I was 7 weeks when we told our immediate families on Christmas, and gave them to go-ahead to tell our extended families. And we've been gradually telling our close friends since just before Christmas. We won't be putting anything on social media until sometime after the first trimester is over.
I had wanted just our immediate families to know until after the first trimester, but I knew nobody was going to be able to keep it a secret and then I'd get upset. So I saved myself that frustration and just let it go and I'm glad I did.
I'm 5 weeks 4 days (based on LMP), and my husband and I aren't sure when to tell. We have our first US this week, so we're definitely waiting until after that to tell anyone (other than my OB).
We would both like to tell our parents, but neither of us thinks our mothers can keep it a secret. So, telling our parents would basically be telling everyone, which neither of us wants to do until the second trimester. It's definitely a tough decision!
Nothing on social media till after the baby gets here.
^^ This. I'm 10 weeks and we've told family and close friends. I don't mind telling people early, but only those close. Those that would be there for me if anything were to happen.
ETA: I can't hide my pregnancies. I show right away because I have such a short torso. There is no way I could hide it until the second trimester.
I made gingerbread man and woman cookies with a tiny gingerbread stamped on the womans belly and sent them to all my closest girlfriends before first ultrasound at week 10. I knew the risks but it brought me so much joy to do it that way. Then after seeing the baby move and the heartbeat we told everyone else. If you really would be happy sharing it with your favorite people (who would support you even if it miscarried) then do it! Think of how happy they would be to be told. Congrats!
