Thank you for inspiring a rant tonight with my fiancé... I have a lot of homeschool friends from highschool that are anti vaxxers, and my opinions about vaccines have drastically changed after joining this board. I watched an episode of Call the Midwife a few days ago where one of the children developed Polio and I lost it. How can people look at a desease like that and feel Autism is worse? Now we're choosing to not get Hep B and chicken pox vaccines, but looking at measles, mumps (which my sister had about two years ago from a child who'd never been vaccinated, and her immune system sucking) rubella, and flu, how can you possibly look at the potential for what your child, your BABY, could go through from not being vaccinated? I just can't even.

I have a BS in Psychology, and that study is the example used in 101 psychology classes of what NOT to do in a research study. The guy did the study for ulterior motives (to promote selling his OWN version of a vaccine), he fabricated evidence, lied about it, and then pushed to have it submitted into a journal. It was retracted rather quickly.

    !@!@??!!!
all I have wanted to eat for three weeks is sugar and carbs. Luckily, I do exercise. Baby Charlotte: I swear mommy is trying to be healthy for you!!!
  • Ugh, DH and I are on our way home to Sweden now. It's a 6 hour bus ride, we've been driving for an hour and I already feel like crap. I'm so nauseous and I want to throw up :(

I could seriously punch DH right now. I'm reading the Bradley Method textbook, as I want a drug-free birth this time, and I'm completely fascinated by all the mechanics of how our bodies are wired and designed to birth a baby. I read him a quote that stated how the woman who fights labor by tensing at contractions actually makes the contractions longer because they have to work harder, and then I said "So you're going to read this after me, right?" He shrugged his shoulders and goes "sounds scary, anyway, we've done this before". Uh, yeah, with an epidural, pitocin, me laying on my back for hours on end, DDs heart rate dropping, me needing oxygen for a time...KIIIIINDA don't want that this time around. He just assumes those things don't matter since everything with DD turned out just fine. Just read the dang book!!! This way is better if you could just support how I want to do it and not just assume I can without your help!!! :s

  • @imrachellea I'm struggling to convince DH to take this seriously and watch the online birth courses with me. His argument: "women have been giving birth for thousands of years, we don't need to obsess over this". Excuse me, but do you have any idea how many things could go wrong!?! Does it really hurt to be prepared? Ughhh. He went on to "I already know all this". Oh really? Please tell me how long contractions last and when we should call the hospital. His reply: when the contraction lasts more than 30 minutes. What!???

On a side note, is the book good? Been considering picking up some books on natural birth.

  • @elasticheart13 OMG 30 minute contractions?! Dear...Lord!!! Also, have you reminded him that the rate of infant and maternal deaths has drastically been reduced over the thousands of years we've been birthing babies, thanks to medical advances and learning about the process? Men...sigh.

The book is awesome. Even just reading about how the body progresses in labor and birth is awesome. It explains exactly what contractions are doing, which is working out like a muscle should, which I love since I love my CrossFit and know my body is capable of things I don't "think" it is. It's the scientific explanation of how the female body changes during that time, we are AH-mazing. I also learned that the most painful part are the final contractions before actually delivery because, did you know, that as the baby emerges, and everything stretches, the nerves are stretched too actually ELIMINATING the ability to feel that pain? That was news to me!! So the "ring of fire" you hear about when baby first starts actually coming out is real, but then our body has a natural pain reliever. Even though I've "done this before" as DH pointed out, I can still learn! That knowledge is encouragement if I can get to that point without meds, I can do it!

Also...my DH is a soccer coach. It kind of hurts my feelings that he doesn't want to learn more to help and coach me through but he'll study soccer strategies all night long :( I feel like if I explain it that way he may see my point...

  • DH hasn't done any reading, and I don't expect him to. We're the type of couple that one does the research and presents it to the other person and then decide on a plan of attack. We're planning on doing what we did last time for L&D. Depending on if I need to be induced again, I'm hoping for a completely med-free labor.

Are you in Oregon as well?
  • @imrachellea and @elasticheart13 that sounds incredibly annoying. I'm guessing DH will be similar to your husbands, as he doesn't generally read things that aren't graphic novels (it's endearing...kind of). He will probably tell me I'm worried about nothing, etc etc, but hopefully he'll hear me out. If not, I'll just keep talking about it until I wear him down ;)
  • @imrachellea it's definitely encouraging to read what our bodies are capable of. This pregnancy was a huge eye opener to all the things the female body goes through and endures. He just thinks I spend too much time thinking about it, which is kinda normal considering the fact that I'm growing an actual human being inside of me with various symptoms reminding me of this all the time. Also me going to L&D twice the past two days were also an eye opener for him to all the things that could happen during this pregnancy. Hopefully I'll get through to him.

