worth checking into if you haven't already. Hmm, I'd say register for a double, that way someone(s) might gift you one so you'll have increased efficiency, or you can get it discounted via registry coupons.
  • @mrsschmity: Hope you feel better soon and good luck on the job hunt!

@stephanier99: Haven't even started the nursery yet! But definitely looking forward to it!

    @hockeyfan42: Hope you feel better!

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Rant: This feels like it's going to be the longest week ever. Rave: Enjoyed the train wreck that is The Bachelor. DH even watched with me! Also getting back into gaming (what else am I doing right now?) since I accidentally let it auto pay for 6 months. Really loving it actually (we play World of Warcraft). Symptoms: Sore/itchy nips/boobs (still waiting for them to grow!!), bits of nausea, tired (but def have more energy), random pulls/cramps/twinges in the lower abdomen. Heartburn seems to have tapered...for now.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Scheduled my A/S for 1/26! Love having appts for baby every few weeks. Something to look forward to. The hardest was waiting for that first appt! Other than that, printed out a registry checklist.

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Always been an early bird and have never been able to change it. Everyone in my immediate family are also early birds. DH is a complete night owl though. I am hoping he changes in time for baby, but maybe it will be a good thing?

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? I've been ranting for a week about my cold/sinus issues - no change there :( but sneezing/coughing & RLP is no joke... if I'm laying down & I start coughing, oh man... the pain!

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Today working... we have a big meeting today at work and depending on how it goes I *may* tell my boss that I'm expecting... or I may wait another week - so stressful!

    Questions?

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Definitely a night owl, always have been, I swear my circadian rhythm is backwards because I can stay up all night but the morning is the WORST for me... but not with this pregnancy. I fall asleep by 10pm every night and I'm waking up around 7am naturally... (with a bonus wake up around 3am for good measure) I think my body/mind are prepping me for babys arrival/lack of sleep.

  • How far along are you?
    16 weeks today

    Rant/Rave/Symptoms?
Symptoms - Stuffy nose, headache for days, despite chugging as much water as my body can handle, knee pain.
Rave - Definitely feeling baby move a little every day, which I have always found to be one of the sweetest/most emotional parts of pregnancy.

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Surfing Craigslist to see if I can score any good deals on a walker/rock n play or clothing. Also, buying clothes online like it's my job, trying to snag any good sales I see.

    Questions?
Anyone else have knee pain yet? I remember having it more so post-partum with my first, but I know the relaxin hormone (I think that is what it is called) makes all your joints wonky, so I'm guessing that is the cause. Or maybe I'm just old now...

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Definitely used to be a night owl. I could stay up all night drinking beer and binge watching Netflix. Even my family members knew there was no point in inviting me to events that started before 12 pm in the afternoon...
My how things have changed! Since having children, I can barely even sleep past 8 am, even if I am blessed with the opportunity (which is rare). To compensate, I go to bed much earlier - by 10 pm I am a grouch.

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Rant: I'm just learning that congestion is a thing and it sucks! I used to wake up maybe 1x or 2x a night to pee, but now I am now waking up 10x more often because my ear hurts, my sinuses are sore and my throat hurts--oh, and then my body decides that since I am up, I should pee anyway. But I have a rave! I just learned that (for me), potato chips help tremendously with my morning nausea. We had a bunch of stuff left over chips from Halloween in our basement and my husband said he read on the Internet that salt and vinegar chips help absorb stomach acid and he was actually right. It's not like a miracle drug, but it has helped me feel well enough to get dressed and the leave the house instead of hugging the toilet all day so giant win for my husband and Dr. Google. And I feel like I'm eating better the rest of the day because I am less nauseous and been able to reach for vegetables instead of carbs to abate it.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? See question below.

Questions? Can someone tell me if this is a good deal in their opinion? I saw someone on kijiji (I'm in Ontario and we don't really use Craigslist that often, but same thing really) selling an Uppababy stroller (2013) w/ frame, toddler seat, cup holder, rain cover & bug cover, w/ bassinet & jolly jumber rocking stand and Peg Perego car seat (manufacture date early 2013 -- so it's good until 2020, never been in an accident), w/ car seat adaptor for $700 CAD or $600 CAD without the carseat. All the other travel systems I've been looking at are within that range or more and don't come with all the extras. Apparently the bassinet is rated safe for overnight sleeping which is great. The pictures of all the stuff looks super clean and in great shape. The car seat isn't as new as I would prefer, but I think this might still be a deal even if we need to buy a new car seat for our second LO, depending on how far apart our kids are spaced. Thoughts?