@AmadorRose the weird thing is DH loves reading and science and he's generally a geek like me, but he finds labor very boring (probably because it's not happening to his own body). He agreed to watching the videoes with me when he saw how much it meant to me. I just can't believe we actually have to convince our husbands of this stuff. :/

  • fbanke42: Unfortunately not. It was just icy when I got up. I slept late though; DH said it looked like there was a very light layer of slow earlier in the morning but I think the Portland area got more. I would love to see some snow this year!
  • @elasticheart13 Every day convinces me more and more that I can tell DH about how pregnancy is making me feel, how its different than with DD, how uncomfortable I'm getting, how nervous I am for L&D this time around still, and he will simply NEVER get it. I just don't think it's possible for men to really "get" it since they never go through it. While that is IMMENSELY frustrating, it's all the more reason that I want him to read and prepare (yes, even though we've done it before) as much as he is capable of...just like every pregnancy is different for me, every labor is different for us BOTH, including things I want to avoid happening from last time.

  • @imrachellea I have the opposite issue with DH - he assumes that because it's my body, I should do whatever I think is best. Provided I tell him, he's just going to go along with it; sounds great in theory but it's incredibly frustrating. My worry is that I'll get so worked up that I won't remember anything I read, and he'll just hover, increasing my anxiety. He's so laid-back that it actually increases my anxiety.
  • DH is playing COD right now and yells at me from the other room to ask for a favor. I yell back "Yeah hold on babe, I'm catching up wit mah girls on A16"

He actually pauses his game and comes into the rooms and says "who the eff is A16" :D
    I Love TB

You caught the unicorn. DH might give me an "ah, ok," but definitely wouldn't pause his beloved Fallout 4. I don't know what I'm going to do when he beats it, as his side of about 70% of our conversations involves some excuse about why he can't do something because he needs to go save the commonwealth.

DH doesn't pause, but finds a safe place and leaves his avatar there in Fallout 4. He's kind of had to master that with a demanding toddler running around. He'll stop if I'm talking to him, I need something, or he's in charge of DS1. I have a love/hate relationship with how DH treats me while pregnant... I'm his little pregnant queen who isn't allowed to do ANYTHING because I'm pregnant and he can do things for me. The only thing I'm allowed to do is take care of DS1.

He's also in the "it's your body, do what you feel is right" camp. The only thing we debated about was anything for DS1. In the end, he took my side for everything. We haven't talked about what we want to do with DS2 yet, but I'm hoping we agree to do everything the same.

  • @fbanke42 DH makes comments about me not lifting/bending/etc but knows better than to actually stop me. MIL, on the other hand, yelled at me for carrying a bag of yarn and was nearly stabbed. He has mastered gaming with children; he simply gives them a controller that's off and let's them think they're playing along.
  • In other news, I've been watching parks and recreation for the last four days and I love Ron Swanson.

@AmadorRose our 13 y/o has his alarm titled "RON FREAKING SWANSON" to wake him up everyday lol

This is DH's master plan so he can play during the day. Right now he only plays after DD1 is in bed because he knows with all that needs to be done in the nursery I would lose it.

I have also been binge watching parks and rec most of the long weekend. Why did I think people were lying about it being a good show?

  • Thanks guys, now DH and I are going to start binge watching Parks and Rex after watching a few videoes on YouTube.

  • I finished the series too fast...is there a word for coming down from a Netflix binge? :'(
  • @AmadorRose get a new show to binge on! :) We're currently watching "Making a Murderer"
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @AK118 I'm nervous to start it because I've heard such good things...and I know it has to end eventually!
  • I noticed about a week ago the my belly button is getting VERY shallow...today, I noticed that the inside is very dark. I'm confused as to how the part of my body that gets the least amount of sun is the darkest in color. The body is so strange.
  • @AmadorRose Weird, right? I've never stopped being weirded out by my navel going completely flat, but if you think about it as being a scar rather than just indented skin, the weird color stops seeming so strange, at least to me.
  • Mine is doing the opposite of my last pregnancy. This time it's going flat and incredibly shallow. Last time it was just this cave that puckered and looked pointy under clothes.

Good point. I've also developed my first stretch marks ever - on my boobs, which have only grown one cup size. My ribcage has widened significantly and my belly is obviously much larger than ever before, but it's my boobs that have stretch marks. At least I can cover them in a bikini ;)
Every time I look at myself I find something new and weird.
  • @AmadorRose It's 10 episodes, each one is approximately an hour. Excellent "quick" binge :-p We started yesterday and are on #6

  • @AK118 @AmadorRose We started and finished Making a Murderer within the same week. SO good. When it was over (and NOT before) I did so much googling on the case. Several things were omitted in the series, obviously, just makes you do a lot of thinking!