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Generally an early bird, but a lazy early bird--I have always woken up pretty early but I do things super slowly and could easily go back to bed around 8:00 for a nap since I don't accomplish anything. Most people I know that get up super early are productive but I have never had the energy to workout super early in the morning or get a head start on work.
  • @HBamama2B: Thanks for the visual of what you bought.  I think I need to make a run to the store!

@candicek15: Ditto PP about checking your insurance and registering for the double pump.  You never know what may happen.  Double pumps are great and you can always use it as a single, when needed.

arteduc8: I feel you on the antibiotics.  Talk to the doctor.  Since you're pregnant, they'll probably use a mild one like amoxicillin.  It may be less likely to cause the yeast infection.  Either way, the best part will be that you'll be done with the sinus infection.  Also, taking a probiotic with the antibiotic may also help.  Talk to your doctor about what she thinks.

How far along are you?  17w3d

Rant/Rave/Symptoms?  I need to do better about my water intake.  It's so terrible.  First PG, I was a health nut.  This PG, I'm a walking billboard of what not to eat.

What are you doing to prepare for baby?  I finally embraced maternity clothes.  Now, the second look have started.

    Questions? Nope

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Early bird.  My brain shuts off at 6:30.  My body gets itself ready for bed at 10 pm.  If I'm going out, caffeine is a necessity.

  • @MsBeachNJ Good luck if you decide to tell your boss today!

@arteduc8 Congrats on the good screening results! Always a relief.

@mrsschmity I'm sorry you've been sick--I saw you hadn't been around lately and was a bit concerned.

@candicek15 I am a FTM but I have three or four friends that have said if you make one pregnancy-related splurge, it should be a double breast pump. So I'm taking that advice, personally. Keep your eye out on deals -- I've seen some really high rated pumps on amazon for under $200 CAD and I imagine they will eventually go on sale.
  • @crdo  I'm not sure about insurance stuff. I have coverage from work for things like prescriptions and massage, etc. but I'm Canadian so I'm not sure if they cover pumps like they do in the states. I'll have to look into it. Also, it's really funny that you said your hat turned out bigger, mine are always too small! This is how I learned about the importance of gauge, which I used to always ignore, haha.

@DeePaddy24  I am with you on Tiredest Tuesday. I have NOT been sleeping well. I used to sleep like a rock and now I wake up several times a night. So annoying!

@mrsschmity  I also have a cold. I swear everyone in my office can hear me sneezing and blowing my nose ivery 45 seconds. I'm like the gross coworker that everyone avoids today. :(

@mkemommy  I also feel that I'll fail the glucose test. When I had MS all I could stomach was junk food, which included a lot of chocolate. Too bad lots of that is GF!

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? My back is still hurting but other than that no symptoms. It's my first day back to work and my boss is being a real b****. I feel super emotional about it and am wondering if crying is going to be my newest symptom. Just trying to make it through the day at this point

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Trying to register

Questions? None unless you have suggestions on back pain relief!!

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? I've always been a night owl but I have to get up at 5:30 for work so that forces me to be a early bird!

Rant/Rave/Symptoms?  Our furnace started making an awfully annoying buzzing noise this morning . It's not coming from the unit itself, but somewhere in the ducts north of the unit.  It's driving me INSANE!

What are you doing to prepare for baby?  Buying some clothes here and there.

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl?  Normally I'm an early bird.  But since about 4 weeks ago I've begun suffering from insomnia, and I'm awake laaaaaate into the night. :(

  • @catherinekate  I have my eye on one double pump from Amazon.com. I'm not too far from the border so sometimes if the price difference is enough I'll order it and ship it to a UPS store in the states and just go pick it up. I think it's probably what I'll do if my insurance doesn't cover anything.

That does sound like a good price for all that stuff. The only thing I would caution you on is the carseat. It could be totally fine, but I have heard people talk about how you are not supposed to buy/sell them used at all. I would probably take one from a friend or family member, but otherwise you can't guarantee that it hasn't been in an accident and they're just not telling you. I know the chances are slim but the guilt is big, lol. My BIL is a doctor in the ER at a children's hospital and he got a used car seat. Someone at work found out and shamed him so much (read: if your child ever died you'd never forgive yourself!) that he went out and bought another one new. I would probably price out what they would all be new and go from there. You might be able to negotiate them down a bit too.

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? On and off pelvic achiness but the exhaustion seems to be easing some. I've had the energy and motivation to clean and actually do things around the house in the past few days which is freaking awesome. I keep catching myself rubbing my little pittance of a bump unconsciously too.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Cleaning out the house and finishing emptying what will be the baby's room.

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Night owl most definitely. I am a bear to get out of bed in the morning if I don't have to be up. I try to go to bed early but between me and DH being night owls, going up to bed at 10 somehow turns into actually trying to fall asleep around midnight.

    Rant/Rave/Symptoms?
Both DH and I have been sick the last week and a half or so, and now both of us are feeling much much better. So happy to not be sick anymore!!

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
MIL is flying out in February for a week to help with the nursery. Some new paint, buying furniture and some accessories... :) we have an appointment today with our OB, routine appointment, and the A/S next Monday :)

    Questions?
Anyone else suffering from extreme back pain in the middle of the night? Like, it wakes you up? :(

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Hahahahah!! Neither. I go to be fairly early (9:30) and don't roll out of bed till the last minute (9:15) haha. I'm just lazy, tired and too comfy in all my layers of blankets to get up!

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? No symptoms really. My rant is that DH is back on nights , boooo! I hate sleeping alone. My rave is my next appointment is tomorrow so I will get to hear baby's heart! I will also get to meet my midwife :)

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
We recently bought a rock n' play, a pack n' play, and received a baby monitor, forehead thermometer, and some clothes for baby. We are going to order the crib when we get DH's overtime christmas check.

    Questions?
I'm worried I haven't really put on any weight (not due to MS, I didn't have it). Anyone else?

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Neither. I typically am sleeping by 9:30 every night, including weekends (I know, lame) and I sleep in every chance I get (until 9ish if my early bird husband doesn't wake me). I can sleep over 12 hours straight, no problem (other than 3am insomnia..). Come June: goodbye sleep!

@sdLindenberg my back usually only hurts in the middle of the night. I can't get comfortable at night. But I wouldn't say mine wakes me up, I just notice it when I wake up.

Also, your response to early bird/night owl is so me!!!

@SMLmom my baby feels super low too. I was expecting a stomach baby bump but really have more of a "crotch bumb" right above my pubic bone. My OB told me I have a low pubic bone- not sure if that has anything to do with it. Baby doesn't seem to be moving up yet, but it's early.

I did have MS, but not to the point where I couldn't eat. If your midwife tomorrow isn't concerned, I wouldn't be either. I'm sure we'll all start gaining soon now that our babies are growing so much!
  • @samsonator I'm 15+4 and haven't gained a single ounce despite eating whenever I'm hungry. Personally, I feel like I've been eating a lot but DH (and my mom when I was visiting) said I haven't been so maybe I'm not...I'm actually 10 lbs down from my pre-pregnancy weight because of morning sickness and, at least thus far, my doctor hasn't said anything. That said, I have an appointment on Thursday so I'll be asking them then if my lack of gaining is something to be concerned with.

  • How far along are you?   18+6! Appt and A/S tomorrow and we're hoping to find out gender :)

Rant/Rave/Symptoms?  Uh.....I'm hoping the morning sickness is gone, but I haven't not (double negatives- ugh) taken my Unisom in a couple weeks, so I may try again on Friday to see if it's FINALLY gone.

What are you doing to prepare for baby?  Not much yet. We scored on a swing and crib/changing table combo, but other than that, we're waiting until we find out the sex tomorrow, and then it's on like Donkey Kong. Did I just age myself?!

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? I used to be a night owl, but since having DD 8 years ago, I'm totally a morning person.

  • How far along are you? 16w

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? Energy is finally coming back and food is starting to taste good again - I was able to eat a whole salad yesterday without gagging!! Today I had an appointment with my midwife and was able to hear baby's heartbeat

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Absolutely nothing. Can't get myself motivated. Currently trying to declutter and find room for all DD's Christmas presents... Some old toys may go missing.

    Questions? None

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Early bird. I wake up before my 2.5 year old almost every day, and the other night I went to sleep around 8 (okay, so it was 7:30... Don't judge)
  • How far along are you?16w1d

Rant/Rave/Symptoms? I gave my 5 month notice at work today wooooo! Then they asked if I would go into the per diem pool if they needed me, I'm such a sucker I said yes. My rant is that when I picked up DD this morning to put her in her carseat I think I pulled something.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Putting my notice in at work!

    Questions?

GTKY: Are you an early bird or a night owl? neither. I like to go to bed early and wake up late, but if I had to choose probably night owl.
  • @Love4Labs326 do you mind me asking why you're afraid to tell them? I think it's absolutely amazing that you are adopting and I hope your family is so happy for you! I would announce it just like you would if you were physically carrying the baby. We made a slideshow, some people do a cute picture or something like that. Some of my aunts and uncles and my mom were adopted so in our family we are always happy for a new little one no matter how they come into the family :) I would love to adopt some day once I'm done with school and we are more financially stable (not that we can't take care of this baby but I mean before we add anymore kids in anyway)
